Is Ezra on the A-team
Pretty Little Liars Bombshell: Aria Finds Out Ezra’s Shocking Betrayal—Scoop on What’s Next for Ezria’s Future! ABC Family WARNING! We’re about to discuss the jaw-dropping secrets that were revealed in tonight’s all-new episode of Pretty Little Liars, If you do not want to know what happened, or discover the dark details that are coming up, turn around, and run away.
For everyone else, let’s discuss Can you believe what just happened?! Thanks to Pretty Little Liars ‘ latest earth-shattering shocker, our hearts are pounding, our heads are spinning and we’re currently in the fetal position hyperventilating through our tears. Take a deep breath, little liars, because we’re here to help you through tonight’s mind-boggling reveal: Aria ( Lucy Hale ) discovered that Ezra ( Ian Harding ) is not “A”! We repeat: Ezra is not “A”— nor has he ever been a member of the A-Team.
Instead, Aria discovered (while stuck on a chairlift!) that her dearly-beloved beau has been spying on our foursome since the very beginning of the series. Why, you ask? Ezra was gathering information for a tell-all book about Alison DiLaurentis’ disappearance.
- Umm, stalker? Party of one?! To help you process this totally unexpected, and heartbreaking reveal, we chatted with executive producer, Marlene King, to further clarify the information that just exploded in our television screens.
- Ezra is not A, but he is a pretty little liar.” King exclusively revealed to E! News.
“So now it’s going to be about what his true intentions were. Was he doing this for greed? Did this turn into something else? Was he helping the girls ultimately? You know, time will tell but I think that betrayal is betrayal.” King also pointed out a key clue that proved that Ezra was never A: “He’s never worn the hoodie.” Think about it, little liars.
Ezra’s devious outfit-of-choice was a black baseball cap and black jacket. There were no hoods, people! Now, we understand that this news is still extremely difficult for many fans to grasp. (We were full-on screaming when we discovered the twist!) So to help you come to terms with the news, and find out what this shock means for Aria in the episodes ahead, we’ve arranged an exclusive Q&A with executive producer Oliver Goldstick,
Read on for all the eye-popping answers We have conflicting emotions at the moment. On the one hand, Ezra fans should be happy because we now officially know that he’s not A, but on the other hand, you’ve just destroyed the entire Ezria relationship! What do you have to say for yourself? Oliver Goldstick: Oh my gosh, when you put it like that I feel like I’m on the hot seat! What often happens with people who choose a subject is they’re not necessarily in love in the beginning, but then they fall in love and they realize, ‘I can’t do this.’ If you look over the course of the past 95 episodes, there are moments when they were not together.
- There were holding periods and that’s when he would work on the book.
- We feel like in those times where Ezra was deeply involved with her, he was obviously very conflicted and he would stop.
- He would stop his research and he would stop working on his book, because his feelings for Aria made things way too complicated.
So we just haven’t been privy to that information because we were trying to keep a secret here. We weren’t privy to his inner conflict and I think there was a lot for him. Were Ezra’s feelings for Aria ever real? Yes. Yes, I think they were real. We always thought that because it’s just so much more interesting.
- If he was just an opportunist or a Machiavellian, it would really not be that interesting for the character, or for us to write.
- But if he is somebody who has ambition, and then somehow this poor person that he loves now has been crushed under the wheels of it, that’s very different.
- What does this reveal mean for Aria? How is she going to cope with this blindsiding news? Ezra beats her heart into butter, the poor thing.
The one thing I’ll say is, Aria is a woman scorned. She’s really angry and she’s not going to just take it passively. I’m not saying she becomes a kettle of crazy, but she does lose it. This betrayal is in such a large scale that she acts out—and rightfully so! Spencer has already been through a betrayal of this magnitude before.
Will Aria lean on Spencer and the other girls order to cope with this news? She will to some degree, but the problem is that Spencer has her own problems and her own troubles going on. If only Spencer was available to lean on. If Aria were to lean on her too hard, Spencer would crash to the ground and they’d both fall six feet under.
So no, Spencer is not someone she can lean on at this point. Has this Ezra/book twist always been in the works, or was this created because of the intensely negative fan reaction last summer when you broke Ezra fans’ hearts? Once we got picked up for a second season, we really came back with a lot of outrageous Blue Sky ideas, as we call it, and this has been floating up there since then.
- We had many different things up there, including the notion of Ezra being A, but it was the question of how to pace it out and how to make it feel organic.
- So, I would say it was in the ether, and it was already out there, but it wasn’t always fully defined.
- Why did Ezra choose to have this relationship with Aria? Why not Hanna or Spencer? I think honestly that was serendipitous because of that bar.
I feel like Aria walked in there in the pilot and he was already sitting. We didn’t really talk about how he honed into Aria or why he chose her, I think there was a mutual attraction. I think he was already ambitious and wanted to do something about Ali because a year had passed and she was missing.
- He thought this would be his big book that would break him into the business, into the publishing world.
- It was too wonderful of an opportunity not to write about it before he met Aria.
- But even then, as we’ve sort of hinted, Ezra’s past with Alison makes him still have some conscience about this and how he wants this to be exposed.
Was Ezra obsessed with Ali? I think he was obsessed because the girl is an enchantress. This girl, Alison, has been mythic to us for 95 episodes and what’s interesting in this next season is she’s going to become very flesh and blood. Before, she had a very big mythology to her because she’s always been seen through everyone else’s eyes.
- And I think in Ezra’s eyes as well, she’s gained mythic proportions because of her disappearance.
- I think he knew already that she was a crafty girl, who was capable of incredible lies and was incredibly precocious.
- He wondered if it was possible that she could’ve pulled this off? Was she really gone? I think he always questioned it.
While Ezra has been watching these girls, has he witnessed A’s evil antics and just turned the other cheek? No, no, no, no. I wouldn’t say that. We could look back at other episodes and see that he even got a message. I believe it was in episode five of season one, A was on Aria’s phone and he read it and they got in a fight and he said to her, “You told people about our relationship.
If A knows, how about B and C?” We never wanted to commit to him knowing that the girls had been being tormented like that, because that would’ve been cruel. Ready for even more scoop?! Tomorrow night, E! News will air your exclusive first look at Aria’s first “kettle of crazy” act since discovering Ezra’s betrayal from next week’s episode.
Tune into E! News Wednesday night at 7 and 11:30 p.m. on E! to see Aria’s extremely emotional and rage-fueled breakdown. : Pretty Little Liars Bombshell: Aria Finds Out Ezra’s Shocking Betrayal—Scoop on What’s Next for Ezria’s Future!
Who was the main killer in Pretty Little Liars
Alison Lauren DiLaurentis, also known as Ali, is the main antagonist of the Pretty Little Liars novels. Alison is revealed to be ‘A’ and a psychopathic serial killer who murdered a total of seven people.
Is Ezra really A Pretty Little Liars?
Trivia –
Despite serving as one of the main antagonists of the fourth season, Ezra is an anti-villain, as he was only stalking the girls for his book. Having said that, fans (and even the Liars) suspected that he was A due to his actions in Season 4B, even though he was in no way associated with A.
Why is Ezra in A’s lair?
Ezra’s Lair is where Ezra Fitz keeps all items and information pertaining to research and surveillance for the book he is writing about Alison DiLaurentis. It was first seen (in its entirety) in Ravenswood, by the Liars, in ‘Now You See Me, Now You Don’t’.
Who is Spencer’s twin
Background – Alex is the third and last child born to Mary Drake after Mary posed as her twin sister Jessica DiLaurentis to sleep with Peter Hastings whom Jessica previously had an affair with. Mary later gave birth to identical twins at Radley Sanitarium, a mental institution where she was frequently a patient.
- The oldest child, Spencer Hastings, was taken from Mary (much like her first born Charlotte ) and placed in the care of Peter and his wife, Veronica,
- Alex was born minutes after Spencer, and her existence was unknown to Peter and Veronica.
- Mary, desperate to escape Radley, allowed Doctor Cochran to arrange Alex’s adoption in exchange for $500,000 and a resignation from the psychiatric hospital.
Alex was later adopted by a wealthy British couple but eventually got stripped of her adoptive name and placed in an orphanage when she started to develop mental health problems. Drake bounced around foster homes and orphanages for a large portion of her childhood and, on her tenth birthday, ran away from the Ambrose Home for Wayward Children.
- She later obtained a job bartending where she met Wren Kingston, Spencer Hastings’ ex-boyfriend.
- After originally mistaking her for Spencer, Wren and Alex began a romantic relationship.
- After Wren told Alex about her blood relations to the Hastings and DiLaurentis families, Alex even met her half-sister Charlotte.
The two grew extremely close, and after Charlotte was murdered, Alex took over her reign as “A” to find the culprit.
Why did Aria join the A-team?
Plot – Rosewood P.D. officers confiscate the Liars ‘ personal stuff and cellphones through search warrants, Enraged, Spencer heads to the station to understand what’s going on, and discovers that Detective Tanner is now handling the Dunhill case. Tanner expresses her concern about the possibility of the Liars being involved in the case, and indirectly threatens Spencer, saying that she always found them guilty of something, just did not know of what exactly.
After her phone was taken, Aria discovers another one hidden inside an air duct that ‘A.D.’ left to communicate with her. Aria claims to meet ‘A.D.’ since she is a reliable person, and the tormentor sets a date, as long as Aria wears her uniform. In a room of The Radley, given by Hanna’s mother, the Liars and Caleb get together to discuss the Dunhill’s murder when the board game begins a new round: “Choose or Lose”.
The Liars have to choose one of them to go to jail accused of the murder or all of them go. Mona arrives shortly thereafter and warns the girls that she thinks Aria is on the ‘A.D.’ team. The girls initially don’t believe, but Mona exhibits evidence and a recording of Aria and ‘A.D.’, leaving them in panic.
- Detective Tanner finds pieces of a windshield in the drain of Spencer’s bathroom with traces of blood.
- At night, Aria goes to the meeting place which ‘A.D.’ has set on.
- However, the tormentor doesn’t show up and Aria is caught by the Liars, who are devastated when Aria says that she needed to protect Ezra, so she joined ‘A.D.’ Aria explains that, six years earlier, after Ezra revealed to be writing a book about Alison, she filed a complaint against Ezra, but never reported it, and somehow ‘A.D.’ had access to it, threatening her right after.
Tanner calls Alison asking for their presence at the station, and the girls leave Aria alone in the woods. At the police station, Tanner gives the girls a chance to tell their side of the story, but Spencer denies the opportunity. Again, the girls leave Aria alone, punishing her for destroying Alison and Emily’s nursery and for tearing Spencer’s family apart.
- The next morning, Spencer goes to Ezra’s apartment to talk to Aria, giving her a photo of them as teens, before Alison’s disappearance,
- They try to reconcile, but Tanner and her convoy appear suddenly, returning Aria’s things and saying they found footage of Aria outside of Rosewood on the day of Archer’s death, sparing her of any charges.
Spencer leaves the apartment angrily. Ashley is still worried about Hanna and that she might be in trouble. However, this fades when Caleb and Hanna get married at the courthouse with Ashley as a witness. Emily and Alison have sex during an improvised picnic prepared by Alison.
Aria tells Ezra she has something to tell to him, but claims she needs to kiss him one last time, since this secret could ruin them. Spencer visits Toby in his cabin and they have sex. While investigating, Caleb and Ezra find the cell tower location from which the game phone has been sending signals, and later discover that they are being sent from Mona’s house.
While leaving to find Spencer, Aria hears a loud noise in the back of her car and opens the trunk to find Archer’s body. A cop arrives right after.
Why was A after Alison?
A Complete History of A on Pretty Little Liars – PLL A Since Pretty Little Liars premiered in 2010, the girls have been terrorized by a series of shadowy figures going only by the letter A. First there was Mona, who used her time as A to enact revenge on Alison for making her high-school years a living hell, then there was CeCe/Charlotte, who was upset with the entire DiLaurentis family for locking her away in Radley.
What illness does Mona have?
Season 2 – Mona’s revelation as an antagonist received positive to mixed reviews from critics. She becomes romantically involved with Noel Kahn, much to Hanna’s disapproval, but is later dumped by him for Jenna Marshall. She and Hanna eventually become best friends again and Mona tries to become accepting of Caleb.
When “A” begins sending threatening notes to Mona, she grows closer to the Liars and becomes a part of their group. In ” Unmasked “, Mona is still helping the Liars, who haven’t fully accepted her yet, and volunteers to drive Spencer out to the Lost Woods Resort where they find “A’s” lair. Here, it is revealed that “A” is actually Mona herself, who claims that she became “A” because of the Liars taking Hanna away from her and never doing anything to prevent Alison’s bullying.
She and Spencer get into a fight near a cliff and Mona is accidentally pushed off. She survives, however, and is committed to the Radley Sanitarium, after being diagnosed with multiple personality disorder. Here, she is approached by someone, who wants to start a partnership and form an “A” Team.
Does Ezra and Aria have A baby?
Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists – After the second episode it was revealed that Aria and Ezra adopted a baby girl who they named Katherine Ella. It was also revealed that Aria’s first book will turn into a movie which will feature Reese Witherspoon,
Did Ezra sleep with Alison
“Pretty Little Liars” has always been a disturbing teen drama, the kind that makes people say “It’s on ABC Family ?” After all, it centers around four high school girls (Aria, Spencer, Hannah and Emily) solving the mystery behind the disappearance and possible murder of their friend, Alison.
- There’s also violence; multiple stalkers; and a memorable scene in which a character is knocked unconscious at the dentist and wakes up to find a threatening note wedged between her teeth.
- Despite the gore, it’s addictive for teens and older fans alike — the series does incredibly well for the network, and is always a top-tweeted show of the week,
But as the show starts its fifth season on Tuesday night, it’s time to question one of the creepiest aspects of the hit show that has increased over time: The underage relationships. When, exactly, is the series going to stop featuring male authority figures who unabashedly hit on or sleep with the female high school students? If last season was any indication, not anytime soon.
In fact, one of the main storylines since show’s pilot has been the complicated, scandalous relationship between Aria and her English teacher, Ezra (or Mr. Fitz, to the students he’s not dating). This past winter, Season 4 kicked things up a notch: Not only was it implied that Ezra once dated Alison — a 15-year-old girl — back when he was in college, but two other characters also had incidents with older guys — one a detective and the other a sober coach from rehab.
Ick factor: exponentially increased. Though it never explicitly mentions the issues of legality on the show, the writers carefully walk the line. The main characters are in their later high school years, and the series is set in Pennsylvania where the real-life age of consent is 16.
- Ezra and Alison “didn’t do anything,” and in fact she lied about her age when they first met at a bar; he dumped her when he found she wasn’t 21.
- Hanna was the one who kissed the detective who was flirting with her all season; after the kiss, he backed off.
- And while Spencer’s sober coach obviously had a crush on her, Spencer’s mom fired him when she found them curled up on the sofa together.
Still, the fact that all of those relationships progressed to that level in the first place: Ew, That’s not even including the Ezra-Aria relationship, which has always drawn backlash over the fact that he’s a teacher attracted to his student. ( Sample perspective : “I can’t get behind a romance that, if consummated, would be statutory rape.”) That plot actually took a more sinister turn at the end of last season when it was revealed that Ezra actually knew exactly who Aria was when he met her — and made out with her — right before her sophomore year in high school.
- She didn’t know he was her English teacher; yet he targeted her because he knew she was friends with Alison, and he was writing a book about her disappearance.
- Obviously, no show — especially a soapy teen drama — wants to deal with the minutiae of the legal issues of consent, as this is all make-believe.
The executive producer noted that in Pennsylvania, there’s a law that makes it illegal for a 16-year-old to be with someone over the age of 21 if that person is a teacher. So, Aria and Ezra didn’t sleep together until he quit his job at the high school.
- Gross, but fine, they’ve got it on a technicality.
- The bigger problem is the horrible message this all sends to younger viewers.
- That is, the message that high school students hooking up with male authority figures, such as teachers or police detectives? It’s great! Sexy, even.
- Their fans — the show heavily targets the female age 12-34 demographic — call them “Ezria” and hope and pray every season that the roller coaster relationship will reach a happy conclusion.
“These two are like magnets who attract each other for hopefully the run of the show because I think they are soulmates,” creator I. Marlene King declared, Some viewers are even rooting for Hanna and her detective kissing buddy. Even worse: Although forbidden/illegal romance is a common TV trope, it’s usually just a one-time storyline, maybe during sweeps.
- But the fact that “Pretty Little Liars” has decided to make this a frequent occurrence — enough that if you see an attractive, mid-to-late 20s man approach one of the characters, you just assume it’s only a matter of time before they make out — is just wrong.
- Ultimately, the show has always leaned heavily into the idea of their characters falling for older guys: The girls’ nemesis, Jenna, dated a cop (seriously, Rosewood, Pa., has got to do something about its character tests for law enforcement).
Meanwhile, Spencer has hooked up with two of her sisters’ older boyfriends. And sure, maybe it’s dull for the writers to have the characters just date the boys at their high school. There’s no real drama there. But you know what’s more important than not being boring? Not being really creepy — hopefully, that’s where the show is headed in Season 5.
Why is Ezra after Alison?
Plot – The episode opens with paramedics loading Ezra into an ambulance. Noel is being questioned by the police. Noel claims that he heard the gunshot and ran to the rooftop and found Ezra shot. Emily, Spencer and Hanna hold Aria back since they can do nothing to help Ezra and if Aria gets too close, she’ll be spending the night at the police station answering questions.
Afraid of being seen on the street, Alison watches from the balcony above, where she notices someone in a black hoodie lying on top of the ambulance as it drives away. At the hospital, Ezra is taken into surgery, while someone in a hooded figure watches on. Back on the streets, the girls have brought a burner phone and pepper spray.
Emily is afraid that “A” will try to hurt Alison if they execute the plan they have come up with to keep ‘A’ away from Ezra. But Alison wants to go ahead with their plain since Ezra saved their lives and he is the only one who knows who ‘A’ is. Aria tells Emily that everything will finally over when Ezra pulls through and tells them who “A” is, but Emily is skeptical.
Hanna calls the police with the burner phone, telling them that Ezra’a shooting wasn’t a random thing and he needs protection. With the first step of their plan executed, the girls split up with Aria and Alison heading one way and Spencer, Hanna and Emily heading in another. Hanna hands A’s gun over to Aria as they leave.
Emily is worried about Alison but Spencer and Hanna try to convince her that Alison has been hiding from ‘A’ in plain sight for the past 2 years and can take care of herself. At the Hastings house, Veronica is on the phone with Ashley. She asks Ashley to call if she hears from Hanna and assures her that they’ll do the same.
Melissa is shocked that Spencer knew all this time that Alison is alive. Veronica wants to believe that Spencer only found about Alison, a month ago as claimed by the photo CeCe showed Holbrook since it was around that time that Spencer’s erratic behavior started. Melissa blames Alison for all the things that have gone wrong in Spencer’s life but Veronica wants to reserve judgment since they have no idea what Alison’s been through.
Melissa thinks that Alison is a “time bomb” but it’s everything around her that explodes and everyone around her ends up getting hurt. Melissa can’t believe Alison would let her friends and family think that she was dead. Melissa wants to tell Veronica something, but before she can, the police arrive at their front door.
Exiting the subway, Aria is confused about how Ezra found them. Alison tells Aria she thinks Ezra was following ‘A’, and ‘A’ was following the Liars. Alison tells her that the only reason Ezra was looking for Alison was to win back Aria, but Aria doesn’t want to talk about him since he may not even be alive.
Holbrook tells the Hastings that CeCe escaped custody. Holbrook thinks that since CeCe knows Alison is alive and the girls’ location, Spencer could be in danger. He asks the family if there’s anything else he should know. Melissa almost opens her mouth to say something but is stopped by Peter.
He says there is nothing else that they have to say. Mona is at The Brew watching a news report saying that authorities are searching for the girls including Alison who was thought to be dead. Suddenly someone arrives and she says to them that Alison being alive changes everything. Someone dressed in black and wearing a doctor’s coat tries to make their way to Ezra’s operation theatre but cops show up there and the person turns around and leaves.
Spencer, Emily and Hanna arrive at the hospital and spot the same hooded person. They head to the waiting room and sit down, pretending to read magazines. Aria and Alison also enter the hospital and rush to a nurse’s station, asking about Ezra. The person in the black hoodie is watching Spencer, Emily and Hanna in the waiting room.
Suddenly, over the PA system, Alison is asked to report to the emergency room. The hooded person sends a group text reading: “It’s happening. Follow the leader.” Aria tells Alison to leave. The hooded figure goes into an elevator to pursue Alison and Emily, Spencer and Hanna follow. They watch on as the elevator closes with the hooded person in it and take the stairs.
Alison leaves via the emergency exit. The hooded person follows Alison through the streets of New York to a playground where Alison hides herself, when suddenly from behind the hooded figure appears saying, “Want to play?” Spencer, Emily and Hanna show up, thinking that they’ve outsmarted ‘A’ and Alison pepper sprays the person.
But suddenly dozens of other hooded people wearing masks arrive and start circling the four girls. The arrival of a passing police car chases them off. Meanwhile, Aria is alone at the hospital, waiting for Ezra’s surgery to get completed. Aria overhears the doctor call Ezra’s mother and tells her that the bullet has been removed and that he survived surgery.
Back in Rosewood, Mona is on the phone with someone, telling them to stay on top of this and that they are mobilizing. She gets off the phone and tells someone that the girls are not in Philadelphia, but in New York. The person turns out to be Lucas. Lucas says that there were supposed to be more people here and Mona assures him they’re coming.
At the Hastings residence, Melissa says to her father that she needs to tell Holbrook the truth, thinking that if Spencer knew the truth she would have a reason to come back home. Peter tells her that Veronica must never know what Melissa told Peter. Holbrook gets a call from the NYPD, telling him about Ezra’s shooting.
Holbrook jumps online and starts looking at Ezra’s records. Aria is on the phone and updates the girls on Ezra. Aria says that since his mother’s in Sydney and she’s the only one there for him. The girls offer to come to the hospital but Aria thinks that the five of them together would look weird.
- Emily thinks Alison is the target now if ‘A’ can’t get to Ezra.
- They need a place to stay safe for the night as Ezra won’t wake up for hours and so Alison takes the girls to the Fitzgerald Theater.
- In a flashback, Alison recalls the first time she visited the theater with Ezra.
- Ezra claimed that a friend of the family worked at the theater and so they got to come there after hours.
Alison talks about it must feel to stand there on the stage and be loved by so many people. She thinks that she can be an actress, to which Ezra replies that she already is since she narrates all her made-up stories which such conviction that it almost seems like she herself believes them.
- Just then, a janitor calls him Mr.
- Fitzgerald which is when Alison realized Ezra is rich.
- According to Alison, the theater doesn’t open until noon the next day and so they should be safe there.
- They go to the concession stand to eat something since Spencer is hungry.
- Hanna, Spencer and Emily start talking about a TV show they are obsessed about, making Alison feel left out.
Alison excuses herself to call a few friends and tell them she’s okay since they’ve risked a lot to help her. Hanna follows Alison to try and listen to her call. Shana arrives at the hospital waiting room. She tells Aria that Alison sent her there to make sure Aria was okay, but Aria doesn’t like it and thinks she doesn’t need someone to watch her.
Shana is determined to stay. Later that night as Alison is asleep, Spencer thinks that Alison’s already shutting them out again, but Emily says that if they were the ones who helped her, they’d want Alison to call them. Spencer thinks that they are the ones who risked a lot to help Alison. The girls then talk about the potential of having a life without “A”.
Hanna says that she wouldn’t mind taking up a sport, like field hockey. Spencer says that all she cared about was winning before and now all she wants is to be happy. Back at the hospital, Aria has fallen asleep. Shana picks up Aria’s jacket, drapes it over her and walks away.
Later, as the four girls are asleep, somebody enters the theater. A gloved hand is placed over Alison’s mouth. It turns out to be CeCe. Ali is surprised that CeCe found her. CeCe tells Alison that they don’t just look alike, they think alike as well. Alison thinks that CeCe took a big risk coming to New York.
CeCe says that she didn’t have a choice since she needs Alison’s help. Meanwhile, at the Rosewood police station, Holbrook is researching Ezra and finds out that Ezra is actually a Fitzgerald. Alison and CeCe are at a diner, meeting up with Noel. Noel hands over to CeCe Alison’s fake passport and ticket along with some money.
- Alison is upset because this might be the last time she sees CeCe.
- CeCe assures her that they’ll find each other again and they hug.
- CeCe thanks her and leaves.
- Aria wakes up and is told Ezra is in recovery.
- She finds Shana standing at his bedside.
- Ezra starts to wake, but his vitals plummet when he sees Shana.
As doctors rush in to stabilize him, Shana sneaks out. Alison returns to the theater and finds Emily awake. Alison tells her that there are some things she doesn’t need to know about but Emily isn’t satisfied. Alison leads Emily away from the other girls.
Mona addresses a group of people that includes Paige. The group has one thing in common: Alison mistreated them. Paige tells Mona that she’s not scared of Alison anymore and that they are not what Alison used to call them. Mona retorts that Alison isn’t even back yet and she found a way to break up Paige and Emily.
Paige tries to leave but Mona warns her that she can’t protect Paige if she’s not a part of this. As Paige opens the door, Melissa walks in, seemingly in charge of the operation, prompting Paige to stay. Away from the other girls, Alison tells Emily that Ezra was paying CeCe for information.
CeCe was never redcoat and in fact dressed as red coat, in Ravenswood, to distract ‘A’ so that Alison could turn off the saw and save Emily’s life. Alison says that she can’t share this with the other girls since CeCe killed a cop (Wilden) for her and if CeCe is caught boarding the plane, Alison will be an accessory as its Alison’s face on the passport.
Now that Emily knows about it, she’s an accessory too. Suddenly, Hanna and Spencer walk in, saying that they can’t hear Aria on the phone. Alison says that Aria should call the houseline. Holbrook finds the Fitzgerald Theater website online. He calls the number for the theater and Alison answers, thinking its Aria.
- She hangs up when Holbrook recognizes her voice.
- Holbrook calls the NYPD and advises them to send an officer to the Fitzgerald Theater.
- Aria tries to call the girls but they’re now too scared to answer the phone.
- Seeing the cop in Ezra’s room leave, Aria returns to Ezra’s side and takes his hand.
- He whispers something into her ear and she rushes out of his hospital room.
Spencer and Hanna suggest that since Ezra is unable to tell them who ‘A’ is, Alison should use the passport and ticket that Noel gave her and leave. Alison admits that she gave them away to somebody who needed it more than her. Hanna and Spencer are furious that Alison is keeping secrets again and think no one needs to get out of the country more than Alison.
The girls realize they need to leave and rush to the stage to gather their stuff. Suddenly the lights go off. When the lights come back on, Shana arrives holding a gun. Shana admits that she was the one who set fire to the lodge and locked them in, but Alison arrived late, foiling her plan. Shana says she found out who Alison really was when she was sent to Rosewood, by Alison, to ask questions.
Shana was shocked by what she found out about Alison from the people she had hurt and that even Jessica was afraid of Alison. The girls tell her that she’s sick, like Mona, but they can get her help. Shana says this is not a game to her and she’s there for justice for what Alison had done to Jenna, whom she is in love with.
Alison tries to convince her that Jenna is using her, but Shana tells her that that’s what Alison does. She tells them that Jenna doesn’t even know Shana’s here. Aria sneaks up behind Shana and ends up knocking her down into the orchestra pit. Blood pools from her head- Shana’s dead. The girls try to assure Aria that she did what she had to do.
They all believe it’s finally over. Spencer calls the police to report an accident. Meanwhile, CeCe boards the plane to Paris using Alison’s passport and ticket with the name Vivian Darkbloom. In the last scene of the episode, three police officers arrive at the Theater and discover Shana’s body.

Who was Alison’s body in Pretty Little Liars?
Bethany Young is a major posthumous antagonist in the television series ‘Pretty Little Liars’. Bethany was a patient at Radley Sanitarium and is revealed as both the girl buried in Alison’s grave and the murderer of Marion Cavanaugh.
Who died instead of Alison in Pretty Little Liars
Biography – Bethany Young was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. She was a troubled girl that suffered from numerous violent behavioral outbursts. She was later institutionalized by her parents at Radley Sanitarium, While in Radley, Bethany befriended Charlotte DiLaurentis,
She was supportive of Charlotte as a transgender girl and kept her secret. One night, Charlotte and Bethany snuck onto the roof of Radley Sanitarium. They discussed running away from the Sanitarium, to which Bethany explained that running away was easy – it was staying gone that was the hard part. Charlotte was wearing and spun in a yellow dress, which Bethany complimented her on.
Moments later, Marion Cavanaugh walked onto the roof. Charlotte asked Bethany for help as the fallout of Marion seeing her in a dress wouldn’t be good. Bethany agreed and went to speak with Marion. Moments later, Bethany pushed Marion off the roof, which killed her.
A shocked Charlotte asked Bethany what she had done, and Bethany turned on her and blamed her for pushing Marion. She called her a freak and when questioned by the Sanitarium employees and police, lied and said that Charlotte pushed Marion. Charlotte was incorrectly diagnosed with an intermittent explosive disorder, which was a more accurate diagnosis for Bethany.
She was later introduced to Jessica DiLaurentis who, at the time, was on the board of the sanitarium. Jessica often took her out on day trips. On one occasion, Jessica took Bethany to a stable in Harrisburg. This is where Jessica purchased Bethany a horse named Custard.
- Jessica insisted that Bethany call her Aunt Jessie.
- Bethany was angered by Jessica’s comment and proceeded to throw a bucket at the woman.
- Afterward, Bethany discovered Jessica was having an affair with her father and that Custard was a hush present.
- Bethany was outraged and expressed her anger by drawing Jessica with devil horns or other crude images or words around the woman.
Her anger was so distinguishable that many patients, including recently transitioned Charlotte, heard about Bethany’s obsession with Jessica. Bethany’s unconscious body On September 1st, 2009, Bethany stole Charlotte ‘s clothes and snuck out of Radley under Charlotte’s identity. Because Charlotte had out privileges, no one questioned Bethany when she left. She wanted to hurt Jessica because of her affair with Mr.
- Young. She made it to the DiLaurentis’ back yard when she was spotted by Mona Vanderwaal, who mistook Bethany for Alison DiLaurentis, due to their matching clothes and blonde hair.
- Mona struck Bethany over the head with a shovel and fled the scene.
- Bethany’s unconscious body was found by Melissa Hastings, who also believed Bethany was Alison.
Melissa had seen her sister, Spencer Hastings, fighting with Alison earlier that night, and thought Spencer had hit Alison. Melissa pushed Bethany’s body into a shallow grave, unaware that she was not Alison. Unbeknownst to Melissa, Bethany was still alive.
- Bethany’s body was found a year later when builders knocked down a gazebo and discovered a female body.
- The autopsy report falsely identified her as Alison DiLaurentis after an unknown person switched Alison and Bethany’s dental records.
- When the police discovered that Alison was alive, the Rosewood PD exhumed the grave to properly identify their Jane Doe.
In a televised press conference, it was announced to the public by the Rosewood chief of police that the body had been identified as Bethany Young.
Who killed Alison in pretty little liar?
About – On the night of Alison DiLaurentis ‘ disappearence, Spencer picked up the shovel whilst fighting with Alison in the DiLaurentis backyard and attempted to attack her with it but ultimately failed. Alison and Spencer made up and Spencer went back to the barn whilst dragging the shovel behind her, which Melissa saw.
- Later that night, Alison was hit in the back of the head with a rock by Charlotte DiLaurentis and buried alive underneath the gazebo construction site by Jessica DiLaurentis who was under the impression she was dead and was protecting Charlotte.
- Alison was pulled out of her grave by Carla Grunwald, however.
Soon after, Bethany Young wandered onto the DiLaurentis backyard, and Mona Vanderwaal hit her in the back of the head with the shovel, thinking she hit Alison. The force of the weapon was so strong it dented Bethany’s skull and she was rendered unconscious.
- Shortly after, Melissa Hastings walked through the DiLaurentis backyard and saw Bethany’s unconscious body laying on the ground with a bloody gash on the back of her head next to the empty grave.
- She believed it was Alison as they were wearing the same outfit and both had curled blonde hair.
- Melissa saw the shovel next to her and thought Spencer had attacked Alison with it and killed her.
She pushed Bethany into the grave and covered her up, unaware that she was not Alison nor was she dead, unknowingly killing her by burying her alive with the shovel. Afterwards, the shovel was somehow obtained by ” A,”

She later mentions to him that her friends thought he had nice legs and that she felt embarrassed and awkward. He invites her to dinner at his place to talk and she accepts. The tension is evident in the classroom the next day when Mr. Fitz defends Aria’s opinion related to the assigned reading to a student (Sperling) who disagrees with Aria, unprofessionally accusing him of not having attempted to understand the book. Later, at his apartment, Aria calls Ezra out on such unacceptable behavior, and he agrees it was not his finest hour. Hardy disapproves of Ezra’s relationship In ” Reality Bites Me,” Ezra invites Aria to a poetry reading, where he will be showing off his work. There, Aria meets Hardy, who can tell that she is there to support Ezra. Aria explains that she is his student. Later, Ezra takes Hardy’s comments to heart; he mocks Aria that she will find out what college guys are like when she gets to college after she asks if all college guys are like Hardy. They discuss their relationship, whether it is right or wrong and if it should continue. “A” is not a friend In ” There’s No Place Like Homecoming,” Aria is depressed over the breakup. Her friends come over to cheer her up, thinking she is depressed because her parents are fighting. She tries to talk to Ezra in the halls at school, but he brushes her off, late for a staff meeting. Later, Ezra sees Aria dancing with Sean and walks away looking disappointed. She spots him and follows after him down the hall away from the dance. She tells him that she knows it’s over, but she can’t stand the idea of him hating her. Ezra says he could never hate her. Aria misses Ezra When flowers are delivered to Aria in ” The Homecoming Hangover,” she hopes they are from Ezra and is disappointed and a bit perturbed they are from Sean. Aria tries to get a hold of Ezra many times, but he is unreachable. She tries his cell and house phone, asks the substitute when he might be back and even goes to his apartment to check on him.
She uses the key under the mat to get inside just in time to hear a message from a school in New York confirming a job interview. She sulks in her room reading a book he inscribed for her. Ezra is nowhere to be found in ” Please, Do Talk About Me When I’m Gone,” but Aria still thinks about him every moment.
Hanna convinces her to go on a double date with her, Sean, and Noel Kahn, a guy Aria had a crush on years ago. Noel asks her about the boy back in Iceland Hanna filled him in on. Aria explains that she is still hung up on him, meaning Ezra, and is hoping things will work out, even though it doesn’t seem likely at this point. Ezra returns Aria has been getting closer to Noel lately. She turns down his offer for a date in ” The Perfect Storm,” but still sneaks away from the SAT with him to the music room where they almost kiss. Ezra returns from his trip to New York at this exact moment, soaking wet from being in the rain and looking dejected at the sight of Aria with Noel.
They speak privately for a few moments. He explains he went to New York to deal with his “issues” and had time to think about the consequences of their relationship. He says things need to change. Aria says they already have and walks out holding back tears. Later, Ezra chats with Ella in a school storage closet.
She says she is glad Aria has an adult in her life she can admire, causing Ezra to reevaluate his feelings once again. “A” – an Ezria fan? In ” Keep Your Friends Close,” Ezra watches Aria talk to then kiss Noel. He asks if Noel plays football and Aria starts defending Noel, saying he’s really smart and loves old movies. Ezra says she is entitled to be with whoever she wants to be with, but he is clearly not thrilled seeing her with someone else. She is sick of his mixed signals and angry with him for letting her believe he didn’t love her. He tries to tell her he was trying to do the right thing, but she won’t have it. Noel catches the tail end of their conversation and asks what’s going on. Aria says absolutely nothing is going on and walks out. “Forgive me” While Aria is at Mona’s birthday party, Ezra texts her, “I need to see you.” He pulls up in the woods and Aria gets in his car. He tries to explain why he was looking for a new job. It wasn’t to leave her, it was to make it possible for them to be together.
When he saw her with Noel, he decided to let it be and give her a chance at a normal relationship. She calls him a jerk and tells him off for making decisions that weren’t his to make. He asks her to forgive him. She refuses. He gets closer and asks again. She can’t resist him any longer and the two kiss passionately.
Little do they know, someone is watching. The next day, in ” Moments Later,” Aria meets Ezra outside his apartment. He spotted the writing on the back of his car that morning and is understandably concerned someone saw them together last night. Aria insists it doesn’t mean anything and wipes the writing away with her shirt sleeve.
Later, Aria waits for him in his empty classroom. He agrees the writing on the window was probably nothing. They talk about their complicated relationship and discuss whether it would be better had they never seen each other in the bar that first day. Aria admits he makes her miserable sometimes, but not unhappy, and she would not go back and change things if she had the opportunity.
He agrees. Ezra wants them to “move forward, together.” In ” Salt Meets Wound,” Aria admits she knows who is responsible for writing on the car – Noel Kahn. She tells Ezra Noel promised not to say anything about what he saw. However, later that day, Noel tries to extort a higher grade on his essay out of Mr. “I love you.” Noel threatens Mr. Fitz to change his grade again in ” Know Your Frenemies,” Noel comes this close to exposing his relationship with Aria until Mr. Fitz seems to give in, but when he returns to pick up his A paper, he finds it is still a C and makes it clear he will follow through with his threat. She drives straight to Ezra’s apartment and finds him drinking and looking disheveled. She insists on knowing what happened today. Ezra clasps her hands and says he refuses to change Noel’s grade, but whatever happens tomorrow, she has to know how he feels about her. Saved by “A” The next day, Ezra stands in his empty classroom preparing to resign. He exchanges a wistful look with Aria while walking down the hall. The principal, along with a security guard, is escorting Noel to his locker where the stolen answers to 3 midterms are found. Aria’s old babysitter, and published author, Simone, comes to Rosewood for a visit in ” Careful What U Wish 4,” Ella arranges for her to talk to the English classes at Rosewood high. Ella also arranges for her to have coffee with Ezra because he is “very single and very handsome.” Aria doesn’t love the idea, but she can’t exactly object. Ezra and Simone At the dance-a-thon, Simone and Ezra chat by the coat room. Aria walks up and Simone tells an embarrassing story about how Aria used to sleep with a cookie monster doll. Later, Aria sees them together again, this time on the dance floor, and jealousy takes over.
She marches up to them and demands, “We have to talk.” Spencer sees what is happening and intervenes, asking Mr. Fitz to dance, giving Aria a chance to cool off. Outside, in the parking lot, Aria says that Ezra would be better off with Simone, who is smart, pretty, and accomplished, and sheds a tear. Ezra replies, saying that he is in love with someone already, meaning Aria.
He moves in to kiss her, but backs up, knowing that anybody could see them in the school parking lot. Ezria in public at last In ” If At First You Don’t Succeed, Lie, Lie Again,” under the guise of asking him to “look over her assignment,” Aria seductively confronts Ezra with two tickets to a gallery exhibit in Philadelphia tomorrow night. “A” intercepts the information and gives Hanna a ticket to pass along to Ella to ensure Aria and Ezra get caught.
- Reluctantly, Hanna complies.
- When Aria goes to Ezra’s apartment, decked out in heels and a red dress, ready for their date, she can’t find him.
- Then Ezra pulls up in a limo, commenting on how good she looks and why a limo is much better than the train.
- The driver opens the door for Aria allowing her to get close to Ezra in the backseat.
The two spend a romantic outing in Philadelphia, pleased they don’t have to conceal their kisses and hand holding in public. The next day, Aria tells Hanna it was one of the best nights of her life. Evidently, Ella never made it to the opening. Buzzkill Parent-teacher conferences take place in ” The New Normal,” Aria tells Ezra he has nothing to worry about meeting her dad even though he is worried about the complexity of the situation. His meeting with Byron does not go well because Byron is under the impression Ezra may be interested in his wife. Awkward working relationship In ” The Badass Seed,” Aria ambushes Ezra with the idea of making her stage manager for the school play he is directing, called “The Bad Seed.” Though initially uncertain, he is powerless against her persuasive arguments and agrees.
- He is also unsure about making plans with her father.
- She, however, likes the idea of them getting to know one another, hoping her dad sees how special he is.
- Aria mentions how she’d like her friends to see how special he is as well, lying that she hasn’t told them about their relationship.
- He says they like him just fine; as a matter of fact, he just cast them in the play.
Aria is excited she will get to spend so much time with him on and off-campus working on the play. Aria is a little too eager to help though, and slips up, calling him “Ezra” in front of everyone. She realizes her mistake and hopes no one picks up on it, but it’s clear they do. In that same episode, Ezra goes for drinks with Byron, There Byron mentions that Aria is already “applying to colleges in California,” giving Ezra pause, and that Ezra should consider teaching at the college level where he would have more time for his writing. Kiss and make up Tensions rise when a conflict over scheduling causes Aria to admit becoming stage manager was not the best idea. She offers to find a replacement. Then they delve deeper into Ezra’s comments earlier about leaving Rosewood, He says that their futures may not be linked, causing Aria to step back, bewildered.
She explains she was only looking at one college in California, in Ezra’s favorite city, where they could move together. She expects them to have a future, while Ezra is not as certain. She stops by his place later to make her feelings known – the future is uncertain, so they should enjoy what they have now.
He seems to agree with the sentiment. “Welcome home, honey.” In ” A Person of Interest,” Aria walks in on Ezra talking to Jenna about a short story she is entering into a writing competition. Aria pretends not to know much about the incident which caused her blindness. She arranges to meet him at his place later to cook. “It doesn’t change anything.” Aria talks to Emily who encourages her to tell Fitz the truth about The Jenna Thing if she trusts him. After two hours of pacing his block, she finally builds up enough courage to go talk to him. Tears trickle down her face while she explains that he may never look at her the same way again once she says what she’s about to say. In ” Someone to Watch Over Me,” Aria accidentally sends a text meant for Ezra to her mom. Knowing Ella is watching, and that the cops might be searching her room, she gathers up all the mementos of her relationship with Ezra (except a book he inscribed to her – it’s too special), and gives them to Emily for safekeeping. She doesn’t tell him about the close call. In ” Monsters in the End,” Aria catches up with Ezra in the hall to ask him about their plans for the upcoming Founder’s Day Festival. Just then, Aria spots Ella walking by, so she purposefully knocks the coffee out of his hand and ducks down to avoid being seen. Later, Aria finds out that Ezra has an ex-fiancée named Jackie Molina, having seen a picture of the two of them on his laptop. Aria is quite shocked by the photo and thinks he may be leading a double, er, triple life. She asks her friends for advice, and almost gives in to stalking Jackie online, but instead decides to be direct and ask him about it.
She feels that he knows everything about her, but he hasn’t shared as much about himself. Ezra explains that yes, he was once engaged. They dated throughout college, he proposed in Italy, she accepted, but later broke it off. Aria is not thrilled to hear he wasn’t the one to break it off, realizing they could easily be married right now.
Ezra reassures her that Jackie is his past and she is his present. This seems to satisfy her and they continue their movie marathon. Later, Aria decides to have some fun. She drew faces on some paper bags and has them wear them over their heads to pose for a photo. They, of course, cannot take real photos together, in case they were found. Aria gets a text from Emily and leaves in a hurry.
We see Officer Garrett standing outside Ezra’s door, probably seeing Aria exiting his apartment. He knocks on the door and asks to come in, spying the paper bags and a girl’s scarf strewn on the sofa. The episode then ends with Garret saying “I’d like to talk to you about one of your students.” We then see an unknown person take the spare key to his house from under his welcome mat.
Could this be the end of Ezria? In ” For Whom the Bell Tolls,” Aria gets 10 text messages from Ezra saying that a cop was at his house and he needs to talk to her. Aria anxiously rushes to school to find out what’s going on, fearing the worst when he says he just met with the principal.
Smiling, he says he just turned in his resignation because “Hollis offered me the job.” Aria punches him in the shoulder because she was certain they’d been caught. Ezra apologizes, explaining the cop was there to ask about Spencer, the trophy, props, etc. The real news is how happy he is he and Aria will be able to be seen out in public together, at a coffee shop, or a poetry reading – they don’t always have to be looking over their shoulder anymore.
He informs her that he’ll be attending the faculty mixer at her house tonight. She offers to give him the tour, suggestively offering to show him her room. At the mixer, Aria answers the door to face none other than Ezra’s ex-fiancée, Jackie Molina, who explains that she works at Hollis. Aria, taken by surprise, leaves Jackie standing at the door and storms off. Ezra spots her leave and sees Jackie at the door, realizing why Aria might be upset.
Alone in her room, she tells him that she can’t help but think that he still has feelings for Jackie. Ezra says that he didn’t know she would be there; he hasn’t seen her since last summer and she was just a TA back then. Aria points out that up until then, Ezra was the only guy who had never lied to her.
Disheartened, Aria leaves him standing in her bedroom, speechless.
” | I’m in love with your daughter. I love Aria. | ” |
Ezra tries to win back Aria’s love Noel has returned in ” It’s Alive,” much to all the Pretty Little Liars’ chagrin. After the Pretty Little Liars return to school after the Ian-church bell incident, Ezra beckons Aria to speak privately in the classroom. That day after school, Aria does decide to make an appearance at Ezra’s place. There, shirtless Ezra assures Aria he believes she and her friends are telling the truth about the Ian incident. He offers his support to Aria. She says she feels like things have changed.
Ezra says she can ask him anything and Aria is curious to hear more details about Jackie. He tells her Jackie wasn’t ready for a commitment and assures Aria that she is not a rebound, but cannot bring himself to lie and say he wasn’t still in love with Jackie when he first met Aria. He promises he was never thinking about anyone else while they were together.
Ezra asks her to spend the rest of the day, like they usually do, but Aria declines. She tells him she’s spending Sunday with her family and that she’ll see him Monday. Outside, Aria receives a text, containing a picture of Ezra’s desk in his apartment. In ” The Goodbye Look,” at school, Aria is cold towards Ezra when he attempts to be friendly. She accuses him of not letting her know about his last day on the job being Friday, and not being clear enough about what to expect after he packs up his desk. Apologizing for being late Later, Aria gets a call from Ezra, while waiting for him in his apartment, as per their agreement. Ezra is stuck in a meeting with his new employers at Hollis College, surprised by how the long the meeting has gone. Aria is frustrated, thinking that this should have been anticipated, but she agrees to wait for Ezra in his apartment a while longer until he comes home. Growing more and more impatient, Aria starts pacing Ezra’s apartment trying to busy herself while she waits. She receives a text from him asking her to wait, and she rolls her eyes. After pacing restlessly for a while longer, she pens a letter to him explaining that she has decided that she just can’t make their relationship work. Goodbye Mr. Fitz! The next day in English class, Ezra uses his last moments with the Rosewood High students to give a parting speech. It is given to the whole class, but the innuendo is clearly intended for Aria alone, telling what an unexpected sense of loss he feels leaving and that he’ll never forgot their time together. After class, Aria does not approach Ezra right away, but silently broods over his words, remaining in school, while everyone else leaves. Suddenly, overcome with regret for letting him go, she rushes into his classroom, only to see it empty. She then catches sight of Ezra outside the window, packing up his car against the twilight. In ” My Name Is Trouble,” Aria enrolls in an extension course at the college where Ezra works. While on campus, Aria and Ezra revel in the fact that they can outwardly show their affection for each in public. (Although, doesn’t Byron work on campus at Hollis College too?) The two lovers share a kiss, not realizing that a stunned Jackie is eyeing them from across the way. In ” The Devil You Know,” Aria visits Ezra at Hollis. She sits perched on Ezra’s desk, cluing him in on the details of discovering Ian ‘s body. They are sharing an intimate moment, which is silently overheard by Jackie, who purposely barges into the office to break up their tête-à-tête.
Ezra awkwardly introduces Aria as a former student, and she explains she just stopped by on the way to her dad’s office. Jackie patronizingly calls Ezra by a nickname, probably to make Aria jealous and later remarks that “Mr. Fitz” should start letting “the girl” call him by his first name. After Jackie leaves, they discuss everything wrong with that little encounter.
Aria’s not crazy about the nickname “Z,” mentioning how her family used to call her Pookie Bear and don’t anymore, for good reason. Aria felt disappointed being introduced as a former student and Ezra felt demoted to a pit stop when she mentioned her dad. “I really needed a hug from you today.” Later, when Ezra shows up to the church for Ian’s funeral service, he is questioned about his attendance by Ella and Byron Montgomery, Ezra is at first forthcoming, admitting Aria invited him. However, he explains that it was to support his former students, all of them.
Aria is rebuffed, especially when her father acknowledges the gesture towards the “kids.” After the burial in the cemetery, Aria makes a comment about rounding up the entire student body so they can talk, chiding him for his earlier remarks. She wishes they could move forward and start being seen as a couple in public, but both know it’s not the time or the place for a big step like that.
Aria expresses her need for a hug, but all he can do is say he’ll call her later. In ” Surface Tension,” Byron gets the idea to invite Ezra and a plus one to their family dinner. Alarmed, Aria goes to Hollis to see Ezra. There she tries to talk him out of accepting her father’s dinner invitation, but he has already accepted and feels inclined to go. At dinner, Ezra comes over bringing flowers and scotch. He and Aria joke about the scotch, then Aria introduces him to her guests as “Ezra.” Jason brings a similar gesture, and Aria’s two suitors meet for the first time. Ezra notices Aria take a phone call upstairs. Ezra helps Aria clear the table and runs the dishwasher. He remarks how well he was doing tonight before they were interrupted. They joke about him practicing what to say in front of the mirror to impress her father. Ezra questions why Jason was invited tonight, expecting a more specific answer than he is Ali’s brother and Aria explains her mom and his mom are friends. In ” Save the Date,” Ezra pops in on Aria working in the Hollis College pottery studio. He puts his arms around her and jokes about the pottery wheel scene in Ghost, but she’s not in the mood. She flew past his apartment that morning in order to make sure her bowl gets put in the kiln. Aria just nods and picks up her finished piece and sets it on the shelf of pottery awaiting the kiln. Ezra picks up Jenna’s candle holder and compliments it. Aria lets him know who its artist is. He asks about patching things up with Jenna, but Aria has nothing to report.
Ezra asks why Aria hadn’t confided in him about Mike, and she replies because it was embarrassing. He reassures her she shouldn’t feel that way around him because he’s understanding. He invites her over for later that day, and she accepts the offer, telling him she’ll call him. During their conversation up until this point, Aria’s voice has been very subdued.
Ezra is about to leave but turns quickly on his heels and asks if Jason is a threat to him. Aria gives a little laugh and denies it. When he leaves, she doesn’t bother to turn her head to watch him go. Ezria talk, and Aria lies Later in the hospital, Ezra stops by after Aria did not call him. In the waiting room, Ezra and Aria talk. He asks if there’s anything he can do and invites Aria over if she could use company but before she responds, she gets a call from Jason. Stripping in Ezra’s office In ” Picture This,” after having conflicting sex dreams about herself with Ezra and Jason, Aria saunters into Ezra’s office, trying to fix her relationship and wash away her insecurities. She removes some layers until her bra and black lace top is revealed.
She props a chair in front of the door, then starts to kiss Ezra passionately. He mumbles something about having class in fifteen minutes, so Aria decides to make the best of the time they have. She wraps her legs around him and Ezra surrenders; they move to the couch. Later, Aria is waiting for Ezra in his office with snacks and sodas from the vending machine.
Ezra asks if anything is going on and Aria says she is just happy and wants to share the feeling. In ” Touched by an ‘A’-ngel,” Aria spots Ezra at the school college fair, but doesn’t approach him because Jackie is with him and obviously flirting. Later, he spots her at another booth and approaches her, feigning a hard sell for Hollis College, specifying how “hands on” the teachers there are, but she doesn’t play along.
She assures him she’s not mad at him, but she’s frustrated with the “outside forces” which are threatening their relationship. He assures her that he does not have feelings for Jackie and there is nothing to worry about, but in the process of explaining her feelings, she blurts out that Jason kissed her.
She doesn’t get a chance to explain because Jackie walks up enlisting ” Z ” to get some brochures out the car. He walks away, still shocked and dismayed by what Aria just told him. Ezra steps up After Spencer approaches Ezra with the information that she believes Jason to be dangerous, he pulls up to Jason’s house, where Aria is standing outside. He tells her he came to get her because Jason could be a threat. She assures him that Jason had a legitimate explanation for the photos.
Even so, he believes Jason to be a threat to their relationship. Aria had been pushing for them to go public, and Ezra finally seems to realize it may be the only way to keep their relationship afloat. He says that he doesn’t want to lose her and thinks they should inform her parents about their relationship and eventually go completely public.
Aria is thrilled by the idea and they kiss. Jason walks out, hands her the box, and watches her get into Ezra’s car. Little does Ezra know that Ella finds the prospect of Ezra dating a student completely distasteful and an abuse of his position. Ella shares her thoughts with Aria soon after Ezra’s declaration; it is unclear whether this development will change Ezra’s plan to come forward to Aria’s parents. In ” Over My Dead Body,” Aria shows up to Ezra’s office with two cups of coffee but does not enter because Jackie has beaten her to it. She overhears Jackie make an advance and Ezra tell her he is seeing someone and not interested. She leaves when her phone buzzes.
A message from A instructs Aria to “get rid of Jackie” using a copy of the paper she is publishing and the article she plagiarized it from. She doesn’t want to use this information against Jackie because she is afraid Ezra will never forgive her, but ultimately decides she has no choice. She goes to Jackie’s office and shows her what she has on her, saying, “I think you should leave Hollis.” While getting ready for Tom and Isabel’s wedding, the doorbell rings at Aria’s house.
An appropriately unhinged recap of Pretty Little Liars (Part 1)
Aria answers it and it is Jackie there to threaten to make Aria and Ezra’s relationship public if she doesn’t break up with him. Aria says, “you know that would hurt him much more than me.” Jackie says she doesn’t want to hurt him, but will if she has to. “I need you.” Aria, Hanna, Spencer, and Emily are arrested on suspicion of murder because they were found with Alison’s murder weapon. At the police station, Aria asks to make her phone call. She appears to call Ezra, crying, “I made a terrible mistake and I need you.” Ezra shows up a little while later while the girls’ parents are gathered around discussing what to do. “I’m in love with her.” Byron spots him and wonders why he is there. Ella goes over to him and says, “I know why you are here.” She says it is a small town and people talk. Ezra says, “I’m in love with her.” Ella gives him a chance to walk away because “if Spencer’s parents find out, they will ruin you.” Ella still thinks Ezra is having an affair with Spencer. Aria momentarily bumps into Ezra in the Hollis College hallways of her father’s office building in the prequel episode, ” The First Secret,” demonstrating that she had encountered him long before she officially met him. One month after the girls’ arrest, in ” Through Many Dangers, Toils, and Snares,” and after Aria finishes community service, Aria and Mike bump into Ezra on the street outside the bike shop. Things are clearly awkward as they talk about not having seen each other lately. The next day, Ezra walks in on Jackie and Aria arguing in his office. After Jackie leaves, he finally learns from Aria why she broke up with him. Jackie had been blackmailing her and after all the trouble with the cops, Aria didn’t want to drag Ezra into it. “I love Aria.” Later, standing before Byron and Ella in their living room, Ezra and Aria finally come clean about their relationship, much to her parents’ shock and anger. Ezra does most of the talking, explaining he’s in love with Aria and admits it started before she was his student and that it continued while she was his student. In ” A Hot Piece of A,” Aria uses Hanna’s cell phone to leave Ezra a voicemail. She tells him how much she loves him and that things will blow over. Later on, Byron shows up to Ezra’s apartment to get his assurance he will never see Aria again. Ezra is unable to give it to him, and Byron threatens to get the police involved. Aria and her parents walk toward a restaurant in town for dinner but stop short when they see Ezra through the window dining alone. Aria and Ezra stare longingly at each other before she’s forced to walk away. Later that night, Aria leaves Ezra another voicemail, saying that she thinks her mom is coming around if they are just patient. Aria concocts a plan to see Ezra without her parents’ knowledge in ” Let the Water Hold Me Down,” She arranges a date with old friend Holden to see a play she knows Ezra will be attending. When Aria turns from the ticket office, she sees Ezra getting out of a cab. In ” The Blond Leading the Blind,” Aria leaves Ezra a voicemail from Emily’s phone. She tells him she doesn’t want their relationship to be over, but if it is, they should talk about it in person. If there is any chance of staying together, he will meet her under a clock in Philadelphia at 8 o’clock. Ezra sees the voicemail but doesn’t listen to it until prompted by a student’s wise words. Aria waits patiently on a bench in the rain, watching every car that passes until Ezra finally arrives. He calls her name and they kiss in the middle of the street, stopping traffic. Inside his car, they both agree what they are doing is dangerous. He wants her to be safe and happy and make sure that being together is what she wants. In ” A Kiss Before Lying,” Ezra and Aria drive to an unknown location in Ezra’s car and discuss their situation. Aria hates having to lie to her friends. He tells her she doesn’t have to, but she recalls being “burned before.” The good news is her mom seems to be slowly coming round to the idea of them dating.
- The bad news is her dad will probably never come around.
- They get closer when Aria mentions the need to generate some heat.
- Aria and Ezra are able to see each other because of an arrangement she has with her good friend, Holden.
- They have another date planned for the next night, but it is canceled because Ezra has to attend a Hollis function.
There, he is offered an assistant dean position in New Orleans, as it turns out, courtesy of Byron Montgomery, in an effort to ensure Ezra never sees Aria again. In ” CTRL: A,” Aria and Ezra talk on the phone, discussing Ezra’s interview for the job in New Orleans tomorrow. Aria says it’s a huge opportunity for him, but Ezra says that isn’t the problem, it’s what Byron will think if he doesn’t take it. Aria says they need to discuss it in person, and Ezra suggests a restaurant which just opened up. That night, Ezra gets a text from Aria just as he walks up to the restaurant. She can’t make it and promises to explain later. A disappointed Ezra turns to leave when he notices Byron inside. Shocked at the close call, he quickly flees the scene. In ” Breaking the Code,” Aria and Ezra talk on the phone about his interview. He says he will be back tomorrow by noon. Before they can make plans, Ella walks in the room and Aria pretends to be talking to Emily. She quickly ends the call. “Are you giving up on us?” The next day, Ezra meets Aria in her car. Aria asks him about the trip and says she is glad it’s all over. Ezra says that Aria’s dad is clearly on to them and that he hasn’t declined the offer yet. The job is an incredible opportunity and if he turns it down, Byron will know why.
- Aria says that they will figure something out like they always do.
- Ezra says that he’s not so sure about that anymore.
- She asks if he is giving up on them.
- He says no, but they’ve been trying to work it out for a long time and maybe they should consider the possibility it is not meant to be.
- Aria is very visibly upset.
Ezra leaves, having to get to class. She breaks down and cries in her car. Later, Aria and Ezra eat and talk at Ezra’s apartment. Aria wonders when he is leaving because it feels like he’s left already. He assures her he won’t be leaving right away. There is a knock at the door. Ezra opens it to find Ella. Initially surprised, then prepared for the fallout, he lets her in. Ella stares at Ezra and Aria sitting opposite her on the couch. Aria wants to know what they’re all doing there. Ella admits she does not condone their relationship but is afraid of what will happen if she takes the same stance as Byron. She wants to understand the relationship between Aria and Ezra before anyone makes any rash decisions. They are interrupted by the kettle whistling. In ” Eye of the Beholder,” Ezra has an intense conversation with Byron defining exactly why he will be turning down the job offer – he won’t allow Byron to have that much control over him. Ezra calls Aria immediately afterward to tell her he loves her. “You can at least lean into it.” Aria shows up to Ezra’s office with coffee in ” If These Dolls Could Talk,” Ezra tells Aria he’s worried about the fallout from him not taking the job Byron lined up for him. She tries to assuage his fears and reminds him her dad is not all that powerful, then tries to take his mind off things with a kiss. The next day, Aria lets herself into Ezra’s apartment, surprised to find him there, not working late. She informs him that boarding school is off the table thanks to some nasty dirt she had to dig up that she would rather remain buried. He responds by telling her he’s been fired and next Monday will be his last class. Ezra has been told by the school they are no longer offering his course, which he assumes is Byron’s doing. Aria is angry, but Ezra tells her breaking up her family is not an option. His plan is to live with his parents for a while and start looking for a new job, more than likely outside of Rosewood.
” | Playing dress up for your man on Halloween is one thing. You do it any other night, you end up on an afternoon talk show. | ” |
In ” It Happened ‘That Night’,” Aria wakes up from a nightmare on Ezra’s couch. She notices the newspaper on Ezra’s table. They talk about Garrett and Maya. Ezra mentions the weekend that’s coming up. Aria says, “How could I forget?” thinking Ezra was talking about the anniversary of Alison’s death.
He mentions that it’s their anniversary too and wants to recreate their first date. The two then make out on Ezra’s kitchen counter. In ” Blood Is The New Black,” Ezra is dropping Aria off at her house, 3 blocks away. The two talk about her dad warming an up to their relationship and Byron still disapproves throughout the summer between Season 2 and 3.
Aria brings up Ezra tutoring Emily and he says he might not want to. Aria kisses him, but his phone rings, Emily calling about tutoring, and Aria leaves. In ” Kingdom of the Blind,” Ezra is still trying to find a job. He has recently been rejected in an interview. In ” That Girl is Poison,” Ezra is outside Lucky Leon’s, buying a newspaper. Aria gets him food from the restaurant. He tries to pay her for the food, but she refuses. Ezra doesn’t seem to appreciate the gesture. She tries to explain, but Ezra cuts her off, saying he has to go to an interview, and heads towards his car.
Later Aria is talking to Spencer, and Aria receives a text from Ezra saying he was invited to Jenna’s party. Aria and Ezra are at his apartment and about to leave for their dinner reservations. Aria brings up Jenna’s party saying she wants to go. Ezra seems confused at first but then decides to give her an antique camera.
The two then leave for the party. Ezra and Aria arrive. Aria tells him that Laurel was her teacher during the photography lessons she took over the summer. Aria asks Laurel about the vintage camera. Laurel says if the camera works it was expensive. Eventually, Ezra wants to leave, but Aria talks him into waiting a little bit longer.
- Ezra is getting angry that Aria keeps ditching him at the party.
- This leads to a discussion of money and he tells her he got a new job.
- Laurel spots her wet equipment and Aria offers to run to the studio and bring her back dry memory cards.
- When Aria gets the memory cards, Lucas, shows up outside saying he needs to get inside.
Lucas sprints off when Ezra pulls up. In ” The Remains of the “A”,” Aria and Ezra are at Ezra’s apartment. Aria brings up the idea of ditching her first day. Ezra says it might not be the best idea. He grabs the camera he gave her and the two have a little photoshoot. Aria goes to Ezra’s place. She confronts him about the money in the sock drawer. Ezra tells her he sold a car belonging to his grandfather. He did not want to tell Aria because he is embarrassed that he lost his job, and is now answering want-ads for webzines and reusing coffee filters.
- Aria feels sorry for suspecting him and asks to join him on the couch.
- They snuggle together, but Ezra steals a secretive glance at his sock drawer.
- The main storyline from now on in Season 3 with Ezria is that Ezra has a son.
- His Mom paid Maggie (who he got pregnant in high school) to keep quiet about it and have an abortion.
Maggie kept the baby and gave birth to Ezra’s son, Malcolm. Wes split the beans to Aria and Aria tracked Maggie down and discovered she had in fact kept Malcolm. By tricking Spencer into thinking Aria had texted her (A had Aria’s phone), Spencer revealed it to Ezra who got mad at Aria for keeping it a secret, “you’re the person I’m supposed to trust”. Whilst he was gone, Aria spent a lot of time with Wes who even tried to kiss her, but she pulled away and asked him to leave. When Ezra returned the couple reconciled and Ezra said he wanted Aria in every part of his life. However after Aria met Malcolm and babysat him, he hit his head, leaving Aria to question whether or not she’s ready for this.
The second time she looked after him and was supposed to pick him up from Karate, Spencer, as A, got their first. Spencer kidnapped him to prove herself to Mona. Although Ezra didn’t find out about this, it shook Aria up and made her think whether her relationship with Ezra was right. In the Season 3 finale, Aria finds out that Ezra is teaching again at Rosewood High.
She lies to the principal and says they are not together anymore. Once she finds out that Ezra has accepted the job, and with all the worry that A will harm Ezra and/or Malcolm, she breaks up with Ezra. They share a kiss which was identical to the one they had before Alison’s funeral in Pilot.
” | I didn’t know I was going to fall in love with you. | ” |
In “‘ A’ Is For A-l-i-v-e,” Aria and Ezra have an awkward encounter at the Brew where Ezra tells Aria that he took a full-time job at Rosewood. He tells her it’s okay if she wants to see other people and she responds by telling him that she isn’t ready for that. After hearing people coming she says “goodbye Mr. Fitz” and leaves. Later on, in the episode she is talking with Emily and staring at Ezra across the courtyard. The vice-principal sees her and she thinks she’s busted because she told him that she wasn’t involved with him anymore. She begins to freak out even more when she gets called to his office.
- He calls her in and tells her that he knows she’s been ‘sleeping with her teacher’ and shows her pictures of Aria and Ezra having sex that a concerned student had sent him anonymously.
- He tells her that her parents are coming and receives a phone call to which he says ‘I’m relieved to know he’s in custody’.
Aria runs out and sees Ezra being led out of the school in handcuffs by police officers. She stands there crying as they look at each other. It’s then revealed that she was just daydreaming and imagining it. The vice principal gives her some papers for her Mom to sign and says he hopes she feels better.
- Aria texts Ezra and says she does want to see other people.
- At Wildens funeral, Aria glanced at Ezra (who attended the funeral with Maggie), but he doesn’t look at her.
- This is probably due to the fact that he was talking with the vice principal at the time.
- In ” Turn of The Shoe,” Aria takes up self-defense classes to protect herself from A (because she thinks she’s an easy target being small).
Looking for Holden, she meets an instructor called Jake. She has a session the following day and kisses him randomly. She leaves quickly and bangs her car steering wheel. She is seen to really regret the kiss and tells Spencer she did it because she misses Ezra.
At school, Spencer talks to Ezra after class about her college essay and getting into a good school. He tells her that you should always have a second choice, “even if you had your heart set on something else” which could be a reference to Aria. He makes another reference to her when he talks about doomed romance and Aria and Ezra make eye contact.
Later, Jake turns up to Aria’s house and says he is interested in her but understands if she’s not, because teacher-student relationships can be weird. She awkwardly agrees and they decide to get coffee together sometime. In ” Face Time,” Aria and Jake are walking when Malcolm runs out of a store and asks her why she doesn’t come over anymore (meaning to Ezra’s place).
When he goes back inside, Jake asks Aria who Ezra is, and wonders if he is a friend of the family, but she just says he’s one of her teachers. Later, Aria tells Jake all about Ezra and their relationship. In ” Under The Gun,” Aria agrees to help out one of Mike’s friends, Connor, with his English paper.
He goes to her house and after she’s helped him, he kisses her. Aria rejects him straight away and tells him that she’s not interested in that way. The next day at school, Mike comes to her and asks her how she could hook up with Connor. She is confused and he says that they’re all talking about it in the boys locker room.
Angry, she goes there straightaway and sees Ezra on the way and looks at him. She goes to Connor to tell him and his friends what really happened, but he tells her to ‘quit the innocent virgin act’ because everyone knows that she and Mr. Fitz weren’t just ‘scrabble buddies.’ He then asks her how many points for the word slut, and as she turns around to leave she sees Ezra standing there.
He tells her that she shouldn’t be in here and she storms off, leaving Ezra staring at Connor. Aria then goes to the staircase (possibly the same one in which they kissed in 3×24) and sits on her phone, deleting texts from guys, presumably Connor’s friends, asking her to hook up with them, some saying ‘am I too young for you?’ She angrily throws her phone back into her purse and sighs.
Ezra then appears and tells her that those guys are ‘jerks’ and that she shouldn’t let some stupid rumor get to her. He tries to help her but she gets angry and says that it’s not just a rumor if there’s some truth to it. She also calls him Ezra, instead of Mr. Fitz. She gets mad and tells him he can’t be the guy that makes her feel better anymore, and storms off, leaving him stood there.
At the end of the episode, Aria, Spencer, and Emily are at the Open Mic night at The Brew. Ezra is seen walking up to the doors outside, and looking into the window at Aria. Not long after this, someone completely trashes Connor’s car. It is unknown who this is at the moment. In ” Crash and Burn, Girl!,” Mike is getting in trouble because Conner’s parents want to get him expelled as they think it was him who vandalized the car. While Aria is waiting outside the principal’s office for him and her Dad, Ezra comes over to talk to her.
He says he understands that he can’t be the one to sweep in and comfort her but it kills him. She says she knows and then quickly changes the conversation back to Mike. They talk about the topic but are interrupted by Byron who comes out of the office. Ezra offers that he’d love to help if there’s anything he can do and Byron thanks him, saying he appreciates it.
Later, it is seen that Ezra is talking to the Principal and he asks if Mike was actually seen there, or if there is any evidence to suggest it was him. He then goes on to ask about Mike’s medical history and how the Principal had previously spoken to Aria about it. Mike comes home later that day and tells Aria that he’s off the hook. She asked what happened and he said that Mr. Fitz happened. Aria then goes to Ezra’s apartment to thank him, but he wasn’t home, so she left a thank you note under his door. Just as she’s leaving, he comes up the stairs.
He tells her that everything feels in-personal lately, and she says she’s really glad he swooped. He says that she knows there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for her, and they stare longingly at each other until Aria cuts it off and says she’s gotta go, rushing off down the stairs and leaving Ezra to sink and lean against the wall.
In ” The Mirror Has Three Faces,” Ezra discovers that Malcolm isn’t actually his son. He cries, getting upset and decides to call Aria. She tells Jake she has to take a call, but then changes her mind and declines it, leaving Ezra standing alone in his apartment.
- In ” Bring Down The Hoe,” Ezra tries to reach out to Aria after his recent troubles regarding Maggie and Malcolm.
- He tells Emily about how Maggie wants to take Malcolm away but asks her not to tell Aria, because he’d rather do that himself.
- She urges Aria throughout the episode to talk to him with little success.
At the Brew, Aria is waiting for Jake and sees Ezra at the next table. He comes over and asks her if there’s a time that they can talk as she says she’s busy right now. Just then, Jake comes over and there is an awkward moment as Aria introduces the two men.
- Ezra leaves quickly, obviously feeling uncomfortable with Jake being there.
- Later at the dance, Ezra is chaperoning and he notices Aria dancing.
- Jake notices him looking and tells him to give them some space, being generally horrible towards Ezra.
- They’re interrupted when another girl comes to get a drink.
Emily talks to Aria and asks her if she’s spoken to Ezra yet, telling her that he’s right over there by the drinks. She says she can’t because of Jake, causing Emily to blurt out everything about Maggie. Aria realizes that that is why he’s been so down lately and immediately runs over to him. Later, Aria has Jake drop her off at home and then she makes her own way to Ezra’s apartment. He tells that she didn’t have to come, to which she replies that she wanted too. He says that ‘it’s a mess’ and he doesn’t want to get her involved, so she tells him that he may as well talk because she isn’t leaving. In ” Now You See Me, Now You Don’t,” Ezra thanked Aria after class for being there for him. She says it’s okay and that she was happy she could be there for him, as a friend. She then walks out and accepts a call from Jake. She suggests going to a poetry reading but he seems to not want to go as she changes her mind and says they can go watch a movie instead and she’ll cook dinner.
Jake falls asleep during the movie and says he’s tired, so he goes home. Aria then decides to go to the Brew and Ezra is there. They discuss something Aria wrote called, ‘Found but Lost,’ and Ezra says how the reading reminded him of the story. Aria orders a coffee and Ezra gets a top up. They start talking and act just like they used to.
All of a sudden, Aria kisses Ezra, then pulls back. They both smile but carry on talking like nothing happened. Just then, we see Redcoat watching them through the window who must have seen the whole thing. At the end of the episode, Ezra is made to look guilty of something as we see him in the A lair wearing a black jacket and a black cap. In ” Whos’ In The Box?,” Aria wants to get away from Rosewood, so Ezra takes her to his friend’s cabin, where he gives her a key and tells her that the place can be ‘their secret.’ They kiss and it is implied they begin their relationship once again.
Aria and Ezra officially rekindle their relationship and by ” Close Encounters,” they are back together. Aria dumps Jake and tells Ezra that he’s ‘the one’ and ‘always has been.’ Spencer gets suspicious and adds everything up to realize that Ezra is board shorts. She assumes that he must be A, too, when she figures out that the lair in Ravenswood belongs to him.
She struggles with whether or not to tell Aria. She decides against it. In ” Free Fall,” when the girls accuse Spencer of doing drugs, Aria brings up Ezra. He showed Aria Spencer’s record, showing that she has been addicted before. Spencer breaks down and yells at Aria, telling her that he’s setting her up because he’s A.
- Aria isn’t convinced, but then later at his apartment, Ezra lets slip that he knew more than he should have done about when Spencer found a body in the woods.
- She decided to go to his cabin to snoop around.
- When she gets there, the password is B26 which makes her smile.
- However, the smile is short-lived when she goes inside and sees a manuscript to a book that Ezra has been writing about Alison.
Aria realizes that they knew each other and she assumes that he got her pregnant and tried to kill her. Seeing Ezra arrive at the cabin (he got a notification that the security system was disabled), she takes the pages and runs to a ski lift. Ezra follows her and they end up on the ski lift together, forced to talk it out. Aria screams and cries and Ezra crumbles as he tells her that he lied about a lot of things, but not the way he felt about her.
- Aria tells him that she doesn’t even know who he is anymore and accuses him of being A.
- Ezra explains that he isn’t A, he was writing a book on Alison and had used Aria to get to her so that she could write it.
- To apologize, Ezra tells her that he’s an idiot and a jerk and he’ll burn the book.
- Aria says no, she’s gonna read it cover to cover.
Ezra refuses to allow this and pushes the book of her hands so that it falls to the ground. A is seen picking it up at the end of the episode. Then, Aria goes home and throws the book, Winesburg Ohio, that he gave to her in season 1 on the floor. In this episode, it is confirmed that Ezra is not A, but he did know Alison and was writing a book about her disappearance.
In ” She’s Come Undone,” Aria finds out that Ezra has left town for a ‘family emergency’ when she goes into his classroom and angrily asks, “where’s Ezra?” She decides to go to his apartment and ends up wrecking the whole place after she finds boxes of research and notes of things he recorded during their relationship.
Later, she calls his publishing office and finds out that he’s in a meeting right that second. She’s upset and assumes that he’s going forward with publishing the book. In ” Cover For Me,” Aria takes some time away from Rosewood and meets a guy called Riley. They spend some time together and get drunk and hook up. She returns and goes straight to Ezra’s apartment. He tells her that he has canceled the book (that’s why he was at the publishing office in NY) and gives her a copy of his manuscript, saying that he has found things that she and her friends will find useful. In ” A Is For Answers,” Aria learns the truth behind Ezra and Ali. Alison tells her that she and Ezra never did anything (sex), and tells her how he broke things off. Then she tells her that Ezra wants to win Aria back so he’s trying to save her (Alison) in order to do that.
- At the end of the episode, the girls are cornered on a rooftop with A chasing them, and Ezra appears.
- He protects the girls and tells A that he ‘know who are and the police are on their way.’ A points the gun at the girls so Ezra rushes A and the two get into a fight with shots firing everywhere.
- A drops the gun and Hanna is able to pick it up.
A gets away and Aria turns to see Ezra. He stands, looking out at the night and says “it’s so beautiful.” Then, he turns around and it’s revealed that he has been shot in the stomach. He literally took a bullet for Aria and the girls, proving his loyalty to them. Aria screams and he falls into her arms. He tells her he’s sorry and touches her face but Aria shushes him and says to him, “You stay awake, do you hear me? Don’t you dare close your eyes.” He loses consciousness as Aria cradles him and cries, screaming his name, showing how much she still loves and needs him.
” | I don’t ever want to hear you say your sorry again. | ” |
EscApe From New York A semi-conscious Ezra is loaded into the back of an ambulance after having been shot in the stomach, while a distressed Aria is being held back by Spencer, Hanna, and Emily. Exiting the Subway, Aria says she doesn’t understand how Ezra found them and Alison told her that she thinks Ezra was following ‘A’, “and A was following us”.
- Alison reminds Aria why Ezra is still looking for her and tells her he wants to win Aria back.
- When Alison asks if Ezra still has a chance, Aria tells Alison that she can’t think about that right now, “I don’t even know if he’s alive”.
- Pacing the waiting room, Aria overhears a nurse updating Dianne Fitzgerald on Ezra’s condition; telling her that they’ve successfully removed the bullet but there was extensive arterial damage.
Ezra wakes up in recovery with Aria and Shana by his bedside. Upon seeing Shana, Ezra starts to hyperventilate, and Aria rushes to the door and calls for help while Shana slips from the room. Nurses run into Ezra’s room to try and stabilize his vitals, while a male nurse ushers Aria from the room.
- Aria walks into Ezra’s room and places her hand on his.
- As he wakes, Aria tells him that he’s going to be okay.
- Looking around the room, Ezra removes his oxygen mask and whispers something in Aria’s ear which causes her to rush out of the room.
- Whirly Girlie Aria tries calling the hospital in New York to get an update on Ezra’s condition.
Surfing the Aftershocks Aria and the girls walk into the school courtyard, where Spencer voices her concerns about the people who know that Alison was lying about New York, particularly Ezra. When Spencer tells them that ‘someone’ has to go talk to him, make sure he’s going to keep quiet, Aria is against the idea of her going, telling Spencer that while Ezra may be alive and safe, they’re are over.
Aria is outside of Ezra’s apartment, unsure on whether to knock or not. As she begins to walk away Ezra opens his door and the two sharing a longing look. Inside, Ezra tells her about his home care professional and makes a joke about being her favorite gunshot victim which falls flat. Ezra tells Aria that while he knows he promised he wouldn’t come back to Rosewood, he doesn’t have anywhere else to go.
After asking how he is, Aria asks if he knows about everything that has happened, with Alison. Ezra understands that he has to go along with Alison’s kidnap story. Aria then asks if he knows about Mrs. DiLaurentis’; Ezra knows it was a murder, and initially he thought it was Shana but the timing doesn’t fit.
- He had everything backward and it wasn’t until he saw Shana in New York dressed as ‘A’ that he knew she was ‘A’.
- As Aria is about to leave, Ezra thanks for her coming by and letting him see her, and Aria tells him she wanted to see him also.
- Aria is back at Ezra’s apartment, telling him that she should have warned him that Alison might drop by like she did.
Ezra says the only reason he opened the door to Alison was because he thought it may have been Aria. After their goodbye earlier they had both thought it was going their final goodbye. Aria then confesses what really happened in New York, “you don’t have to worry about Shana anymore. Aria knocks on Ezra’s door and rushes into his apartment where she tells him she can’t keep thinking about Shana’s family and when she closes her eyes all she can see is Shana’s grandmother and how empty she looked at the funeral. Ezra asks her how she knows what Shana’s grandmother looked like, and Aria admits to watching Shana’s funeral online, many times.
Ezra tells her that she’s just going to have to find a way to forgive herself. While Ezra is out grabbing food, Aria phones the church where Shana’s funeral was held hoping to donate to the cost of the service. Walking to his apartment, Ezra asks her what she’s doing, and when she hangs up, he tells her, “that’s not trying to find a way to forgive yourself.
That’s hoping they forgive you”. Knowing he’s right, Aria goes to sit on his couch, curling herself into a ball. Ezra tells her he knows it’s not easy, and he can say this because it’s what he has to tell himself every night, “once you found out about the book, the only thing that I could think of was how to make it up to you.
- And I would have done anything to get you to forgive me.
- But I realized, that might not ever happen, and I had to be okay with that”.
- Leaning forward, Ezra grabs his checkers board and starts to set it up.
- When Aria asks what he’s doing, Ezra tells her they’re playing checkers until they get sick of it, they’ll play chess.
Aria wins another game of Gin, and Ezra asks why she is so freakishly good, only for her to tell him, “I’m not. You’re just freakishly bad”. As Aria passes him to cards to shuffle and deal, Ezra tells her he’s starting to fade. At the thought of going home to an empty house, Aria asks if she can stay over, “on the couch”. Aria and Ezra are walking down the main street of Rosewood when Ezra asks if Aria is still having nightmares of Shana. She tells him she is, and he tells her she needs to let go. Reaching up, Aria runs her hand down Ezra’s cheek, before realizing what she was going and dropping her hand.
Walking past him, she tells him she keeps waiting for an ‘A’ message, a text that is going to come in with a picture of her standing on Shana’s dead body. Ezra reminds her that photo doesn’t exist, and Aria tells him to tell that to her right eye which twitches every time she receives a text. Stopping, they notice Alison leaning in the window of a car and Ezra wonders what she’s doing out so late.
Aria tells him she doesn’t know and calls out to Alison. When Alison asks them if this is a date, they both tell her no. Hearing a familiar sound as a bus starts to depart, Aria, Ezra, and Alison turn, coming face to face with Jenna who is back in Rosewood.
- Walking into Ezra’s apartment, Aria hands Ezra a Paula’s Pie box, while reminding him that while there might no longer be ‘A’, he should still lock his door.
- Sitting down at his table, Ezra asks “why pie?” to which Aria throws a “why not pie” comment over her shoulder as she grabs forks from a drawer.
Aria tells him that Jenna is blaming herself for Shana’s death, and if she’s to blame anyone, it should be her. Ezra thinks that they should both be blaming Shana as she was the one holding the gun. As Aria eat a mouthful, Ezra wipes some cream from her bottom lip and licks the cream from his thumb, before realizing what he just did.
Aria tells Ezra that Alison believed that Jenna was manipulating Shana, but Aria thinks Jenna was truly in love with Shana. Ezra tells her that she needs to stop beating herself up, and when she says she doesn’t know how she is going to get past it, he stands up, lifting his shirt and shows her his scar from the gunshot wound.
Saddened, Aria traces over the edges of the wound with her thumb and tells him that she is sorry. Grabbing her wrists and lifting her up, Ezra tells her that he never wants to hear her say she’s sorry again and leans in to kiss her. Reciprocating the kiss, they move to Ezra’s oven where he lifts her onto the stovetop and they continue to kiss with more passion and urge.
- On Ezra’s bed, Aria and Ezra are feverishly making out, and when Aria rolls on top of Ezra, she asks if that hurts, to which Ezra says that he can handle it.
- Sitting up, Aria drags the bed sheet over them as she leans back down to kiss him.
- A breaking news story breaks in regards to the identity of the Jane Doe who was buried in Alison’s grave, so everyone gathers in Emily’s living room.
As the press conference starts, Ezra reaches out to Aria and she takes his hand in hers and rests her other hand on his arm. As the Police Chief is finishing up the press conference, a large boom is heard and windows of Emily’s lounge room explode. Recovering from the glass blast, Aria, Ezra, and the others walk out onto the street to find the Cavanaugh house on fire and rubble lying all over the road. The Liars’ cell phones are beeping and ringing with an incoming text message, and Alison says that it is from A, so Ezra asks what it says, and Aria reads it out loud, “Did you miss me, bitches. -A”. A second explosion inside the Cavanaugh house occurs leaving Aria, Ezra and the others ducking for cover.
In Ezra’s apartment, Aria tells Ezra that Shana wasn’t ‘A’ and that she killed an innocent person, but Ezra reminds her that Shana was not innocent. Aria tells him the cops aren’t going to believe that when they find out she’s been covering Shana’s murder up, “it’s only a matter of time before A exposes what I did”.
Ezra tells her that they don’t know if this person has any idea of what happened in New York, and when Aria asks Ezra what he is doing, he tells her he’s looking for a connection between Mrs. DiLaurentis and Bethany Young. When Aria questions him why Ezra explains that he doesn’t think he was too far off with his Mrs.
D theory, “Mrs. D was on the board at Radley Sanitarium. Bethany was a patient there. Bethany was buried in her yard, in the same spot where Ali was buried”. Aria picks up that Ezra thinks A killed Bethany and Mrs D, and Ezra telling her that would be a connection. He goes on to say when he was writing his book he interviewed some of the staff at Radley and he thinks the name Bethany Young came up, he just doesn’t know which file it is in.
As Aria tells him that she can help him look after school, he tells her that they’re going to get through this. Ezra and Aria are going through Ezra’s research when Aria stumbles on a photo of them together, and Ezra tells her it was a fun day the day the photo was taken.
As Aria begins to talk about what happened the other night, Ezra cuts her off, “felt right, didn’t it?”, but Aria tells him it doesn’t mean things can go back to the way that they were. Ezra questions what it does means and Aria says, “I’m not going to pretend I don’t miss it, us because I do”, and Ezra tells her he does too.
Aria then tells him that she then remembers everything that happened, “how we met, all the lies that you told”, and while Ezra says he wishes he could go back and change things, Aria reminds him he can’t, “and the other night was a mistake”. As someone knocks on Ezra’s door, he gets up to answer it, and Lieutenant Tanner introduces herself, and wonders if she could ask him a few questions.
- Hearing Tanner’s voice, Aria gets up from where she was sitting and goes to hide in Ezra’s bathroom.
- After Lieutenant Tanner has left, Aria tells Ezra that they need to get the boxes out of his apartment quick, and when Ezra tells Aria to slow down, Aria is convinced Tanner is probably already on her way back with a search warrant.
Ezra tells her that Tanner is not on her way back, and when Aria asks how he can say that as “she basically said that she knows Shana was the one who shot you”, Ezra questions why Tanner would want to search his apartment. Aria tells him Tanner knows Ezra is hiding something, and Ezra tells her that “she’s going to need a whole lot more than suspicion to get a search warrant”.
Aria goes on to say that if Tanner does come back she’s going to find proof that Ezra was lying about how well he knew Shana, and that Alison wasn’t kidnapped. Ezra says that he could move the stuff into his storage unit, but Aria realizes that if it’s registered in his name, they’ll search the storage unit as well before Aria suggests that they just put everything in her attic.
Ripping open the envelope that was left for him, Ezra finds a drawing and wonders what it is. Walking over to him, Aria says that she thinks it Mrs. DiLaurentis, and when Ezra asks how she can tell, Aria explains, “that’s her house, she was obsessed with her roses, and she definitely wore scarves like that”.
- Flipping the page over, Ezra reads the signature, “Bethany”, and when Aria questions how many Bethany’s he knows, he tells her just one, “and she was buried in Mrs.
- DiLaurentis’ backyard”.
- Aria wonders who would want him to have this picture, and when he wonders why, Aria tells him her money is on ‘A’ before Ezra realizes that he still has his security camera’s up in the hallway.
Going through the security camera footage, Aria hands him a bottle of water and asks if he’s seen anything, and he tells her, “just you arriving at my door”. Aria can’t believe that he still has a camera in the hallway, but Ezra tells her “it makes sense with all the research material here”.
- Aria comes to the conclusion that whoever dropped off the picture had to of done it after she arrived, but before Tanner came, and with Ezra agreeing, he puts the video in fast forward.
- Aria tells him she’s been thinking, and that perhaps he should tell Tanner the truth about Shana, “you know, that she was the one who shot you”.
When Ezra asks where this is coming from, Aria tells him that he lied to the police and that he could get into serious trouble. Ezra reminds her that if he tells the truth now, they’re going to know he’s covering something up. Sighing, Aria says that she hates that she’s dragged him into this mess.
Grabbing her hand, Ezra tells her she didn’t, “I dragged myself into it when I decided to write a book”. Placing her hand on Ezra’s, the two share a look before Ezra notices something on the security camera footage. Rewinding and going through the footage in slow motion, they spot who left the envelope, and when Aria asks Ezra if he knows who the person is, Ezra tells her that it is Eddie Lamb, “he works at Radley, and he’s one of the people I interviewed for the book”.
Recognizing the name, Aria mentions that Eddie Lamb was the one who Spencer talked to earlier, and that “he wouldn’t tell her a thing. That it was against Radley policy”, and when Ezra says that he must have had a change of heart, Aria questions why he left the picture for Ezra, but Ezra doesn’t know. In her living room, Aria ends her phone call with Spencer, and opening the front door to leave, she finds Ezra standing on the porch, “Ezra?”. Ezra asks Aria for confirmation that she saw Eddie as she was leaving Radley, and she tells him she did, “in the parking lot” and when she asks him why, Ezra tells her Eddie called him to set up a meeting, “I waited for over an hour, and he never showed up”. After Alison is questioned by Lieutenant Tanner, Aria tells the other liars that she has to go tell Ezra about what was broadcast in The Brew, so he’s not ambushed if Tanner decides to question him while he’s having a medical check-up in New York. Aria is leaving Ezra a voicemail saying that Alison got grilled by Tanner and that ‘A’ must have tipped her off about New York.
She asks if Eddie has called yet as they need to figure out what is up with those drawings, and she has to get them back to Big Rhonda before she notices them missing. After spotting Ella walking towards her, Aria tells Ezra to call her as soon as he can. While Aria is talking with Ella, Ezra tries to call Aria back.
March of Crimes Lieutenant Tanner asks Aria when she first met Mr Fitz. Glancing briefly towards Ella, Aria claps her hands together and tells Tanner she met him the first day of junior year. As Tanner says that to Aria’s principal’s knowledge she engaged in an intimate relationship with Mr.
Fitz after he was no longer a teacher at the school. Tanner asks Aria if she was aware of Mr. Fitz was seeing any other students socially, students like Shana Fring, and when Aria wonders what Tanner is saying, Tanner questions if it is possible that Mr. Fitz had intimate relations with other students.
When Ella asks how Aria would know that, Aria strongly voices “no”. As Tanner begins to ask if Aria ever recalls seeing Mr. Fitz interacting with Shana, Aria cuts her off, “he didn’t serial date students. He wasn’t some creep that was prowling the school hallways hitting on girls”, to which Tanner reminds her that they are just questions.
Ella says that Aria cannot lose her cool when she’s asked the questions by Lieutenant Tanner, and Aria tells her that “those weren’t questions, mom. Ezra is on her hit list and she’s wrong”. Sitting at a table in the courtyard, Aria is messaging Ezra, “don’t rush back. Tanner had lots of ??? about you.
All about Shana”. After spotting Hanna walking into the courtyard, Aria grabs her bag off of the table and walking past Hanna, she leaves. Taking This One to the Grave Standing by a police vehicle as a house is taped off as a crime scene, Aria and Ezra, along with Hanna and Emily, stand huddled together, visibly upset and shaken. Clutching onto the inside of Ezra’s unzipped jacket, Aria turns into his chest, telling him that he saw the amount of blood in there, “there’s no way anyone could have lived through that”.
In Ezra’s apartment, Aria tells Ezra that he has “pumpkin guts” on his face, and when he tries to wipe it away, she grabs a tea towel and does it for him. Watching as Ezra removes the innards from a pumpkin, Aria tells him that they can just go to Paula’s and buy the pies. Ezra tells her no, “this is my grandmother’s recipe”, and its way better than Paula’s.
Aria mentions that Granny Rose uses Libby’s canned pie mix, puts it in a frozen shell, and the Montgomery’s never know the difference. Ezra mentions that this is the first time the “Montgomery’s” have invited him over for Thanksgiving, “and you’re mother assigned me with pie duty, so I’m not taking it lightly”.
Aria tells him that they’re not going to have enough time to judge his baking, “they’ll be too busy judging you”. When Ezra gives her a deer in the headlights look, Aria tells him that is why he was invited, her family knows they’re spending a lot of time together and they want to make sure he’s worth a second look.
Laughing, Ezra says that he’s starting to feel like a used car and questions whether her family are going to “kick my tires and check under my hood?” Shrugging, Aria tells him that if Aunt Sarah gets drunk, she may check under his hood, and her Uncle Danny will ask him to arm wrestle, but to just say no.
- Going on, Aria tells Ezra that he’s going to love Granny though, “if you can get passed the long chin hairs, you won’t mind that she toots a lot”.
- As Ezra shudders, Aria tells him that she’s joking, “Granny plucks her chin hairs”, and the two sharing a smiling behind the eyes look.
- Ezra tells Aria that he knows they don’t need the pies they baked, but he figured someone may get hungry when Aria lets him into her house.
Closing the front door, Aria tells Ezra that her mom is still on the phone with Veronica and that the Hastings’ still haven’t seen Spencer yet. Ezra assures Aria that the Hastings’ are working on Spencer’s bail, “they’ll get her out of there in no time, Aria”.
- Aria’s phone rings with an incoming call, and picking it up, Aria announces that it’s Mona.
- Ending the call, Aria tells Ezra to grab his coat, and when he asks her where they’re going, Aria tells him that they’re going to Mona’s, “she found proof. Ali’s A”.
- Walking into the Vanderwaal residence, Aria, Hanna, Emily, and Ezra are shocked to see Mona’s house trashed with hand prints of blood in the entryway, with Aria reacting with, “what the hell”, and Ezra uttering, “oh no”.
Standing by a police vehicle as the Vanderwaal house is taped off as a crime scene, Aria and Ezra, along with Hanna and Caleb, and Emily and Paige, stand huddled together, visibly upset and shaken. Caleb listened on as Detective Holbrook tells the waiting press that while the investigation is ongoing, they have ruled what has happened a homicide and that Mona Vanderwaal was murdered. At Rosewood High, Ezra steps out from behind a Christmas Tree, as Aria goes to place a tray of cookies back on the table with other food. Mentioning that he knows she wanted to keep it low key these holidays, Ezra says that he got her something for tonight.
Aria asks if it’s an “Ali decoder ring”, and after Ezra chuckles, she opens the gift box to find a pair of dangling diamond earrings, “Ezra, they’re beautiful. Thank you”. Ezra then says that “Mandi at the boutique” said the earrings might to go well with the second present he gifts Aria with. Placing the earring on the table, Aria takes the larger present and comments that if is low key, she’s afraid to ask what “full on Christmas” looks like at the Fitzgerald house.
Ezra tells her not ask, “it’s like ‘how many ponies can you get'”. Shocked, Aria asks if he’s serious, and when Ezra coyly tells her “no”, Aria calls him out, and Ezra tells her that he got two ponies, “but I only asked for one”. Aria and Ezra, along with Emily and Paige, and Hanna and Caleb, slow dance under the lit up gazebo, until everyone turns their attention to the top of the staircase.
Walking to the edge of the gazebo, Aria, Ezra, the other couples and Spencer watch as Alison, followed by four other girls, make their grand entrance. Aria, Ezra, Emily, Caleb, and Paige discuss the possibility that Holbrook was the one who Alison was kissing. Noticing a look on Ezra’s face, Aria asks him, “Ezra, what is it?”, before Ezra says that if Holbrook is helping Alison, he wants to know when it started.
In the Hastings’ living room, Aria, Ezra, and the other couples listened as Toby says that the letter Hanna found proves that Alison knew Bethany and that it may create enough reasonable doubt to clear Spencer’s name. As the clock strikes midnight, Ezra leans downs to kiss Aria, before kneeling on the floor and wrapping her in a hug.
- Ezra, Paige, Toby, and Caleb appear on the Hastings’ staircase wearing nothing but Santa boxers, surprising their partners, “Merry Christmas” Aria and Ezra are getting food out of the fridge, as everyone else huddles around the island bench in the Hastings’ kitchen.
- Grabbing a cooked roast from the Hastings’ island bench, Ezra presents, “Christmas chicken”, to everyone.
As Ezra sits down, Aria tells them that they should all say a prayer, and they link hands with one another. Aria and Ezra listen as Emily toasts to their family, may they always stay together, before clinking glasses with everyone. Suddenly everyone hears the sound of bells and something falling down the chimney.
Getting up from the table, everyone heads outside where they find a Christmas tree all lit up in Spencer’s backyard. As they’re admiring the tree, snow starts falling and a message over Spencer’s barn lights up. Aria reads the message aloud, “Merry Christmas, Bitches. –A”, before snuggling into Ezra’s chest.
Through a Glass, Darkly Walking into The Brew, which is being remodeled, Ezra tells Aria that once it’s all done, the side wall will be all bookshelves. Aria tells him that it looks good in a, “has to get really messy before it gets clean”, kind of way. Saying that he appreciates her optimism, Ezra comments that he thinks Aria needs to get her eyes checked.
Ezra questions if Aria has heard from Oberlin, and turns to look at some blueprints, Aria tells him no, she hasn’t yet, “maybe tomorrow”. Ezra then asks if she’s heard from Mike since the funeral, and turning back to face him, Aria admits that she kind of lost track of Mike after the slap that was heard around the world.
Aria questions why, and Ezra says that he was just wondering how Mike was doing, “Mona was a lot of complicated things, to a lot of different people, but she was just one thing to Mike”. Aria mentions that “he loved her”, and she was the one to try and screw it up, “twice”. In The Brew, Aria walks over to Ezra who is on the phone with Andre the caterer. Ezra tells her that Andre keeps putting him on hold, and Aria says that he should tell Andre to stick to the original plan, to which Ezra tells her that that was like three plans ago.
- Noticing the book Aria is holding, Ezra tells her that the author is coming to the party tomorrow night, “you should really talk to him, he teaches at Vassar”.
- Ezra then questions whether Aria has heard from Vassar or not, and she tells him she hasn’t, not yet.
- Turning to organize some books as Ezra gets back to his phone call, Aria looks over her shoulder when Ezra comments that Andre just quit on him.
Emily suggests that she could cater for the party, and looking wary, Ezra listens as Aria tells him that she’s sure it will be amazing, “it’s not like Emily’s a stranger in that kitchen”. Ezra asks if Emily even took home economics and after Aria gives him a look, Ezra apologizes and tells Emily to “go for it”.
- Walking into The Brew’s kitchen, Ezra overhears the last of Aria and Emily’s conversation where Aria says that she may not get to go to college next fall.
- After Emily says that she’s going to go call her mom, Ezra puts down the box and walks over to Aria.
- Holding the letter she has written to Talmadge College, Aria tells Ezra that she didn’t know how to tell him, but nobody wants her.
Ezra tells her that that’s not true, “there are many, many, many great colleges that you can apply to in the future”, to which Aria says that she can write a better letter. Saying that she could write the Grapes of Wrath, Ezra tells her that it still wouldn’t matter, “Talmadge recently hired Jackie Molina as an admissions officer”.
- Aria questions if he means “Jackie, as in your ex Jackie who hates my guts?”, and trying to lighten the situation, Ezra tells her that she forgot to mention that Jackie hates his guts even more.
- Ezra comments that he knows it hurt, “but it’s a temporary setback, that’s all.
- Promise”, before wrapping Aria in a hug.
Walking up to Aria when she arrives at the party, Ezra tells her that he’s been looking for her. Kissing Aria on the cheek, Ezra tells her that there’s somebody he really wants her to meet. With a hand on her lower back, Ezra guides Aria over to Bob, and gaining Bob’s attention, Ezra tells him that Aria is the young lady he was telling him about. Getting up from the couch, Aria approaches Ezra who has just walked into The Brew. Aria begins to ask if they can talk, but pointing to his ringing cell, Ezra explains that the contractor is calling and he’s been trying to get hold of him all day, “I’ll be right back”.
- Ending the call, Ezra tells Aria, who followed him into the kitchen that the contractor is trying to charge him for the shelves he himself installed with Mike.
- Aria apologizes and asks if she can do something to help, but Ezra tells her no, “it’s alright”.
- As Aria begins to say something, Ezra questions if she had fun last night, “I think Bob Milson really liked you”, and that he knows Bob could speak to the admission staff at Vassar on Aria’s behalf, “it’s one phone call”.
Aria tells Ezra that that would be great, and as Ezra’s phone begins to ring again, Ezra tells her he’s so sorry, but he has to take the call. Ezra walks off, leaving a guilt-ridden Aria to sigh heavily. The Bin of Sin Opening the front door of her house, Aria listens as Ezra says that he came as soon as he could before he asks her if everything is okay. Aria tells him that everything’s fine, she just wanted to let him know she got into Talmadge. Ezra tells Aria that “that’s fantastic news”, before hugging her.
As he’s pulling out of the hug, Ezra comments that it must mean Jackie doesn’t review every single application, and after noticing a look on Aria’s face, Ezra assures her that Talmadge is a very good school, “and it’s a big one. It’s unlikely you’ll ever run into Jackie”. When Ezra then tells Aria not to let Jackie ruin this for her, Aria says that she won’t.
Saying that he’s so happy she told him, Ezra apologizes to Aria telling her he has to get back to work, but they can celebrate tonight. Ezra kisses Aria, and as he’s heading towards the door, Aria calls him back. As Ezra turns back, Aria tells him that that’s not the only thing she wanted to talk to him about, “Jackie did review my application”.
- Ezra questions how she knows that, to which Aria admits she wrote a letter to the admissions board hoping that it would specifically land on Jackie’s desk, “and it did”.
- Confused, Ezra asks what letter Aria is referring to, and picking up the letter from the coffee table, Aria anxiously hands it to Ezra to read over.
Aria nervously paces her living room as Ezra reads over her letter to Jackie. When Ezra comments that it’s no wonder she got in, Aria tells him that she doesn’t blame him for being furious, “it was a really stupid thing and I realized that after I did it”.
As Ezra places the letter back on the coffee table, Aria goes on to say that she tried to get the letter back from Jackie but she’d already read it and it was too late, but cutting Aria off, Ezra tells her to stop, “I’m not angry”. Shocked, Aria questions that he’s not, and Ezra tells her it was a brilliant move, “Jackie must have laughed it up”, to which Aria comments, “oh yeah, she did”.
Taking Ezra’s hands, Aria tells him she’s sorry, “really”, but Ezra tells her she did what she had to do to get in. Ezra says that there was no harm done, and when Aria says that there was, “I actually made Jackie believe I feel this way about you”, Ezra mentions that he doesn’t care what Jackie thinks, “only what you do.
And that is all that matters”. After Ezra pulls Aria in for a hug, Aria pushes out of it, commenting that she didn’t have to write the letter, before saying that she doesn’t even want to go to Talmadge, she was just scared if she didn’t get in she’d be stuck in Rosewood. Ezra comments that now Aria doesn’t have to worry, and after the two share a look, Aria walks back into Ezra’s embrace.
Looking over Aria’s shoulder, Ezra eyes the letter. Sitting on the Montgomery’s couch Ezra comments that Aria didn’t eat that much when they place their plates of takeout on the coffee table. After Aria mentions that she’d not that hungry, Ezra gets a present for her out of his satchel.
When Aria questions what it is, Ezra tells her it’s something to celebrate her getting into Talmadge. Opening the present Aria finds a journal monogrammed with her initials, “it’s, it’s beautiful. Thank you so much”, to which Ezra tells her he remembers how excited he was when he got accepted to Hollis, “there are so many amazing adventures ahead of you, and I don’t want you to miss out on a single one the way that you missed out on so much of high school because of me”.
Aria says that she doesn’t actually feel that way, and when Ezra mentions that he read the letter again, Aria tells him that she only wrote what she thought Jackie wanted to hear. Ezra notes that he thinks the letter rang true to Jackie for a reason, and when Aria comments that it’s because she’s a good writer, Ezra just looks at her.
Furrowing her brows, Aria says that she doesn’t understand, “this morning you were practically laughing when you read it”, and Ezra explains that he then had a chance to think about it and he doesn’t think Aria could have written what she did if there wasn’t some small part of her that thought that way about them.
Aria assures him that she doesn’t regret being with him at all, to which Ezra tells her that she may not now, “but if we stay together” Aria questions Ezra’s use of the word “if”, and after Ezra just gives her a look, Aria wonders what Ezra is trying to say.
- Saying that he wants what’s best for her, Ezra reminds Aria that she’s approaching a very exciting time in your life, “you’re going to be meeting people.
- You’re going to be discovering yourself”.
- Cutting in, Aria tells him that she can do all that and still be with him, and after taking a moment, Ezra takes Aria hands, “if we stay together you might grow to resent me.
But if you take this time for yourself, there will be no regrets”. Ezra asks Aria to at least promise him that she’ll think about it, and as a tear rolls down her cheek, Aria reluctantly agrees, “yeah, I will”. To Plea or Not to Plea Leaving James Neilan’s office, Ezra walks over to Emily and Aria, the latter of who has just arrived. Ezra and Aria greet each other, before a silence falls between them, unsure of what to say to the other. Emily cuts in, questioning what James said to Ezra, and Ezra says that Neilan wouldn’t tell him anything.
Aria notices James leaving his office, and telling Ezra and Emily to look, the three watch as James rushes from his office and gets into his car. Turning and starting to head back towards her own car, Aria calls out to Ezra and Emily, questioning whether they’re coming or not. Following James Neilan out to a residence in the woods, Ezra comments that whoever lives here really wants to keep people out, as they watch James waits for a large double gate to open before he drives in.
As Aria’s cell phone beeps with an incoming text, Ezra reads over it before asking Aria who Andrew is. Before Aria has a chance to answer, Emily tells them that they have to go, and after Emily gets from the car, Ezra and Aria share a look, before they to get from the car and run towards the closing double gates.
- The gates close before Aria and Ezra can get through, separating them from Emily.
- Emily comments that Aria and Ezra were behind her, and as Aria tells Emily to stay right there, Ezra mentions that he’s going to try and find another way onto the property.
- Looking around, Emily comments that it looks as though the fence goes around the whole place, before saying perhaps she could just take a look around.
Aria tells Emily no, “we’re not letting you go in there by yourself”, to which Emily tells Aria she’ll be fine. Ezra reminds Emily she has no idea whose in the woods or the house, but Emily tells Ezra that by the time he and Aria find a way to get in the property, Neilan could be gone and he came here for a reason, and don’t they want to know what it is.
- Watching as Emily turns and heads down the gravel track, Ezra tells Aria to “come on” and they head down the boundary line to find a way in.
- Walking along the boundary, Aria explains that he’s been helping her study, “Andrew”, and that’s why he was so excited to hear she did so well on the test.
- Saying that it’s good to hear that Andrew is supporting her, Ezra listens as Aria mentions that she needs to keep her grades up if she wants to keep her spot at SCAD, to which Ezra says that Emily mentioned that, “congratulations”.
As Aria thanks him, Ezra says he’s surprised she didn’t tell him that herself and Aria tells him that she meant to, “it’s just been a crazy week”. Ezra comments that it’s good to know that she’s not avoiding him, to which Aria wonders why she would, before suggesting that it’s probably best if they split up.
When Ezra looks towards her, Aria explains that they’ll cover more territory that way. Asking Ezra to call her if she finds a way in, Aria turns and starts walking back in the opposite direction. Meeting back up with Aria, Ezra tells her that he’s circled the entire property, “there’s no way we’re getting over that security fence”, to which Aria tells him that she’s calling Emily.
Aria tells Ezra that Emily’s not picking up, and noticing the double gates open, they duck behind the bushes. Watching as James Neilan leaves the property, Aria and Ezra come out of hiding when they notice Emily follow the car out. Emily tells them that it’s Varjak’s house, and when Ezra questions that Neilan is Varjak, Emily says no, but Neilan is working for Varjak.
Aria’s cell phone beeps, and when she reacts to what she’s read, Emily questions what the message said, to which Aria tells Ezra and Emily that Hanna’s been arrested. At the Rosewood Police Department, Ezra listens as Caleb tells Aria and Emily that they have to show Tanner all of the pictures and all of the texts on their phones.
Ezra then notes that if the girls do, Tanner will have no choice but to believe Hanna. As Emily says that should wait for Spencer to get back in the morning, Aria and Emily’s cell phones beep with an incoming text. Emily reads the text aloud, “let’s all start with a clean slate.
–A”, before Aria comments that all the text ‘A’ sent her are gone. Emily notes that hers are as well, and when Caleb questions that they’ve got nothing to help Hanna, Emily says that there is one thing. Aria and Ezra listen as Emily says she found a receipt at Varjak’s, and handing it Ezra, she explains that the receipt doesn’t just have his name on it, it also has his phone number.
Ezra concludes that either Varjak is ‘A’, or Varjak is working for A, but nonetheless, the receipt could help Hanna. Sitting down on a park seat next to Aria, Ezra listens as Aria thanks him for meeting her, before he mentions that he brought her a muffin, “I can’t promise it’s any good because I’m trying out this new chef”.
- Smiling as she takes the muffin, Aria listens as Ezra wonders if she’s figured out when she’d be able to see Hanna, to which Aria tells him that it won’t be for a few days, “she still has to be fully processed first”.
- Aria then mentions that she couldn’t sleep at all last night, she just kept thinking about how scared Hanna must be all alone in there.
Saying that Hanna’s really strong, “I think she’s going to be okay until her mom gets her out on bail”, Ezra listens as Aria says that’s if Ashley gets her out on bail. A silence falls between them, and breaking that silence, Aria mentions that yesterday Ezra asked if she’d been avoiding him.
Ezra comments that they don’t have to talk about this now, but Aria tells him that she needs to, and seeing him made her realize that. Does Ezra betray Aria?
He Keeps Betraying Aria – The PLL characters aren’t always lucky in love, and Ezra keeps betraying Aria. He isn’t always the best boyfriend. He doesn’t even seem interested in Aria anymore, as he’s totally consumed by Nicole’s disappearance and all of the drama surrounding it.
