Can my 13 year old watch Love Actually?

Ideas to discuss with your children – Love Actually is a British comedy with a stellar cast. There is some loose connection between the 8 couples but otherwise the film is a mish-mash of various stories. They are not all happy stories, including subjects such as unrequited love, infidelity and death of a loved one.

Due to the adult content of the movie and the nudity and frequent coarse language, the film isn’t suitable for children aged under 15 years and we recommend parental guidance for children aged 15 years. The main message from Love Actually is that love transcends all. Values in Love Actually that you could reinforce with your children include listening to your children and respecting their opinions.

Love Actually could give you the chance with talk with your children about how lust and love are different but are often confused as the same thing. And that while sex is an important element of a loving relationship, it isn’t the only thing that’s important.

Is 13 year old thirteen appropriate?

Parents Need to Know – Parents need to know that this movie’s R rating comes from frank and explicit – but thoughtful – treatment of the subject matter – how peer pressure can lure kids away from their moorings and their families. Characters constantly use very strong language. Teenagers engage in every possible self-destructive behavior – they smoke, take drugs, steal, lie, and pierce their tongues and belly buttons. They have sex that is so casual it is almost anonymous. There is also adult substance abuse and every one acts out. There are very tense family confrontations. This is a good example of how the MPAA rating system fails, because there are stupid comedies that deal with the same issues as this movie that are rated PG-13. This movie -if your teen can handle very mature subject matter – deals more intelligently and forthrightly with the consequences of the behavior it depicts than some PG-13 offerings. New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association (NAIBA) Book of the Year, 2009; ABA Indies Choice Book Awards, 2010

  • At 17, Mia is a gifted cellist who has a good shot at attending Julliard.
  • She, her former punk-rocker parents and her 7-year-old brother, Teddy, form a tight-knit, happy family.
  • But when they take an impromptu trip to visit friends one snowy morning, an oncoming truck hits their car.
  • Mia finds herself in a state somewhere between life and death.

From outside of her injured body, she witnesses the aftermath of the crash and the events in the hospital. Her parents die instantly. Teddy makes it to the hospital but doesn’t survive. Between telling readers what she’s seeing, Mia shares detailed anecdotes about her family and recounts her love story with a guitar player named Adam.

She watches her real self, in a coma, and overhears a nurse say that it is Mia’s decision whether she lives or dies. Mia ponders which she will choose. Grandparents sit at her bedside. Relatives and family friends hold a vigil in the waiting room. Mia’s best friend, Kim, and Adam must sneak in to see her since nonfamily members aren’t initially allowed in her room.

When Adam is finally able to sit with Mia, he begs her to stay. The power of his love makes her decide to live and fight through the physical and emotional pain she knows will follow. Mia says she can feel bystanders at the crash site praying for her family.

Mia’s grandmother collects angel trinkets and believes real angels are everywhere. Mia says she hopes Gran is right. She prays that the angels are too busy comforting her brother to worry about her. Mia mentions that her family attended church sometimes. As Kim sits in the hospital chapel, she notes the irony that emblems from so many different faiths line the walls.

She wonders why no Muslim or Buddhist representations appear. In an out-of-body experience, Mia senses that Kim is talking to her, not God. Although Kim usually mocks her own Jewish faith, she closes her eyes in the chapel and whispers what seem to Mia to be prayers in another language.

Mom, a proud feminist, is pro-abortion. She is outraged at an old friend’s funeral when she feels his beliefs have not been respected. The deceased was an atheist, but the minister talks about how the man is now walking with Jesus and getting his heavenly reward. Mia has a premonition that she will be attending Julliard.

As she contemplates her decision to live or let go, she says she has no idea what happens after you die. She also comes to believe it isn’t up to God whether she lives or dies. She says if He even exists, He’s not around right now. So the decision is all up to her.

Mia’s parents are loving and involved in her life. They are extremely liberal and speak openly about sex and alcohol in front of their children. For example, Mom prides herself on her feminist views and eagerly offers to help Mia get birth control when she starts dating Adam. Mia’s grandparents adore her and help her pursue her dreams of Julliard.

Words such as a–hole, p—, whore, balls, d–k, s—, b–ch, h—, d–n, slut, horndog, crap, the f-word and the Lord’s name in vain appear frequently and in various forms. Mia provides a few disturbing and gory details as she surveys the scene of her family’s crash.

As Mia recalls the beginning of her relationship with Adam, she says she was a virgin but certainly wasn’t devoted to staying that way. She says Adam was definitely not a virgin. She recalls, in detail, their first intimate encounter. Undressed, they play each other like musical instruments. She indicates she thinks her parents, who are home at the time, know what’s going on.

They allow it, she says, because they’re suckers for romance. Later, Mia indicates that Adam sometimes stays overnight. Even before she’s dated Adam for very long, Mom offers to take Mia to Planned Parenthood to get her on the pill. She tells Mia what diseases Adam should be tested for and gives Mia money to buy condoms.

  1. Mia and Adam make out after one of his concerts, and he says they should leave because he’s horny.
  2. Before Adam came along, Kim and Mia had always consoled themselves about their lack of boyfriends by saying that they wouldn’t be 40-year-old virgins and that they were the type to have boyfriends in college.

Mom always said she wished she hadn’t dated in high school, where a typical date was getting drunk, cow tipping and making out in a backseat. Mom and Dad attend the “shotgun” wedding of a friend who impregnated his girlfriend. Kim says all the kids at her Jewish camp just go to hook up.

  • Mom and Dad had a rocker wedding and were married by a lesbian justice of the peace.
  • One of Adam’s band members is a lesbian, and one of Mia’s friends at music camp is gay.
  • Alcohol: Adam gets drunk at a New Year’s Eve party.
  • Mia, though underage, also has some alcohol.
  • Her mom doesn’t mind, as long as she’s not hung over.

Throughout her narrative, Mia mentions other instances of excessive alcohol use by her parents in their younger days and their friends. Other negative behavior: Kim and Mia sometimes pull pranks at school or ditch class to go to art films. Mom sneaks Mia into a casino with her where Mom gambles for an hour.

  1. Girls wear racy, bust and leg-bearing costumes to the club where Adam is playing.

Some believe that the scandal’s repercussions led to Manti being drafted in the second round of the NFL draft instead of the first, resulting in a financial loss of millions of dollars.

However, the public also commended Te’o for his bravery and demeanor following the catfishing incident. While the catfishing scandal certainly impacted Te’o’s public image, it also brought attention to the issue of online deception and the importance of vigilance in the digital age. Can a 12 year old watch kissing scenes?

Why Do We Refrain Kids From Watching Kissing Scenes Onscreen? – Many parents don’t allow their kids to watch intimate scenes onscreen. They instantly change the channel or ask their kids to close their eyes. Some parents judge the character and choices if they ‘catch’ them watching intimate scenes onscreen. In fact, censor boards too censor the sexual content in movies stating that they are culturally immoral. But the question is are intimate scenes really culturally immoral? Should kids be kept unaware of intimacy? If parents don’t allow kids to watch intimate scenes in front of them, would kids not be exposed to such content on social media which is now accessible to people of every age? If kids don’t watch such scenes with supervision, will they ever understand the meaning of intimacy in the right way? And what could be the consequences of hiding intimacy and its importance in life from kids? Undoubtedly intimacy is a crucial part of life. Every relationship is based on certain forms of intimacy. Hugs and kisses are common in almost every relationship be it between partners, siblings or parents and children. But when it comes to intimacy between partners, it becomes difficult to explain it to kids. We have been raised with the conception that such intimacy is something that should be hidden from the world. A kind of taboo that should not be discussed out in the open. However, we forget that romantic intimacy cannot remain hidden. Today or tomorrow, everyone is attracted to a certain person. So it is better that people are told about intimacy in the right way beforehand so that their feelings do not find the wrong outlet. For example, if kids are not told about sex, they will understand it as something bad that they should refrain from. They would live at least half of their lives in a conflict that they feel urges that are morally incorrect. And consequently, they would find objectionable passages for their feelings like indulging in sex secretively, non-consensually and with the wrong person. Moreover, not teaching kids about &t=59s”>sex in a proper way will further encourage the hazy understanding of consent. But if kids are taught about kissing or sex as a part of love or attachment between two consenting adults, they won’t face a moral conflict. They will understand that intimacy is a healthy expression of emotions that are based on consent. Safe touch and contraception can also be taught to kids by discussing intimacy as a consensual bond. Kids will also understand the value of love as a medium of bonding between humans and not as a shameful emotion that needs to be hidden from the world. As it is said, kids do exactly what they are asked not to do. The more kids are refrained from watching intimate scenes, the more they will want to watch them. If kids watch such scenes without supervision, there are more chances of them interpreting it as a taboo that should be practised secretly. And secrecy has never led to good results. So there is no problem in letting kids watch kissing scenes or intimate scenes onscreen. The only thing we need to remember is that such scenes should be watched by kids under the supervision of parents who must discuss and respond to the questions that kids ask about such scenes. Can a 14-year-old watch 24

Answered By: Dylan Hughes Date: created: Aug 27 2024

As anyone who has seen the show will tell you, ’24’ is very addictive, so much so that if you introduce kids to it, they will get hooked. It’s rated TV-14, and while sex and swearing are not explicit, the violence, torture, and gore is excessive enough to earn a TV-MA.

Is 13 going on 30 appropriate for a 12 year old?

Because of some of the content I wouldn’t recommend the movie for younger children, but teens and upwards would get a kick out of the sweet romance. Otherwise, this is a great family movie for those of y’all who have older kids.
