Who is the 14th Doctor 2023

As the weeks go by, excitement for the upcoming Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials continues to build, with new cast members, audio specials and rumours continuing to swirl. One of the major things that Whovians are the most excited for is the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate,

Tennant reprises his role, but as the new incarnation as the Fourteenth Doctor, while Tate returns as loveable companion Donna Noble. Well, now we finally have another first look at Tennant as the Doctor in a picture shared from Radio Times magazine ‘s 60th anniversary special. The new image (above) shows Tennant well and truly back in action as the Doctor, looking as though he’s simultaneously holding up oncoming traffic and being shocked at a mysterious stranger in front of him.

Ahead of Tennant’s return, the actor has teased that the Doctor and Donna are “not necessarily exactly the same versions of themselves as they were”. Is the new Doctor Who a girl?

Casting a woman – Jodie Whittaker portrays the Thirteenth Doctor. The concept of a female Doctor was first mentioned in 1981, when Tom Baker suggested his successor might be female, after announcing the end of his tenure as the Fourth Doctor, Producer, John Nathan-Turner, later discussed the possibility of casting a woman as the Sixth Doctor to replace the departing Peter Davison ‘s Fifth Doctor, claiming it was feasible, but not something he was considering at the moment.

The first on-screen cross-gender regeneration was shown in the 2015 episode, ” Hell Bent “, in which a white male Gallifreyan general ( Ken Bones ) regenerates into a black woman ( T’Nia Miller ), who states that her previous incarnation was the only time she had been a man.

1. The most notable Time Lord to have appeared in both male and female forms prior to Whittaker’s casting is the Doctor’s nemesis, the Master, portrayed from 2014 to 2017 by Scottish actress, Michelle Gomez,
2. This version of the character was known as Missy, short for “Mistress”.

The tenth series finale, ” World Enough and Time ” / ” The Doctor Falls “, addresses cross-gender regeneration several times; the Doctor tells his companion Bill Potts ( Pearl Mackie ) that Missy was “his first man-crush”, and adds that he is only “fairly sure” he himself was male at the time, although the remark may have been flippant.

Two years prior to the announcement of Whittaker’s casting, fans and scholars discussed the possibility of a female Doctor and analysed the benefits of such a regeneration.

(BBC Studios) Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa was announced as the next Doctor ahead of the television BAFTA awards on 8 May, 2022. While it was presumed he would succeed Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor, her final episode The Power Of The Doctor ended with a surprise regeneration into David Tennant, making Gatwa the Fifteenth Doctor.

Above we can see a 1960’s inspired sneak peek at Gatwa’s Doctor and Millie Gibson’s companion, Ruby Sunday., Davies described Gatwa’s first script readthrough in January 2023: “He’s so unbelievably stunning. I can’t wait for you to see him. He just lifts your hair off your head. He’s beautiful. Absolutely beautiful, in every sense.

So, very excited.” Gibson was revealed as the Doctor’s new companion Ruby Sunday during the BBC Children In Need telethon on 18 November, 2022. Gibson is best known for her award-winning role in ITV’s Coronation Street, in which she played tearaway teen Kelly Neelan.

On 7 June it was confirmed that Bonnie Langford would be returning to the franchise as Melanie Bush, a former companion of the Sixth and Seventh Doctors played by Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy respectively. Langford will appear in Gatwa’s first season as the Doctor, though it has not yet been revealed in what capacity she will be returning.

“And this isn’t just a cameo, Bonnie is right in the thick of the action, battling monsters and chaos and cliffhangers, right at the Doctor’s side, just like the old days.” In mid-August, that Still So Awkward star Billy Brayshaw and Hollyoaks actor Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy will also join the show.

“In the 2024 series, it’s a delight to open the studio doors to a former star of Holloaks with Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy,” said producer Phil Collinson. “His character in the ‘Oaks, Jesse, died of alcohol poisoning on his wedding day, so let’s hope he has a more peaceful time in the Whoniverse.

The BBC has confirmed that Doctors will return to TV screens from Monday 4th September 2023 – after more than two months off air. The daytime soap will once again air new episodes in its regular 1:45pm slot on Mondays to Thursdays, with a brief synopsis for the first episode teasing a nasty surprise for Zara (Elisabeth Dermot Walsh).

Millie Gibson is set to star as the new companion on Doctor Who, but is she qualified and what does her casting indicate about the new series? BBC 2023 marks the 60th Anniversary of Doctor Who, and it is expected to be a big celebration for the popular British television series. Not only is fan favorite David Tennant returning to the franchise for a series of specials, but Ncuti Gatwa has been cast as the Fifteenth Doctor, the first black actor to play the iconic hero.

While little is known about the new Doctor, the BBC did announce that Millie Gibson has been cast as Ruby Sunday, the Doctor’s new companion. Much attention has been paid to Tennant’s return and Gatwa’s casting, but Gibson is an exciting choice for the franchise. The Fourteenth Doctor is the current incarnation of the Doctor, the protagonist of the BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who, He is portrayed by Scottish actor David Tennant, who previously portrayed the Tenth Doctor and was last seen in the programme in that role in 2013.

Within the series’ narrative, the Doctor is a millennia-old, alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, with somewhat unknown origins, who travels in time and space in the TARDIS, frequently with companions, At the end of each incarnation’s life, the Doctor regenerates ; as a result, the physical appearance and aspects of the personality of the Doctor changes.

Ncuti Gatwa had previously been announced as Jodie Whittaker ‘s successor as the programme’s lead, and many reports stated he would play the Fourteenth Doctor and that Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor would regenerate into an incarnation portrayed by Gatwa.

In 2020, Jo Martin made a guest appearance as a previously unknown version of the Doctor hiding on Earth disguised as a human tour guide. Russell T Davies will return in the next series of Doctor Who as showrunner, after he initially helmed the 21st-century revival of the show from 2005 to 2009.

In a statement on the official Doctor Who website, Ncuti said: “There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling. A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared. This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care.

I will endeavour my upmost to do the same. Russell T Davies is almost as iconic as the Doctor himself and being able to work with him is a dream come true. His writing is dynamic, exciting, incredibly intelligent and fizzing with danger.” Davies said: “The future is here and it’s Ncuti! Sometimes talent walks through the door and it’s so bright and bold and brilliant, I just stand back in awe and thank my lucky stars.

Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor and owned those Tardis keys in seconds. It’s an honour to work with him, and a hoot, I can’t wait to get started.” Whittaker’s Doctor will be seen in one more episode, expected to air in autumn this year to coincide with the centenary of the BBC.

She was the first woman to play the role on an ongoing basis.
