Who will die in Stranger Things Volume 4
Season 4’s death count was almost even higher. Stranger Things 2 Warning: This post contains spoilers for Stranger Things season 4. The fourth season of Stranger Things featured the deaths of beloved (and not so beloved) characters, including Hellfire Club president and metalhead Eddie Munson ( Joseph Quinn ) and Dr.
Martin Brenner ( Matthew Modine ). As it turns out, another character narrowly avoided a grim fate. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer revealed that in an initial script, Enzo ( Tom Wlaschiha ), the Russian security guard who becomes imprisoned police chief Jim Hopper’s ( David Harbour ) confidante, did not make it out of Kamchatka.
“In terms of who makes it, who lives or dies, I think there was a version where Dimitri, a.k.a. Enzo, didn’t make it,” Matt told Collider, At first an untrustworthy ally, Enzo helps Hopper burst out of the high-security prison. But not so much out of the goodness of his own heart — it’s all about the Benjamins, baby.
He’s in cahoots with a kooky pilot named Yuri (Nikola Djuricko), who double crosses the both of them — as well as the unassuming Joyce ( Winona Ryder ) and Murray (Brett Gelman) in exchange for even more Benjamins, baby. (The same, of course, cannot be said for another Russian fan favorite, the Slurpee-loving Alexei, in season 3.
- RIP. Gone but never forgotten.) “But that’s radical of a departure from the original idea versus what we ended up with.” Ross added that it’s unusual for them to deviate from initial scripts.
- When we’re breaking a season, that is one of the first things we’re talking about is, ‘Where do we want this story to end up?’ So the ending is always that goal post.
Even as we’re breaking episode one, we know exactly where we’re going. I don’t think we’ve deviated truly in any season for the finale, we’ve always stuck to it. I believe the case is the same here.” Natalie Dyer, Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Maya Hawke, Sadie Sink, and Caleb McLaughlin on ‘Stranger Things’ Natalie Dyer, Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Maya Hawke, Sadie Sink, and Caleb McLaughlin in ‘Stranger Things’ | Credit: Tina Rowden/Netflix The brothers previously revealed that they already know how the forthcoming fifth and final season will end — they’re just not quite sure how to get there yet.
One thing is for sure: Season 5 will be set entirely in Hawkins, following a season 4 that also spanned California and Russia. “We wanna go back to a lot of the things we did in season 1,” Matt said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast Monday. “A lot of the original groupings and pairings that we had in season 1 – there’s something nice about coming full circle.” Ross said of the ending, “While a lot of season 5 is actually pretty blurry, the last 30 minutes of it are pretty clear in our heads.
So if we can make the journey entertaining, I think that we have an end that will hopefully satisfy. You can’t satisfy everyone, but the hope is that it’s something that feels right for this story.” They also said Eddie’s death will have “huge repercussions” amongst the survivors.
Who are Vecna’s 4 victims?
The curse gates were four specific gates opened by Vecna in March 1986. Through his “curse” power, Vecna began tormenting and killing various Hawkins residents; with every murder, a new gate would open at the site of the victim’s death. Vecna took the lives of Chrissy Cunningham, Fred Benson, Patrick McKinney and Max Mayfield,
Why did Vecna pick Max?
Why Did Vecna Go After Max? – As Vecna continued to go after young victims in order to open more portals, he set his sights on Max Mayfield, since she was investigating the deaths of Chrissy and another student named Fred Benson with help from her friends (including Dustin, Steve, and her boyfriend Lucas).
However, when Max began to have hallucinations when she sees the grandfather clock, along with nightmares in which she re-imagines the death of her stepbrother Billy Hargrove, Vecna sees through Max’s pain and fear, realizing that he’s encountered someone who suffered just like he did as a child. Billy’s death at the end of season three made Max feel guilty about herself, negatively affecting everyone close to her, causing Vecna to use that to his advantage when trying to break through Hawkins.
While Eleven manages to save Max after her brief death and battles back against Vecna in Max’s mind (while Nancy, Steve, and Robin shoot and light up Vecna’s physical body), the villain is most likely still alive since the Upside Down manages to invade Hawkins by tearing through Vecna’s four gates.
Why did Vecna choose Nancy
A Therapist Explains Why Vecna Chose Nancy in ‘Stranger Things 4′ This content is imported from youTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site. In the world of Stranger Things, may well be one of the most compelling villains to ever emerge from the Upside Down, and some of the tensest moments in Season 4 came when a character would hear the sinister chimes that heralded is presence. One such moment occurred in the cliffhanger episode that ended Vol.1, where Nancy fell under Vecna’s spell.
Nancy’s encounter with Vecna definitely starts out similarly to the others, with him taking her back to the source of her guilt and shame: the death of Barb in Season 1. But he doesn’t go in for the kill, instead choosing to share his master plan with her. While this is something of a supervillain trope, it doesn’t exactly make sense for him to reveal his intentions on a plot level.
, however, believes there’s a sound psychological reason for this. “When someone changes their pattern there’s always a reason for it, and Vecna’s interaction with Nancy is very different,” she says. “Vecna seems to be actually intrigued by Nancy being able to figure him out, to be able to get this close to the truth.
Why did Vecna pick Patrick
Vecna’s Victim Choices Explained – It’s only by coincidence that Vecna targets Stranger Things’ Max for a future purpose. Otherwise, Stranger Things’ season 4 episode “The Monster and The Superhero” proves that Vecna is able to choose from an array of potential Hawkins victims before he latches onto Patrick McKinney (Myles Truitt).
Vecna’s ’86 victims include Chrissy Cunningham (Grace Van Dien), who suffered from her mother’s body-shaming abuse. School newspaper reporter Fred Benson (Logan Riley Bruner) fled from a deadly car accident that continues to haunt him. Patrick was targeted due to his father’s abuse of him. Finally, Vecna targets Max for her trauma from witnessing Billy’s death and uses Barb’s (Shannon Purser) death as a way to use Nancy.
If traumatic memories fuel Vecna’s powers and Vecna is able to choose his victims from a variety of traumatized people, then it stands to reason that Vecna decides which memories he’d like in his subconscious.
Who took Vecna’s eye
Other interesting information about Vecna’s eyes – The Duffer Brothers reference the game Dungeons & Dragons heavily throughout the series. In fact, one could argue that the concept of D&D drives a heavy portion of the show’s plotline. The idea of Vecna is no different.
Vecna in Stranger Things was inspired by the villain in Dungeons & Dragons — a powerful, undead spellcaster, called a lich. In the D&D realm, a defining feature of Vecna is that he’s missing his left hand and left eye. This is because his trusted accomplice, Kas the Bloody-Handed, betrayed him and used the sword Vecna created himself to chop off his left hand and remove his left eye.
This ultimately destroyed Vecna. Though they’re clouded with cataracts, Vecna in Stranger Things has both of his eyes. For now, at least. Could Vecna’s fate in D&D be a foreshadowing of his demise in Stranger Things ? That will be left up to the Duffer Brothers and how closely they want to follow Dungeons & Dragons.
Why did Vecna choose Billy
Vecna’s Plan For The Mind Flayer Explained – Vecna’s decision to attack Max is understandable. He needs to establish a strong psychic connection with his victims, and it is easier to attack minds that are fragile from trauma, guilt, and fear. Max’s guilt over Billy’s death, not just because he was her step-brother but because there were times in her life when she wanted him to die, provided more than enough trauma for Vecna to manipulate.
- Max likely wouldn’t have been chosen as one of Vecna’s victims had her grief not been so all-consuming after Billy’s death in Stranger Things season 3,
- Considering the Mind Flayer was able to infiltrate certain minds just like its master, and Billy’s mind was riddled with pain and anguish as well, it’s easy to imagine that Vecna made the connection between the two step-siblings and exploited that for his own gain.
He might have known of the friendship between Max and Eleven and decided that going after one of her friends would be the easiest way to get close to her and steal her powers. However, Vecna is also afraid of Eleven. His powers in the Upside Down make him feel like a god, but Eleven has beaten him once before.
His goal in sending the Mind Flayer to Hawkins was to ensure that Eleven would no longer be a threat. However, by targeting one of her friends, it ensured that Eleven would do whatever was in her power to return to Hawkins to save those she loves. It is implied that Eleven’s pain over Max’s death is what forced Max’s heart to start beating again, which means that while the micro gate caused by her death did open, it may not be as solid as the others as she came back to life a mere few minutes later.
Choosing Billy as the Mind Flayer’s first victim caused this chain of events: Max’s grief was so palpable that Vecna couldn’t resist, which set Eleven on a path to getting her powers back, possibly stronger than before, which will allow her to fight Vecna again when the time comes.
It’s probably safer to say that Billy was chosen as the Mind Flayer’s first victim because of his fragile state of mind. He was constantly angry, overwhelmed by his abusive father, and became abusive himself in return. It is interesting to note the connection between Billy, Max, and Vecna, and perhaps Stranger Things season 5 will provide a more concrete answer as to what Vecna’s true knowledge of the Hawkins gang has been all along.

Why was Vecna killing everyone
Stranger Things shows that Vecna’s season 4 victims are found in his Mindscape separate from the real world and Upside Down. Here’s why that could be. Warning: contains SPOILERS for Stranger Things season 4. Stranger Things season 4 shows the bodies of Vecna’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) teenage Hawkins victims in his Mindscape – but why exactly does he keep them? Vecna’s first season 4 victim is Chrissy Cunningham (Grace Van Dien), who is targeted based on the trauma she carries due to her body-shaming mother.
- Likewise, Vecna’s subsequent victims hold their own traumatic histories – school newspaper reporter Fred Benson (Logan Riley Bruner) was involved in a deadly car accident and fled from the scene, and basketball player Patrick McKinney (Myles Truitt) had an abusive father.
- Vecna also eventually targets Max (Sadie Sink) and Nancy (Natalia Dyer) for their own traumatic pasts regarding the deaths of people important to them.
Ultimately, it is revealed in Stranger Things season 4’s finale that the reason why Vecna was killing Hawkins teenagers was to create a massive gate that merges the Right Side Up with the Upside Down – and he specifically needed four bodies to do so.
- Max first encounters Vecna’s Mindscape in the Stranger Things episode “Dear Billy,” where she finds psychological iterations of Chrissy and Fred’s disfigured bodies entrapped by vines in trunk-like structures.
- The bodies found in Vecna’s Mindscape are only his recent victims – Vecna’s sister and mother, along with the Hawkins Lab massacre victims, aren’t seen.
This suggests that the bodies of Vecna’s recent victims, even as figurative Mindscape creations, are needed for a deeper purpose. Understanding why Vecna keeps his victims further helps explain why he was killing them in the first place. After all, Stranger Things’ Vecna waited seven years before he started killing again, and his recent Hawkins victims differentiate from his family and the Hawkins lab victims because they’re completely unknown to Vecna.
How was 8 not killed by Vecna?
In the new episodes, Eight is nowhere to be seen in the lab, and isn’t one of Vecna’s victims when he massacres all of the children in the experiment. However, Vecna does reference Eight in season four, suggesting that she managed to escape before El – changing the timeline of events.
Did Nancy shoot Vecna
Nancy Wheeler revealing the future events that Vecna showed her may have also confirmed a major character death in Stranger Things season 5. WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Stranger Things season 4, vol.2. Nancy’s visions from Vecna may have secretly teased a major character’s death in Stranger Things season 5. In Stranger Things season 4, episode 8, “Papa,” Vecna lets Nancy Wheeler live after showing her the destruction of Hawkins and corresponding catastrophic events in the future, with the villain commanding her to tell Eleven what she’s seen.
- Since Vecna’s plan for the Upside Down’s takeover of Hawkins came true in Stranger Things season 4’s ending, Nancy’s vision of the horrifying fates of her loved ones could also come to fruition in the show’s final installment.
- In Stranger Things season 4’s ending, the Hawkins gang devised a plan to bait Vecna with Max in order to kill him in the Upside Down.
The plan was met with several obstacles, as Robin, Steve, and Nancy were wrapped up in the Upside Down’s vines while Vecna and Eleven fought inside of Max’s mind. In his final effort to keep the Demobats away from Creel House, Eddie Munson sacrificed himself, dying a hero so the teens’ plan could move forward.
- However, Vecna managed to break Max’s limbs and blind her before Eleven was able to overpower him, with his form in the Upside Down being left vulnerable for Robin, Steve, and Nancy to destroy with fire.
- While Eleven exhibited a new power to resurrect Max, Nancy managed to shoot Vecna and launch him out of Creel House, but would quickly realize he hadn’t actually been killed.
Vecna briefly killing Max ultimately allowed him to open all four gates and officially take over Hawkins with the Upside Down, confirming the bleak future he had shown Nancy. With Vecna still alive heading into Stranger Things season 5, it’s clear that his plan for world domination isn’t complete, meaning the rest of Nancy’s visions are apt to come true as well.
Who was the 4th person Vecna killed?
Max Mayfield (Technically) – The terror on Lucas’ face when he saw Max’s bones begin to crack grotesquely. She tells Lucas than she cannot see nor hear and doesn’t want to die. But she does. Her heart stops, making her the fourth death in Vecna’s plan. But Eleven is able to reach her with their great memories, restarting her heart. Netflix
Who was Vecna’s 1st victim
5) Chrissy – Following the departure of Eleven from Hawkins and the loss of her powers, Henry/Vecna made his return in 1986. His first victim was Chrissy Cunningham. Vecna targeted Chrissy by using her depression and eating disorder against her in his visions. Chrissy was killed in Eddie Munson’s trailer, and the first gate was opened on the ceiling.
Who betrayed Vecna in Stranger Things?
Character biography – Vecna was born as a human, centuries ago as a member of the untouchable caste in the Flan city of Fleeth on Oerth, He was initially trained by his mother, Mazzel, in the art of magic, before she was executed by the government of Fleeth for practicing witchcraft.
Vowing revenge, Vecna eventually assumed a mastery of the dark arts achieved by no mortal before or since. Some say this achievement was due to direct tutelage by Mok’slyk the Serpent, believed to be the personification of arcane magic itself. Nearly one thousand years after his birth, Vecna, now a lich and ruler of a great and terrible empire (in the Sheldomar Valley, centered near the modern-day Rushmoors ), laid siege to the city of Fleeth with an army of arcane spellcasters and undead.
Legend has it that Vecna was nearly slain in this battle by clerics channeling the power of Pholtus, the god of light. The clerics unleashed a great burst of light, which hit Vecna primarily on his left side. Vecna was rescued and brought to safety by one of his wizard generals, a cambion named Acererak (who would one day himself become a mighty demilich ).
Vecna eventually recovered. On the verge of conquering Fleeth, the officials of the city came before him to beg for mercy. They offered up the entire city and her wealth if only Vecna would spare the lives of her citizens. When Vecna was not satisfied, the officials offered their own lives. Vecna gave one of their number, Artau, and his family, over to his lieutenant, Kas, who spent the entire day torturing and murdering them before the other officials.
Still unsatisfied, Vecna slaughtered all within the city, and had their heads stacked before the officials, with those of their family members prominent. Vecna then granted his mercy, granting the officials leave to depart, and promising them his protection for the rest of their lives.
- At his empire’s height, Vecna was betrayed and destroyed by his most trusted lieutenant, a vampire called Kas the Bloody-Handed, using a magical sword that Vecna himself had crafted for him, now known as the Sword of Kas,
- Only his left hand and his eye survived the battle, perhaps because of the previous events in Fleeth.
Vecna did not stay gone forever, and rose as a demigod of magic and secrets in the world of Greyhawk, In 581 CY, his cult helped set events in motion that would have granted him the power of a greater god, but the plan was ultimately foiled. After these events, Vecna ended up imprisoned in the demiplane of Ravenloft, but broke free again later, emerging with the power of a greater god, after absorbing the power of Iuz,
- He then broke free into the city of Sigil, where he came perilously close to rearranging all existence to his whims.
- Vecna’s multiverse shattering campaign in Sigil is used as an in-universe way to explain the differences between the 2nd and 3rd editions of Dungeons & Dragons.) When Vecna was ejected from Sigil by a party of adventurers, Iuz was freed and Vecna returned to Oerth greatly reduced in power, though still a lesser god.
In the events of the Living Greyhawk campaign setting, Vecna’s machinations allowed him to reappear on the prime material plane and retake his place in the Oerth pantheon.
