Why is Charlie Mullins famous

Answered By: Nicholas Brown Date: created: Jan 08 2024

Sidney Charles Mullins OBE (born 28 October 1952) is a British businessman. He is the founder of Pimlico Plumbers, London’s largest independent plumbing company, which he sold in 2021.

What does Charlie Mullins do?

Entrepreneur, media commentator, columnist & founder of Pimlico Plumbers – Former plumbing apprentice Charlie Mullins OBE is the archetypal entrepreneur having started Pimlico Plumbers from scratch in 1979 and building it into a multi-million-pound enterprise, which he sold in 2021 for more than £140m.

Who is Charlie on unbreakable?

Pimlico Plumbers founder Charlie Mullins, 69, hints at tying the knot with his girlfriend Rachel Leavesley, 38. two years after meeting on BBC1’s Unbreakable – Published: 16:56 BST, 14 October 2022 | Updated: 16:57 BST, 14 October 2022 Wedding bells are ringing for Charlie Mullins, the 69-year-old rooster-haired former boss and founder of Pimlico Plumbers — who has given me the wink that he has proposed marriage to his singer girlfriend of nearly two years, RaRa.

  1. This will be third time lucky for Mullins.
  2. RaRa, real name Rachel Leavesley, is 38 years his junior and they met on a beach in Marbella, Spain,
  3. Neither seem in the slightest bit fazed by the age gap, or his marital history, and say that they have never been closer since competing on the BBC1 relationships show Unbreakable.

Wedding bells: Pimlico Plumbers founder Charlie Mullins, 69, hints at tying the knot with his girlfriend Rachel Leavesley, 38 That was filmed when they were a mere eight months into their romance, and their joint bungee jump was the highlight of episode one — although the show has its critics to say the least.

  1. Charlie said: ‘I have a lovely partner and she has made my life better and better.
  2. She’s such a natural, beautiful lady.
  3. ‘We found out that we have so much in common on the show.
  4. ‘Do I think about getting married? Yes of course I do, it is on my mind.
  5. What can I tell you? Watch this space — there is a big surprise coming.’ Trying again: This will be third time lucky for Mullins.

RaRa, real name Rachel Leavesley, is 38 years his junior and they met on a beach in Marbella, Spain. The couple live together in a £10 million Thames-side apartment in London. Mullins sold Pimlico Plumbers last year and is now pursuing a career as a media personality, which he greatly enjoys.

He tells me: ‘People do recognise me for the hair these days and call me Rod (after Rod Stewart) which I don’t mind at all.’ The secret of the ‘barnet’ is a simple session with the hairdryer and ‘some gel or whatever you call it’ and then he says: ‘RaRa ruffles my hair.’ Rod? ‘People do recognise me for the hair these days and call me Rod (after Rod Stewart) which I don’t mind at all,’ he explained Mullins has just filmed a pilot for a show called the Naked Millionaire which starts with him, yes naked, in a flat, although he assures me he wears clothes for the rest of it.

The idea of the show is that he has to build a business up from zero, showing his years of experience in the industry. While he also hinted that there is also a possible reality TV show with him and RaRa. In te works? After meeting on TV, Charlie has also hinted that there is also a possible reality TV show with him and RaRa

Who is the plumber that became a millionaire

Answered By: Blake Jenkins Date: created: Mar 04 2024

Living the high life – As well as living a life of luxury in London, the couple spend a lot of time abroad at their other homes. Charlie says, “We’ve got three villas in Spain, we’re purchasing an apartment in Dubai and a new barn in the Cotswolds.” The pair aren’t strangers to a luxury holiday either and regularly stay in the Burj Al Arab, a seven-star, £5,000-a-night hotel in Dubai.

  • Charlie says, “We live an unbelievable life.
  • We’ve got a few Rolls-Royces and some Bentleys.
  • I just don’t see the point in making lots of money and not enjoying it.” You might think that marrying a multi-millionaire and never having to worry about money again would be a dream come true, but Raquel says she found Charlie’s wealth hard to get her head around at first.

Charlie and Raquel are hoping to get married this year ( Tim Merry / Reach Magazines) “The transition was hard for me. I’ve been open and honest about that. I was brought up well and I didn’t come from a big money background. But my dad made a good living from plumbing,” she says.

  • I’ve still got that desire in me to earn money – to work.
  • My desire to write music is to get a message across to people about certain things like authenticity and break-ups.
  • That would be my way of connecting to people.
  • My little business with my music I’ll make sure it will make money for both of us so I can look after my family and the people around me.” And a song that’s very close to Raquel’s heart is one she wrote for Charlie while they were taking part in Unbreakable,

“I know my way around a piano. I’m no expert like Elton John but I wrote it within three days. We’ve just re-recorded it at Dean Street Studios and we’re talking about releasing it. I might perform it at our wedding!” she tells us. And her biggest fan will be right by her side as she pursues her dream.

How did Charlie Mullins make his millions?

How did Charlie Mullins build his net worth? – Pimlico Plumbers, the plumbing company he founded, is the source of his fortune. Right from the start, he followed the money. Instead of setting up his plumbing business in his local area, he targeted the wealthy Pimlico district.

  • As he has said many times, he “followed the money”.
  • It was a shrewd move.
  • Within 9 years, sales had reached £900,000 a year.
  • By 2013, it was turning over £19 million.
  • Around that time around 9% of all plumbing work in London was carried out by Pimlico Plumbers.
  • When he sold 90% of the business in September 2021, it was turning over circa £53.7 million.

Charlie always worked to make the business pay in every possible way, a habit that led him to take an innovative approach. For example, many of the company’s vehicles had plumbing-themed personalised number plates such as W4TER, DRA 1N, and BOG 1. This clever marketing ploy helped his vans to stand out from the competition, boosted brand awareness, and was also a shrewd investment since they eventually ended up being valued at £1.5 million.

  1. In 2015, he published the story of how he built his plumbing business from scratch.
  2. Part business guide, part memoir, the book is still selling and generating revenue.
  3. Charlie has always invested in property.
  4. In 2003, he spent around €2 million on two exclusive villas in Torrenueva, Granada, Spain.
  5. In 2021, he put his £4.75 million Hutton Mount, Essex home on the market.

He also owns an £8 million, six-bedroom London penthouse with views of the Thames that stretch from the London Eye to Big Ben. This famous businessman splits his time between Spain and the UK. When in Spain he prefers to stay in his largest villa, one of 9 villas located in an exclusive gated community in La Calla, near Marbella, which he bought for £14 million.

  • Mullins can’t stay away from plumbing.
  • Despite selling 90% of Pimlico Plumbers to Neighborly, the American home services firm, for between £125 million and £145 million, he is currently in the process of building another plumbing company based in Marbella, Spain.
  • Many of his former clients live in the area and there is a large community of wealthy ex-pats that like the idea of using the services of a company they already know and trust.

Charlie spends a lot of time in Spain — hence the tan — but still has strong connections with the UK. He regularly flies between the two countries, for example, to film a TV show or record an interview. Sometimes he uses scheduled flights, most often from and to London City airport, but he also has access to his private jet.

Why are Pimlico Plumbers famous?

Publicity – It is known for its effective publicity, handled by Recognition PR. It was previously handled by, The company owns more than 100 plumbing-related number plates, fitted to its fleet of vehicles, such as LO 02 OLD (Loo too old), BOG1, DRA1N, W4TER and others.

How old are Charlie and RaRa?

There might be a 38-year age gap between Charlie Mullins, 70, and Raquel Reno, 32, but the chemistry between them is real and it’s clear that they’re absolutely besotted with each other as they discuss their upcoming wedding plans with OK! Charlie, who’s been married twice before, tells us that they’ve picked a certain St Paul’s Cathedral in London as their venue, saying, “We’re allowed to do that because I’ve got an OBE.

There’s a year’s waiting list but there can be cancellations so we’re hoping it’s going to happen this year.” They will certainly have the funds for a grand affair – the businessman made a whopping £145 million back in 2021 when he sold Pimlico Plumbers, the company he’d started at the age of 27. “I’ve never actually been to St Paul’s Cathedral,” admits aspiring recording artist Raquel.

“So he’s promised he’ll take me.” Charlie and Raquel will marry at St Paul’s Cathedral Charlie shares that he’s also keen to start a family with Raquel, when we shoot them at their London penthouse apartment. “On the children side, we’re practising! That’s all in the pipeline and we don’t want it to affect Raquel’s career but people have babies and they still carry on on the stage,” he explains.

Their plan to expand their family could be one of the main motivations for Charlie being so keen to buy the apartment above him, which is currently occupied by none other than Tom Jones. Charlie explains that he’d like to get planning permission to put a staircase in to connect the two flats, which would result in poor Tom – who the couple describe as being “very private” – being out on his ear.

But the star isn’t too worried, joking, “Well he’s got $300 million, he can buy the block!” The couple are planning children Charlie and Raquel’s fairy-tale romance began at Andy’s Beach Bar in Marbella, back in September 2020, where Charlie has a villa. The singer recalls the moment she first set eyes on him and laughs as she tells us her opening line.

“I said, ‘Oi! Are you Rod Stewart?!’ I’d definitely had a few gin and tonics by this point. But I particularly liked his crocodile shoes.” The pair were just good friends for 10 months and romance didn’t blossom until Raquel moved into the spare room in the penthouse, which Charlie had offered up as a place for her to stay when she came to London.

Raquel says, “I think we became inseparable and if he was anywhere socialising with anyone he’d always invite me and vice versa.” When we ask what the secret to their relationship is, Charlie doesn’t hesitate. “It’s definitely not a secret but Raquel’s funny and she’s got a good sense of humour and I have too,” he explains. Charlie Mullins and fiancee Raquel don’t take themselves too seriously Laughs aside, Charlie and Raquel, who were a huge hit with viewers on the BBC show Unbreakable – where celeb couples compete to prove they’re the perfect pair – also share a huge amount of drive.

  1. We’re both serious about work,” Charlie tells us.
  2. Raquel’s 100% into her singing.
  3. She is managed by the former manager of Girls Aloud, Hillary Shaw, and she’s going to get to the top.
  4. I’m the same, whether it be in business or another project.
  5. I’m not a follower, I’m a leader and it’s the same with Raquel.

Who is the richest plumber in the UK?

He’s richest plumber in UK, now Charlie Mullins is going into politics Updated: 21:50 BST, 22 October 2022 Seller’s remorse: Charlie Mullins criticises the US firm that bought him out Britain’s richest plumber Charlie Mullins thinks he has the answer to the capital’s congestion – scrap cycle lanes.

‘They lie empty and penalise motorists,’ he says. Cyclists, in his opinion ‘rarely run big successful businesses’ and therefore make only a marginal contribution to the City’s wealth generation, says the London-born founder of Pimlico Plumbers. His own blue Bentley, with personalised number plates, is in the car park of the pub where he is holding court.

It’s one of a few rants running freely in the alcove of the West Sussex hostelry: from the ‘nonsense’ of working from home, to the current Government ‘shambles’ which has tested the entrepreneur’s lifelong Tory allegiance and put the brakes on his party donations.

  • Liz Truss’s resignation came as a relief for Mullins, 69, whose hopes of a Margaret Thatcher 2.0 were dashed by the policy U-turns on a mini-Budget that initially impressed him.
  • ‘Lowering corporation tax offered a strong incentive for business to invest, and reversing it showed weakness and lost people’s confidence,’ he says.

He would welcome Sajid Javid as her replacement and Rishi Sunak as Chancellor. ‘When somebody makes mistakes or is not the person for the job, the quicker they go the better. But whoever becomes leader, the party needs to start backing them and drinking from the same tea pot.

  1. They can turn it around if they’re honest, direct and stand by their decisions.’ Straight talking is of course his own modus operandi.
  2. Not that he would fancy the top job himself, citing the damage of Brexit and Boris’s misdemeanours as too much of a challenge.
  3. His frustrations could soon be channelled into direct action when he stands in the next London mayoral election in 2024, though admittedly he is an unlikely winner.

With a £210million fortune and some strong opinions, he has flirted with politics before, notably as a business adviser to David Cameron during the coalition years. Yet only now, following the £145million sale of his business to US home services giant Neighborly last September, does he feel better placed to pursue his ambitions.

  • ‘If the Tories have a brain, they’ll sign me up but I’ll probably run as an independent,’ he says, with his sparkling white teeth and a deep tan befitting a self-made millionaire who flits between his £10million Thames penthouse and a villa in Marbella.
  • ‘I was going to run before, but I knew that with every policy and idea I’d been trying to put in place, people would say it’s just to benefit my own business.

Now I feel I’ve got more of a free rein.’ It’s hard to imagine Mullins holding back from anything he wants to do. Recognition from fellow drinkers is met with a cheery raise of his pint. He says people know him wherever he goes. ‘Happens all over the world.

There aren’t many plumbers that can say that.’ The business which began as a one-man band in a basement in 1979 with a second-hand van has been a triumph of brand power, with Mullins a willing public face. From the outset, the mission was to bring more professionalism to an industry marred by tradesmen ‘turning up late with their a*** hanging out of their trousers’.

By contrast, Pimlico’s workforce wore uniforms and drove branded vans while its publicity-friendly founder invested heavily in marketing. That, says Mullins, achieved a visibility that remains unmatched by rivals ‘other than maybe Dyno-Rod’ and resulted in a 9 per cent share of London’s domestic plumbing market.

  1. Business was booming with a million-pound-a-week turnover when he sold up, buoyed by a strong performance during the pandemic.
  2. This he credited to a quick response, including a ‘no jab, no job’ employment policy for any new starters.
  3. Ending on a high, he insists it was the right time to leave, though with an original target of a £100million turnover, there is perhaps, a sense of unfinished business.

‘Not thinking nationally will always be a regret. We dominated London, but we could’ve done so much more,’ he says. ‘I think it would have taken another five years to make headway with that. I’ve done it all my life – my son had been there for 30 years – and we agreed it needed new blood and ideas.’ That said, there is more than a hint of seller’s remorse.

He picked Neighborly, a franchise specialist owned by US private equity firm KKR, because it offered the highest price. But he embarks on a stream of criticism, including claims that long-serving staff are leaving. Would he do it all again? ‘I couldn’t rule out a Pimlico Plumbers 2 – not with me, but if family members wanted to get back into the trade, I’d support them with a new set-up.

There are always people willing to pay for quality and there’s still a massive skills shortage in the trade.’ Budding star: Mullins is backing fiancee Rachel Leavesley’s music career Mullins is evangelical on the merits of apprenticeship. His own in plumbing at the age of 15, having left school with no qualifications, was the making of him.

  • He recalls suggesting that David Cameron should transfer the money used to pay unemployment benefits to apprenticeships, in order to provide higher wages for trainees.
  • He believes this would be timely now during employment skills crisis.
  • ‘I was told it would be too expensive but then what about the cost of crime? You don’t get people going to work who are stabbing people in the street.

When a youngster has a job it changes everything.’ It’s a mission he’ll revisit if ever he became mayor, along with providing free travel for apprentices. Meanwhile he’s mixing business with pleasure, principally in the entertainment world. He has invested in Great British Radio, a new commercial station based in Southampton.

He is also backing the music career of his fiancee Rachel Leavesley, known as RaRa, who has appeared as a Katy Perry tribute act. He enthuses over a burgeoning acquaintance with music mogul Simon Cowell, who he met on the charity circuit and says was ‘kind enough to talk to us and give advice.’ And he’s full of enthusiasm for various reality shows he signed up to, including one called Naked Millionaire.

The mind boggles, but details are mercifully sketchy. Is he really planning to appear on TV in the buff? In the world of Charlie Mullins, nothing is impossible. Some links in this article may be affiliate links. If you click on them we may earn a small commission.

How old is RaRa in unbreakable

Answered By: Bernard Cook Date: created: Sep 19 2024

Fairly desperate: BBC1’s Unbreakable reviewed On first impression, you might have thought that Unbreakable was just a fairly desperate reality show cobbled together from I’m a Celebrity, Mr and Mrs, Taskmaster and It’s a Knockout. After all, the format is that people of varying degrees of fame – from Simon Weston to, er, the bloke who presents MTV’s Celebs on the Farm – arrive with their partners at what presenter Rob Beckett calls ‘a big posh gaff in the country’.

You might be interested:  Who Is The Footballer Arrested Today?

Once there, they’re made to perform a series of game-like tasks as Rob looks on and guffaws. Naturally, the series does make a few cunning tweaks to its obvious forebears. Unlike in Taskmaster, for example, some of the tasks are extremely boring. Unlike Stuart Hall, Rob has yet to perfect the art of sounding genuinely amused when somebody falls into some water – rather than, say, stuck with a job that will soon have him making an angry call to his agent.

But naturally, too, the familiar traits of the dodgy lookalike celeb show are firmly in place: among them, the constant reminders of what tremendous fun we’re having, the clever use of Grieg’s ‘Morning’ to signify morning, and the abiding sense that the whole thing has been made to supply clips for Gogglebox,

  • Cue the bungee jump.) He took a stern line on any questions that he suspected of attempting to get him to ‘blub on camera’ Except that this is not how Unbreakable sees itself at all.
  • As befits its otherwise baffling BBC1 status, it’s apparently a programme with a serious purpose: to discover and pass on ‘the secrets of a strong relationship’.

And to prove it, Rob is joined by two authorities on the subject. One is the improbably telegenic ‘relationship psychologist’ Anjula Mutanda, whose credentials were briskly established in Thursday’s opening episode by shots of her in an armchair holding a clipboard.

Does Charlie still have a girlfriend?

Aside from his catchy tunes, Charlie Puth is known for his past public romances. Since releasing his debut single, “Marvin Gaye” alongside Meghan Trainor, the New Jersey native has been romantically linked to some famous faces over the years. In fact, fans even wondered if he and Meghan were friends or something more after they locked lips on stage during the 2015 American Music Awards,

Despite relationship rumors, Charlie has since set the record straight about their steamy smooch. “Meghan and I are good enough friends that we can laugh about it now,” the singer told USA Today in November 2015. “At first, we were like, ‘Holy (expletive), what did we just do?’ I have a girl kind of in my life right now that I’m not making too public and I don’t want people to get the wrong idea.

But without Meghan’s initial push, I wouldn’t really be anywhere. Meghan really helped me by being featured on my first record.” Charlie further explained the lead-up to their kiss, noting, “I didn’t know people would care about my lips on my friend’s lips so much.” “When we were doing it live, we were like, ‘OK, this is one of the more major live performances.

  • How are we visually going to show this and make it as impactful as the video?” he recalled to the newspaper.
  • We were like, ‘Should we kiss?’ Meghan is literally like my best friend, so it was a little weird at first, but it added something to the visual element of the performance, for sure, and that’s an important part of it since America was watching.” Meghan isn’t the only duet partner that Charlie has been linked to.

After releasing their 2016 song “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” fans were convinced that he dated Selena Gomez, which is something he’s since addressed. The “See You Again” musician has also been linked to Charlotte Lawrence, Bella Thorne and Halston Sage in the past.

  1. He’s also admitted to having a huge crush on Little Mix member Jade Thirlwall when they collaborated on the song “Oops.” “Me and Jade had a bit of a look on The X Factor,
  2. She’s in a relationship I found out that night,” Charli recalled on the “Bizarre Life” podcast in November 2017.
  3. I was on stage singing with them and was like, ‘Oh Jade, she’s so sexy.’ She’s so lovely, well she’s taken.

I will say she’s taken and I’m glad she’s happy.” While the music star has been tight-lipped about his dating status in recent years, Charlie revealed in October 2022 that he was in a relationship with an unnamed significant other — who has since been identified as his now-fiancée Brooke Sansone,

” someone that I grew up with,” he shared on The Howard Stern Show at the time. “She’s always been very, very nice to me and I would assume that when times inevitably are hard in the future, because what is life without valleys and peaks, she would be there for me as well.” Scroll through our gallery for a complete breakdown of Charlie’s love life.

Answered By: Oliver Hughes Date: created: Aug 13 2023

How One Former Janitor Amassed an $8 Million Fortune When we hear stories about people leaving behind estates valued in the millions, occupations such as investment bankers, lawyers, or surgeons come to mind. When it comes to the legacy of Ronald Read, however, it comes to show that a job title only goes so far toward potentially amassing a fortune.

  1. As reported by, Ronald Read was a retired janitor and gas station attendant based in Vermont before his passing in 2015.
  2. Remembered by those in his community as a humble, hardworking and good-natured individual, people were shocked to hear his estate was valued at $8 million.
  3. Read had little-to-no similarities to a stereotypical millionaire — he didn’t drive around flashy cars or live in a luxurious mansion.

Instead, his story to financial success came from remarkable discipline and willpower, which those around him specified further in retrospect: Frugal Habits For Read, it went beyond just keeping a budget. He was fully committed to the frugality lifestyle.

Examples included his dedication to driving second-hand cars, chopping his own firewood at the age of 90, and even patching his old coats together with safety pins instead of purchasing a new one. One of his friends speculated Read was capable of saving 80 percent of his income any-given-week. Wise Investments The Wall Street Journal did an analysis of Read’s portfolio after he passed, and they discovered several multi-decade investments that provided remarkable gain over the years.

Stocks included P&G, Colgate-Palmolive, and Wells Fargo. For Read, the strategy of pinpointing companies that were deemed overlooked or undervalued but keeping faith regardless showed remarkable volume benefits over the long-term. Lifespan While far less controllable compared to the aforementioned categories, Read was able to gain much of the fortune he left behind in the latter years of his life, both through the commitment to investments and by working far longer than an average retiree.
