Who killed Neville Longbottom
Appearances in other material – Cedric’s death is a major plot point in the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, in which Harry and Ginny Weasley ‘s son Albus uses a Time-Turner and prevents Cedric’s death. Due to his humiliation in the Triwizard Tournament, Cedric eventually becomes a Death Eater and kills Neville Longbottom,
Who was death in Harry Potter?
The first, and arguably most impactful, deaths that occurred in the Harry Potter franchise are the death of his parents: James and Lily Potter (Sorcerer’s Stone; Rowling, 1997). We later learn that James and Lily sacrificed themselves to protect one-year-old Harry from the dark wizard Lord Voldemort.
Who killed Ron Weasley
Protecting the Philosopher’s Stone – ” I have a few last-minute points to dish out. Let me see. First — to Mr Ronald Weasley. for the best-played game of chess Hogwarts has seen in many years, I award Gryffindor house fifty points. ” — Ron being awarded for winning the human chess match Ron sacrificing himself in the chess game in the Philosopher’s Stone Chambers During their first year, the three of them learnt that the Philosopher’s Stone was being hidden in Hogwarts and sought to protect it from being stolen by Severus Snape, whom the young wizards believed to be working for Lord Voldemort,
Ron’s talent in Wizard’s Chess allowed them to pass one of the obstacles protecting the stone, which was a life-sized game. Ron sacrificed himself as a game piece so Harry could place the enemy king in checkmate, allowing Harry and Hermione to move on. Ultimately, it was discovered that Professor Quirrell was trying to steal the stone for Voldemort.
Harry succeeded in defeating him and protecting the Philosopher’s Stone, and Ron was awarded fifty House points by Albus Dumbledore for ” the best played game of chess that Hogwarts has seen these many years “, allowing Gryffindor to win the House Cup for the first time in seven years.
Who killed Voldemort Harry or Neville?
Reception – Due in large part to the character’s impressive character arc throughout the series, Neville is often regarded as one of the greatest characters in the Harry Potter mythos. IGN ranked Neville as the 6th greatest character from the franchise stating, “Neville Longbottom is the quintessential dimwit-turned-hero.
When we first meet him at Hogwarts, Neville is a shy introvert who is simply not that good at magic. In fact, those close to Neville quietly wondered if he might nearly be a Squib, someone born into a wizarding family without magic powers. He’s lovable, sure, but his early misadventures don’t explicitly foreshadow the valiant defender of Hogwarts that he would ultimately become.” Even Christopher Hitchens, who was often critical of Rowling’s writing, called his “gallantry” in the final book “well evoked” and labelled the question of whether Neville would “rise above himself” one of the problems in the books that was resolved well.
Neville was always considered to be a fan favourite character in the first four books where he provided a mainly secondary role, before The Order of the Phoenix where he became one of the main characters and eventual leader of Dumbledore’s Army, Fans of the series admire Neville’s bravery and desire to avenge his parents and assist Harry, Ron and Hermione.
- Neville’s role in the prophecy in Order of the Phoenix is frequently referred to in a hypothetical scenario where Neville was the Chosen One rather than Harry.
- It is often suggested that Voldemort chose Harry over Neville because of Harry’s half-blood status.
- In the end, both were essential to Voldemort’s downfall, fulfilling the possibility that both Harry and Neville were, in fact, the Chosen One.
While Harry delivered the final blow to destroy Voldemort, Neville destroyed the final Horcrux which allowed Harry to end Voldemort. When asked about whether or not Neville was the chosen one, Neville’s portrayer Matthew Lewis stated, “I get asked about the prophecy an awful lot, and Neville’s potential as ‘The Chosen One’.
The contrast between the two people is that Harry was the reluctant hero who never wanted that on his shoulders and whatnot, but he just felt like he had to do it. Whereas Neville was kind of the hero that no one expected to be a hero, but still came out the other side being exactly that. Could Neville have been the Chosen One? Could he have achieved what Harry did? I think yeah, absolutely.
But the thing is: nobody in this series did anything on their own. Even Voldemort didn’t get to his level of power on his own. Harry saved the day because he had friends and people who loved him. I think, had it been Neville he would have had a similar experience.
Why is Cedric a death Eater?
Biography – This Cedric Diggory’s history was the same as the “mainstream” Cedric Diggory up until Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy (time travelling from 1994 to over twenty years into the future), intervened in the second task to keep him from finishing it, hoping that in so doing they would save his life, which had been their entire motivation for going back in time in the first place.
They succeeded, but unfortunately did so in such a way that Cedric Diggory ended up looking the fool in front of everyone assembled to watch for the second task. Seething with fury at his humiliation, Cedric ended up joining the Death Eaters come Voldemort’s return. As a result, during the Battle of Hogwarts, Cedric Diggory killed Neville Longbottom before he could destroy Nagini, thus keeping Voldemort immortal and allowing him to kill Harry Potter.
This in turn condemned the Wizarding World to tyranny under Voldemort (and also caused Albus Potter to cease to exist). Fortunately, Scorpius Malfoy was able to restore the timeline back to its original form, and the Voldemort-run dystopia (and the Death Eater version of Cedric Diggory), seemingly ceased to exist.
Who killed Snape
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Voldemort and his Death Eaters have tightened their grip on the wizarding world. Snape is named Headmaster of Hogwarts, while Death Eaters Alecto and Amycus Carrow are appointed as Hogwarts staff,
- The novel focuses largely on Harry and his friends and events outside the school; therefore Snape plays a limited role at the start.
- In the course of the book, Harry and his friends find out that a few students attempted to steal the Sword of Godric Gryffindor, and that Snape subsequently sent it to be stored at Gringotts Wizarding Bank ; however, that sword was only a copy.
Later on, Harry and Ron are led to find the real sword by a Patronus taking the form of a doe, (Towards the end of the book, Harry learns that this was Snape’s Patronus, taking the same shape as Harry’s mother Lily’s Patronus, a visible sign of his lifelong love for Harry’s mother, and that Dumbledore had asked Snape to ensure that Harry gained possession of the sword.
The novel also reveals that Snape had covertly used his position as Headmaster to protect the students and to contain the Carrows.) Towards the end of the school year, Professors McGonagall, Flitwick, and Sprout force Snape to flee the school. Voldemort summons Snape to the Shrieking Shack, Erroneously believing Snape is the master of the Elder Wand and that Snape’s death will make him the master of the Wand, Voldemort kills Snape by having his pet snake Nagini bite him through the neck.
The dying Snape releases a cloud of memories and tells Harry, who has watched the entire scene from a hidden spot, to take and view them. From these memories, Harry sees Snape’s childhood and learns his true loyalties. In this vision, Harry learns that Snape befriended Lily as a child when they lived near each other.
- Upon their arrival at Hogwarts, the Sorting Hat placed Snape and Lily into Slytherin and Gryffindor Houses, respectively.
- They remained friends for the next few years until they were driven apart by Snape’s interest in the Dark Arts; the friendship finally ended following the bullying episode that Harry had briefly seen in the fifth book, in which Snape calls Lily “Mudblood”.
Despite this separation and Snape’s enduring animosity toward Lily’s eventual husband James Potter, Snape continued to love Lily for the rest of his life. The memories also show that as a Death Eater, Snape had revealed to Voldemort a prophecy made by Sybill Trelawney, causing Voldemort to attempt to prevent it by killing Harry and his parents.
Snape, who had not realised until too late that Voldemort had interpreted the prophecy to be referring to Lily and her family (as it could’ve also referred to Frank and Alice Longbottom and their son Neville Longbottom ), asked Voldemort to spare Lily. Still in terror for her life, he also approached Dumbledore, admitted his actions, and begged him to protect the Potters.
Dumbledore chided him for thinking only of himself and not of Lily’s husband and child, but agreed and ensured that they were placed under the Fidelius Charm, In return, Snape secretly allied himself with Dumbledore and the Order of the Phoenix as a double agent against Voldemort, using his powers of Occlumency to hide his betrayal from Voldemort.
However, Snape demanded of Dumbledore that his love for Lily (his reason for switching sides) be kept a secret, especially from Harry, because of the deep animosity he felt towards Harry’s father and his mixed feelings towards Harry (who reminded him of both his love for Lily Potter and her death, and his animosity towards James Potter).
Dumbledore agreed and kept the secret throughout his life, although questioning Snape’s request to “never reveal the best of you”. Even with his efforts to protect her, Snape felt guilty and responsible for Lily’s death at Voldemort’s hands. Snape’s memories then reveal that Dumbledore had impetuously tried to use the Gaunt ring, which had been cursed by Voldemort, and had been suffering from a powerful curse.
Snape’s knowledge of the Dark Arts enabled him to slow the spread of the curse from Dumbledore’s hand through his body, but he would have died within a year. Dumbledore, aware that Voldemort had ordered Draco to kill him, had asked Snape to kill him instead as a way of sparing the boy’s soul and of preventing his own otherwise slow, painful death.
Although Snape was reluctant, even asking about the impact of such an action on his own soul, Dumbledore implied that this kind of coup de grâce would not damage a human’s soul in the same way murder would. Nevertheless, they both knew that Snape could not avoid what he had sworn to Narcissa at the beginning of the previous book.
Snape agreed to do as the Headmaster requested. Snape’s memories also provide Harry with the information he needs to ensure Voldemort’s final defeat, in the form of conversations Snape had with Dumbledore. Rowling noted in an interview that because Snape abandoned his post before dying or officially retiring, a portrait of him does not immediately appear in the Headmaster’s office following his death.
She adds, however, that she would like to think Harry made Snape’s true loyalty and heroism known in the Wizarding world, and that he lobbied to ensure that a portrait be installed in the office. In a separate interview, Rowling discussed Snape’s back story, saying she had planned it ever since she wrote the first book because the whole series is built around it and she considers him one of the most important characters of the seventh book.
Who killed Fred Weasley
Battle of Hogwarts and death – Percy : ” Hello, Minister! Did I mention I’m resigning? ” Fred : ” You’re joking, Perce! You actually are joking. I don’t think I’ve heard you joke since you were – ” — Fred Weasley’s last words Fred, along with his family and friends, returned to Hogwarts in the spring to participate in the final battle,
He and George were assigned to defend the castle’s secret passages by Kingsley Shacklebolt, When the Death Eaters forced their way inside, Fred fought next to his brother Percy, who had recently been reconciled with the family and combated his former boss, Imperiused Minister for Magic Pius Thicknesse,
Fred was killed in an explosion possibly caused by Augustus Rookwood, One of the last things Fred heard before dying was Percy joking about resigning from the Ministry, Percy wouldn’t leave Fred’s side until Harry and Ron helped him move the body to somewhere safer, coincidentally behind a suit of armor.
Did Snape make Hermione cry?
Snape made fun of Hermione’s teeth – It was a particularly cruel move, even by Snape’s standards. Hermione was hit by a stray curse during an altercation between Harry and Malfoy, and her front teeth began growing out of control. Snape dismissed the curse as bearing no change to her appearance, causing Hermione to flee in tears.
How did Dumbledore died?
Alan Rickman Was Critical of Dumbledore’s ‘Half-Blood Prince’ Death Scene: ‘It Seems Oddly Lacking in Drama’ ‘s never-before-seen diaries make up the new book “Madly, Deeply: The Diary of Alan Rickman,” which has been due to the legendary actor’s frank thoughts on the “” franchise.
- A new excerpt from reveals that Rickman was critical of Dumbledore’s death scene as depicted in 2009’s “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” The scene finds Rickman’s Snape stepping in to kill Dumbledore after Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) fails to do the deed.
- Snape had previously vowed to Draco’s mother that he would watch over her son.
“The scene seems oddly lacking in drama — on the page — but that is absolute cause and effect of screenplays that have to conflate (deflate) the narrative,” Rickman wrote. “We don’t know — or remember — enough about individual characters’ concerns to understand their issues.
- Or care.” Rickman seemed to be alluding to the movie having too many characters, thus making it impossible for viewers to be fully invested in all of them.
- While Dumbledore’s death impacts Harry Potter, the scene mainly boils down to the tensions between Snape and Draco.
- For a similar reason, Rickman took issue with a line of dialogue.
“To wit, I argue (successfully, today) that a line of Snape’s, ‘I gave my word. I made a vow,’ was confusing and diluting,” Rickman said. An original cut of the scene seemingly had Snape reminding the audience about his vow to Draco’s mother, thus explaining his decision to step in and kill Dumbledore himself.
- Rickman found it reductive and got the dialogue removed from the film.
- The only words spoken by Snape in the moment are “Avada Kedavra,” which is the killing curse that ends Dumbledore’s life.
- Dumbledore’s death marked the climax of Snape and Draco’s relationship.
- Draco actor Tom Felton that Rickman had a stern reaction whenever Felton accidentally messed with Snape’s cloak on set during filming.
“Eventually, I was told in no uncertain terms by Alan Rickman: ‘Don’t step on my fucking cloak,'” Felton said. ” sort of giggled. Death eaters and I looked at each other and thought, ‘Is he joking?’ It quickly became apparent: he’s totally not joking.” “Madly, Deeply: The Diary of Alan Rickman” will be released on Oct.18.
What if Hermione died?
If she died early on in the story, the tone would become darker and the plot would change quite a lot (but that’s true if you remove any important character, including Ron). I do think Harry would have been able to defeat Voldemort by the end without her, however.
Is Bill Weasley a werewolf?
Half-Blood Prince – When Harry arrives at The Burrow after meeting Horace Slughorn, Fleur Delacour brings him his breakfast, during which she announces that she and Bill are engaged to be married the following summer. Ron, Hermione, and Harry agree with Ginny that Molly Weasley dragging Nymphadora Tonks under Bill’s nose is unlikely to divert Bill’s attention; Tonks also seems too depressed since the Battle at the Ministry to be interested in Bill.
- Bill is apparently living at The Burrow and is there for Harry’s birthday.
- He mentions that Florean Fortescue has departed his ice cream store in Diagon Alley,
- Bill, who works for Gringotts, retrieves some money for Harry from his vault, saying that due to tight security measures, it could take Harry several hours to get into Gringotts.
Bill and Fleur are at the Burrow at Christmas; Mrs. Weasley is mildly upset that Tonks, though invited, has chosen to stay away. She believes Bill’s presence is keeping Tonks from spending Christmas with them. Bill is present during the battle under the Astronomy Tower ; he was evidently one of the Order members guarding Hogwarts while Albus Dumbledore was absent.
Bill is viciously mauled by the werewolf, Fenrir Greyback, Fortunately, as Fenrir was not transformed at the time, Bill did not become a werewolf, though Madam Pomfrey is unable to completely heal his face, and he remains permanently scarred. Molly Weasley believes Fleur will break the engagement, being he is no longer as handsome as he was.
Fleur is indignant at this suggestion, proclaiming she is pretty enough for them both, and the wedding is still on. This declaration marks the beginning of Molly and Fleur’s reconciliation. Though there is fear that Fenrir’s attack may have turned Bill into a werewolf, the only permanent damage he suffers is his scarred face and a new craving for very rare steaks.
Who killed Bellatrix Lestrange?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – The first chapter of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows implies that Voldemort is still angry with Bellatrix, as evidenced when he makes fun of the fact that her niece Tonks married werewolf Remus Lupin, However, Voldemort gives Bellatrix a chance to “prune” her family tree during the Death Eaters’ attempt to capture Harry as the boy departs from the Dursleys ‘ home, during which Bellatrix unsuccessfully tries to kill Tonks.
- In this book, Rowling reveals that Bellatrix is the guardian of Helga Hufflepuff ‘s cup (though she is unaware that it is a Horcrux ), which Voldemort has entrusted the Lestranges to keep in their Gringotts vault.
- Bellatrix and the Malfoys detain Harry, Ron, and Hermione at Malfoy Manor, and Hermione is tortured by Bellatrix when she suspects the trio has broken into her vault, but Dobby appears and saves the prisoners, though not before being hit by a knife thrown by Bellatrix as they disapparate to safety.
Later in the book, Harry, Ron, and Hermione use a stray hair of Bellatrix’s to disguise Hermione as Bellatrix using Polyjuice Potion, in order to gain access to the Lestrange’s Gringotts vault. Though Voldemort apparently punishes Bellatrix and the Malfoys severely for interrupting his Elder Wand side quest only to have Potter escape and steal the cup, she nevertheless fights for her master in the Battle of Hogwarts towards the end of the novel.
When the battle resumes inside the Great Hall after Harry’s supposed death, Bellatrix simultaneously duels with Hermione, Ginny, and Luna Lovegood, none of whom is a match for Bellatrix, who nearly hits Ginny with a Killing Curse, An enraged Molly Weasley engages Bellatrix in a duel and fires a curse that hits Bellatrix right over the heart, killing her.
Rowling revealed that, though there was speculation that Neville would kill Bellatrix, she had always intended Molly to do so because the author wanted to match Bellatrix’s obsessive love with Molly’s maternal love.
Who actually killed Dumbledore?
Why Did Snape Kill Dumbledore? – But, how does becoming a Death Eater relate to Snape eventually killing Dumbledore? Joining forces with Lord Voldemort, or “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named,” meant proving his loyalty to his master and subordinates. While Voldemort did trust Snape, some of the other Death Eaters grew vary of his allegiance over time.
In order to win their trust back, Snape would have to take drastic measures to convince them of his loyalty. What better way to do this than to kill one of Voldemort’s biggest threats? It all began when Bellatrix Lestrange suggested that Snape make an Unbreakable Vow to protect her sister Narcissa’s son, Draco Malfoy.
However, Draco was ordered by Voldemort to kill Dumbledore. Lestrange saw this as an opportunity to test Snape’s loyalty and while making this vow to always watch over Draco, Lestrange forced Snape to agree to killing Dumbledore himself in case the youngster was unable to do so.
- There is another reason why Snape agreed to make this vow, and that is Dumbledore himself.
- The wise wizard was aware of Draco’s mission, and was worried about him going over to the dark side if he succeeded.
- Snape took the fall instead at Dumbledore’s insistence.
- But, that’s not all.
- Dumbledore was also aware that he wouldn’t be alive for long because he had been cursed by the Horcrux ring,
Instead of suffering a painful death, he urged Snape to end his misery. He was confident that Snape was loyal to him, and his allegiance with Voldemort was simply to protect Harry, because he failed to protect his mother Lily. Ultimately, Dumbledore’s death at Snape’s hands was a win for everyone involved. The headmaster got the respectful death he wanted, Snape was able to prove his loyalty to the Death Eaters, and Malfoy was saved from Voldemort’s wrath. It might have been a shock to many, but having one of the most loved characters die the way he did made sense in the long run.
- After the release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince in 2009, the sixth installment in the Harry Potter film series, many fans spent hours online trying to understand the events of the film.
- Those who had read the books were more aware, but film goers were angry, devastated, and confused at the same time.
“Snape kills Dumbledore” became the most hated spoiler of the year, as fans expressed their shock on social media. However, it is important to understand the course of the events that led up to Dumbledore’s death before making a decision on whether Snape was truly evil.
- The character redeemed himself by the time the franchise ended, as his intentions to save Harry became clear.
- While Snape might have gone through a tumultuous journey, what matters most is the end.
- While many believed the act of killing Dumbledore made Snape the ultimate villain, it was in fact a brave act to showcase his loyalty towards the beloved wizard.
Even though Harry, and many fans, couldn’t see it, all of Snape’s actions were meant for the best. But, more than a decade later, many still argue that Snape killing Dumbledore was unnecessary. The Harry Potter franchise is available to stream on HBO Max.
Has Hermione ever killed anyone?
Hermione – 1 – Of the three main heroes of the Harry Potter franchise, it was Harry who had the most blood on his hands. Neither Ron Weasley nor Hermione Granger got much blood on their hands, as they mostly fought for their own survival. While Ron never killed anyone in the movies, Hermione had her one big moment in the Battle of Hogwarts.
Is Harry Potter a Half Blood?
Half-blood – ” Half-blood ” is the term applied to wizards and witches who have both magical and Muggle ancestors in their family trees. They are the most common blood status, far outnumbering pure-bloods and Muggle-borns. Rowling has stated that, of the Hogwarts annual intake, fifty per cent are half-bloods.
Pure-blood supremacists view half-bloods as inferior to them, although superior to Muggles and Muggle-borns. The Malfoy family, a family of wealthy wizards who showed disdain to Muggles, attempted to maintain blood purity but found it acceptable to marry half-bloods if there was a dearth of marriageable pure-bloods.
Voldemort is a half-blood, and his most guarded secret which few wizards know is that his father was Tom Riddle, a Muggle. Severus Snape is also a half-blood (he gave himself the nickname ” The Half-Blood Prince “), as his father Tobias Snape was a Muggle.
Who is the heir of Gryffindor?
I am taking “related” in the widest sense of the word, which means I will take – the obvious ones where Harry is clearly the Heir of Gryffindor (or another Founder) – fics where it is mentioned that Harry is related to one of the Founders even though he is not the Heir, – fics where Harry himself is one of the Founders, either through timetravel or reincarnation, – fics where the relationship is due to a blood-bond, marriage or adoption, – fics where Harry is not blood-related to any of the Founders but is their magical Heir.
The only kind of relationship I do NOT take is if it’s purely sexual (without marriage). – No badly written stories, WIPs with less than five chapters written or short abandoned WIPs. (I am willing to take abandoned stories for this list, provided they are lengthy.) 1) Harry is related to Godric Gryffindor 2) Harry is related to Salazar Slytherin, Rowena Ravenclaw or Helga Hufflepuff 3) Harry is related to more than one Founder 4) Harry is one of the Founders, by timetravel or reincarnation When you rec stories for this list, please don’t leave just a link.
To put them up in this list I particularly need a summary and what Harry’s relationship to the Founders is. Status (WIP, Complete, Hiatus, Abandoned or One-shot), pairings (if there are any) and Rating would help as well!!! Thanks. 🙂 And thank you everyone who contributed to this list.

Is Neville in the cursed child?
Cameos in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is chock full of cameos and reappearances of people from Harry Potter’s past. We see Moaning Myrtle, Hagrid, Vernon and Petunia Dursley, Bane the centaur, Viktor Krum, Harry’s Dead Parents, Dolores Umbridge, the Trolley Witch, Severus Snape, and Cedric Diggory.
- Most of these characters are simple cameos, and we learn little new about them.
- However, we do see that the Trolley Witch is actually guardian of the Hogwarts Express.
- We learn that Aunt Petunia wasn’t entirely heartless (only 99% heartless), and that Snape is noble enough that he is willing to change an entire timeline, even though the one he’s changing it to is the one in which he is dead.
is perhaps the most complicated cameo. We never knew much about him before he died in Goblet of Fire, but here we learn that, if he’d lived, the whole world would have gone to hell. Seriously, it’s good that he’s dead, because after being humiliated, Cedric became a Death Eater.
- Yikes. Finally, we have to discuss the cameo we’re teased with, but never happens:,
- He is mentioned multiple times, but never seen on stage.
- Basically, The Cursed Child confirms that the fate of the world always rested on Neville’s shoulders.
- In the “Harry’s Dead” timeline, Voldemort isn’t alive because Harry died, Voldemort is alive because Cedric killed Neville, which means Neville never killed Voldemort’s snake.
As Ron says, RON: You’re telling me that the whole of history rests on Neville Longbottom? This is pretty wild. (3.7.2) Sure is, Weasley. Now if only we could get Neville’s side of the story. : Cameos in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Does Neville Longbottom get killed?
Neville Longbottom didn’t die, he killed Nagini before the dwell of Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. But in the 8th book, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, when Harry Potter’s son Albus Severus Potter used humiliation to stop Cedric from going to the final task which involved his death.
What happened to Neville Longbottom in the end?
Professor Of Herbology – Neville has one of Harry Potter ‘s longest, most fascinating, and most transformative arcs. He goes from a shy and nervous boy to a brave man who takes out Lord Voldemort’s final Horcrux. The duality of Neville’s character is also emphasized by his post-Hogwarts life.
Why wasn t Neville killed with his parents
What Happened To Neville & The Longbottoms After They Were Attacked? – Frank and Alice Longbottom served hugely important roles in the First Wizarding War, assisting the Order in many crucial captures and battles. As Aurors, they were among the most powerful and brave of them all. But following their torture at the end of the war, they both suffered intense psychological breakdowns that effectively destroyed their lives.
- The couple was placed in the permanent ward of St Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, where they’d spend the rest of their days.
- Unforgivable Curses aren’t used often in the Harry Potter franchise, but the torture of Frank and Alice really proves how powerful they can be.
- Following the hospitalization of his parents, Neville Longbottom was sent to live with his grandmother, Augusta.
Although she’s never seen in the movies, it’s clear from Neville’s pristine behavior and law-abiding attitude that she was a fairly strict guardian to the boy, raising him to respect the rules of the world, just like his parents. She was very protective of Neville, but that makes complete sense considering his role in Professor Trelawney’s elusive prophecy.
She’d claimed that only one young boy could defeat Voldemort, and Neville Longbottom happened to be one of two individuals (alongside Harry) to fit her description. Although Neville probably wasn’t the ‘boy who lived,’ Augusta knew that if the Death Eaters ever discovered his potential involvement in the prophecy, he’d become their biggest target.
So, she raised him to be a perfectly unremarkable wizard that stayed out of trouble. He visited his parents from time to time, but the effects of their breakdowns prevented them from ever truly connecting with their son. Neville continued to build a relationship with them, paying visits whenever he could, but his parents simply weren’t the same people as they once had been.
