Where can I watch the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special

Answered By: Jesus Hernandez Date: created: Oct 12 2023

Doctor Who’s 60th Anniversary Specials Will Stream on Disney+ in November – As mentioned, the recent report from the BBC confirms that Doctor Who will be arriving on Disney+ in November, with the release of the three 60th anniversary specials: “The Star Beast,” “Wild Blue Yonder” and “The Giggle.” The report confirms that each of the specials will be an hour long.

  • Interestingly, the report also refers to the specials as part of Doctor Who ‘s 14th season, possibly suggesting that the anniversary specials and Christmas special will be more closely connected to the upcoming Season 14 than fans may have thought.
  • The report previously stated that Season 14 would begin in the Spring of 2024, though the mention of its release date has since been removed.

Previously, Doctor Who has aired on BBC America in the US. The move to Disney+ will mark the first time American audiences – and audiences in many other territories – will have the option to watch new episodes of Doctor Who at roughly the same time they are aired in the UK.

  1. While BBC America was already broadcasting new episodes the same day they were shown in the UK, time differences meant UK audiences got to see the episodes five to eight hours before US audiences.
  2. Now, viewers around the world can watch Doctor Who ‘s 60th anniversary specials in unison.
  3. By foregoing a traditional release in favor of going directly to streaming on Disney+, Doctor Who can be made available to global audiences at the same time as it airs on BBC One in the UK.

With Disney’s involvement helping transform Doctor Who into the global franchise it has always had the potential to be, a simultaneous or near-simultaneous international release can help bring the fanbase together in a shared global viewing experience.

Is Doctor Who no longer on Netflix?

Doctor Who – Picture: BBC Doctor Who was removed from Netflix in early 2016 with it making its way over exclusively to Amazon Prime in the US but that deal is now up but sadly, it doesn’t look like Netflix is going to see it return. Here’s where it’s headed.

Just a recap as to what happened for those who didn’t follow or have a Netflix account in previous years and didn’t know that the Doctor was on Netflix at one point. Doctor Who Classic and the modern Doctor Who were both available on Netflix and received yearly updates (something most regions still do).

Sadly, the BBC content came up for renewal in the early stages of 2016. It was then announced that Doctor Who would be leaving the service in favor of an exclusive deal struck with Amazon Prime, The deal covered both Classic Doctor Who and the brand new Doctor Who.

  1. Doctor Who is a BBC show produced and aired first in the United Kingdom.
  2. The series covers a timelord who uses his TARDIS to travel both space and time.
  3. It’s generated hundreds of in-depth stories and created many memorable villains such as the Cybermen and Daleks.
  4. The twelfth season is about to begin with an all-new logo, theme song and as you’ve probably heard, the first female Doctor.

On August 1st, 2019 it was announced that HBO Max will be carrying the show, Netflix has seen other BBC shows leave since Doctor Who, many of which do also seem earmarked for HBO Max.

What date is Doctor Who 60th anniversary?

This autumn certainly promises to be an exciting one for Doctor Who fans, particularly if your favourite era was David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor running around with the opinionated Donna Noble (Catherine Tate). They’re both back — albeit with Tennant this time as the 14th Doctor.

Check out the new trailer. From the evidence of this, it’s clear that the budget boost from the Beeb’s deal with Disney+ means a significant upgrade in what returning showrunner Russell T. Davies can achieve, particularly when it comes to action and effects. As for the new villain, played by Neil Patrick Harris, it turns out he’s not as new as we thought, since he’s a version of the Toymaker, all-powerful enemy last seen in 1966.

But knowing Davies, we can also expect plenty of witty dialogue and a few shocks along the way. As the man himself is quoted as saying, this “is just the start, as the fever starts to burn. We’re heading for a November full of Doctor Who surprises, for fans and new viewers alike.
