The Fifteenth Doctor will be the next incarnation of the Doctor, the protagonist of the BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who, He is set to be portrayed by Rwandan-Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa, Gatwa will become the first black actor and the fourth Scottish actor to lead the series.
- Within the series’ narrative, the Doctor is a millennia-old, alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, with somewhat unknown origins, who travels in time and space in their TARDIS, frequently with companions,
- At the end of life, the Doctor regenerates ; as a result, the physical appearance and personality of the Doctor changes.
Gatwa had previously been announced as Jodie Whittaker ‘s successor as the programme’s lead, and many reports stated he would play the Fourteenth Doctor and that Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor would regenerate into an incarnation portrayed by Gatwa. Upon Whittaker’s final appearance as the character, she instead regenerated into a form seemingly similar to the Tenth Doctor,

Who is going to be the 16th doctor
Who is the new Doctor Who? – On May 8, 2022, that Ncuti Gatwa will play the Doctor in the in 2023. This makes him the 14th actor to play the role as a regular on the series and the 16th Doctor overall. (John Hurt and Jo Martin have played other “secret” versions of the Doctor.) Like Peter Capaldi, Gatwa is Scottish but born in Rwanda.

Doctor Who has been known for attracting good guest stars in the past, but the return of Russell T. Davies as showrunner and the big budget boost via investment from Disney+ (which will carry the series outside the UK starting this year), it’s taking another leap.
Jonathan Groff, known for stage and screen work including Glee, Frozen and Mindhunter, is on to play a mystery role. He’ll first show up during Ncuti Gatwa ‘s initial run as the 15th incarnation of the Doctor (following the special episodes featuring the return of David Tennant, this time as the 14th Doc).
The Beeb isn’t saying exactly how he fits in, only that he “hops aboard the TARDIS” pointing to going travelling with the Doctor and Ruby (played by Millie Gibson). Says Groff: “I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role!” Davies also seems excited: “This is an incredible coup, and a great honour, to get such a huge star striding on to our set.
