Many wrongly believe that he lacks in integrity and expect that he will break the law to win; these incorrect assumptions helped him win a case by bluffing the opposing counsel into believing he was willing to commit perjury to win, while having no such intention whatsoever.

In stark contrast to the methods of Louis Litt, Specter strongly prefers out-of-court settlements over going to court; Harvey’s longstanding belief is that a courtroom has too many variables for him to be able to control, a tenet that was instilled into him by DA Cameron Dennis, his mentor. Despite the fact that Jessica Pearson, his immediate superior, is more cautious and favors lower risk over greater reward, Specter often ignores her instructions, openly challenges her decisions, and generally does as he wants.

While Harvey’s methods often result in greater profit for the firm than Pearson’s preferred strategy, his risk-taking tends to perpetuate her belief that he needs to remain on a leash. Pearson Hardman have successfully won their 45 cases against Folsom Foods in the time between this episode and the last. With Jessica Pearson ‘s decision to merge with Darby International not sitting well with Harvey Specter, he enlists Mike Ross ‘ help to find three lawsuits against Edward Darby ‘s clients. As the merger hasn’t gone through yet, Harvey decides to represent the clients on the other side of Darby and face off against Darby, with the deal being that if Harvey wins, the merger doesn’t happen and Jessica ends up making him name partner; if Harvey loses, Darby becomes name partner and he will welcome Darby with open arms. However, Darby appoints Dana Scott, citing that it is tradition to allow “number two” to handle it, and Harvey appoints Mike, his number two, to face off against Scottie. Louis Litt clashes with his British counterpart, Nigel Nesbitt, and the the two are tasked with compiling an efficiency list for the merger. Realizing that their shared positions create a redundancy, leading one of them to be let go, Nigel proposes that he and Louis leave each other off their list. However, Louis is unable to sacrifice the integrity of his list while Nigel adheres to their verbal deal. Due to his work on the merger, Louis has access to confidential information regarding Darby’s case, which he hands off to Harvey in order to prevent the merger altogether, having being notified of Harvey’s plan by Donna Paulsen, Harvey passes on the internal documents to Mike, although he is impeded by Jessica. Scottie reveals that Harvey’s brother became ill when Harvey was at Harvard Law School and that Harvey used his tuition to cover the medical expenses. When Harvey’s mother found out, she attempted to pay Harvey back, who refused to accept her money. She then gave the money to Harvey’s brother for him to pay back. Scottie reveals to Donna that she is in love with Harvey and that the reason she brought Darby International over was so that she could gain Harvey’s attention. Donna convinces her to make sacrifices for her love, and Scottie does so by handing her case work to Mike, thus losing her chance to be promoted to name partner. With Scottie throwing in the towel, Mike can ensure that Harvey wins the case. However, Jessica threatens to expose Mike’s fraud to District Attorney Terrence Wolf, and Mike relents.

Harvey informs Donna that he cannot trust Scottie because she slept with him while being engaged to another man, citing that he made that man look like a fool. Donna realizes this is because Harvey’s mother cheated on his father, and tells Harvey that he needs to let go of the past. Harvey lashes out at Mike for betraying him, firing him as his associate and leaving Mike to return to the associate pool. He then decides to fire Mike from the firm, but Jessica vetoes his termination, allowing Mike to stay. Jessica expresses her apologies that she does not have the means to reinstate his position, but comforts him by giving him a choice to mentor any associate of his choosing. Excited, Louis goes to see Donna to see if Harvey would be okay with Mike being his new associate.

1. After an amusing conversation regarding Louis’ senior prom, Harvey tells Louis that he can make Mike his new associate and promises will not regret giving him permission.
2. Jessica goes to see Cameron Davis to clarify that in their previous encounter, she was the one who went against him and Harvey didn’t betray him.

When Cameron is still upset about the matter, Jessica realizes he wasn’t upset that Harvey might have betrayed him, but that ultimately when Harvey left the DA’s office he chose Jessica over him. Cameron tells her that he resents that Harvey chose what Jessica stands for, someone who lets “bad guys do whatever they want” as opposes to him who puts them away.

He then reaches for a disc which he hands to Jessica, claiming that it holds proof of Ava Hessington’s guilt. In his endeavor to convince Mike to become his new associate, Louis has taken him to a restaurant with amazing food and introduces him to the owner as a client. Louis explains to Mike that the restaurant is currently in the middle of an eminent domain case, and if they lose, this restaurant will be converted into a shopping center.

Mike points out that eminent domain cases are infamously unwinnable, as Louis replies in the affirmative and expresses his view that this is an opportunity for them to rewrite the law, which Mike expresses his interest in. Jessica returns to the firm and is met with Harvey who is infuriated that she went to see Cameron Dennis, as it painted the picture that Harvey cannot face Cameron by himself.

• Jessica clarifies that he is fighting Cameron WITH him and not for him, as the two agree to work together on the case.
• Jessica hands him the disk that Cameron gave to review.
• Together with Ava, they watch the footage on the disc, which shows Ava’s second in charge showing a colonel a briefcase full of cash.

As there is no audio on the disk, they clarify that if the audio did exist, it would not show either party explicitly mentioning anything about a bribe. Since this would not be enough evidence for Cameron to use, Harvey wonders if the colonel in the video would testify, but Jessica refutes this as the colonel is still a foreign leader and cannot be deposed.

This leads them to the conclusion that Cameron instead has convinced Nick, Ava’s second in charge and protégé to testify against her instead, confirmed when Nick refuses to answer Ava’s call. Ava is furious at her protege’s betrayal, and Harvey tells her he empathizes with her situation after Mike’s betrayal.

Ava suggests bribing Nick into not testifying, making Harvey realize that this was Cameron’s endgame: he wants to catch them in the act of attempting to bribe Nick. Harvey goes to see Nick, who claims he did not initially want to testify, but believes he has no choice.

After confirming that Nick does care about Ava, Harvey tells him that without his testimony Cameron does not have a case and that going through with betraying her would prove to be the biggest regret of his life. Mike finds Louis in the library, who has been researching eminent domain cases since they returned.

Several hours later, Mike is still researching for the case, as Rachel tells him it is possible that Louis is attempting to recruit him to become his new associate. As Mike expresses disbelief, Louis enters with a trolley of lavish food items, prompting Rachel to smile as it confirms her suspicions.

Mike asks Louis how he managed to obtain all this food in the middle of the night, as Louis tells him that he is the firm’s quartermaster and has the means to do so. Mike tells Louis of an idea he had from Money Ball that could be used in the case, although he fears it is outside the scope of the case.

Louis is confident that Mike’s idea can be used however, as long as they can trick the opposing counsel to bring it into the scope first. The next day they attempt to do so, but is still unable to overrule the judge’s ruling. Undaunted, Louis tells Mike that this is not the time to be sorry, and takes Mike to his mudding treatment.

• Although uncomfortable, Mike obliges and is forced to enter his own tub of mud nude as Louis pointed out wearing his undergarments into the mud would mean not having them later.
• After settling into his tub, Mike asks Louis why he did not simply ask him to become his associate if he wanted him to.
• Louis replies that he is aware of how others see him, and wanted to remind him of the good that comes with working with him.

Mike assures him that he remembers the good times he had with Louis, but unfortunately also the bad times, particularly when Louis fired someone in front of him on his first day just to scare him. Louis reassures Mike that since then, Mike has helped him change and want to become a better person.

Their conversation inspires Mike of an idea on how to win the case, prompting Louis to stand up abruptly from his tub of mud while nude, as he refuses to “mix mudding with pleasure”. They call for a meeting before the judge to point out that after a revised valuation, the restaurant is worth potentially 100 million dollars.

The opposing counsel argues that this value cannot be guaranteed, but Louis points out that the opposing counsel’s argument relies on a similar hypothetical, as the judge decides to give a ruling the next day. The following night, Louis goes to Mike’s apartment to tell him the judge ruled in their favor, and tells Mike the difference between him and Harvey is that Harvey is only a lawyer as he likes to win, while Louis himself loves the law.

Mike tells him he loves the law himself, but also loves wining, prompting Louis say he believes that Mike is half Harvey and also half like Louis, now that he has spent time as Harvey’s associate it could now be time for Mike to see what it is like to be Louis’ associate. Meanwhile, Rachel attempts to warn Donna that Louis is attempting to have Mike become his new associate but she is already aware, and so is Harvey.

Rachel asks if Donna would be willing to convince Harvey to change his mind, but Donna refuses as she is also of the opinion that Mike betrayed Harvey and should not be forgiven. Rachel tells Mike of their argument, prompting Mike to be upset as by asking Donna to help him with Harvey, it gives off the impression that he is weak, especially if it comes from Rachel.

1. When she asks why it would be especially bad coming from her, Mike confesses that Harvey did not approve of their relationship.
2. After further prompting, he also confesses that it was the initial reason they did not get together initially, as Mike did not want to have a relationship with Rachel without telling her the truth, something which Harvey forbid him form doing.

Infuriated, Rachel expresses her contempt for Harvey, and after Mike attempts to defend him, she tells him Harvey is aware of Louis wanting Mike to become his new associate and gave his approval. Upset, Mike asks Harvey what it would take to be forgiven, but Harvey instead points out the numerous wrongdoings that Mike did while working for him and asks why he told Rachel.

• Mike tells him this was after Harvey fired him, and Rachel was the only person who was there for him.
• Thinking Harvey sent him to work with Louis as punishment, Mike tells him that he actually enjoys working with Louis and is considering becoming his accomplice.
• Harvey insists that he is in fact indifferent to Mike’s situation, and could not care about Mike anymore as their relationship is now over.

Harvey goes to the roof to have a drink, as Jessica attempts to approach him. Realizing he is still resentful, Jessica gives him an analogy of how in every rift, both sides will be convinced that the other side started the problem. The two begin to argue about who began this rift between them, as Harvey asks her to tell the truth, to which she complies and admits that she didn’t fight to get him on the Hessington case, Darby did, but she used it as an opportunity to reconcile with Harvey.

1. He asks her if she would do it all again, as she changes the subject to the deposition with Cameron tomorrow.
2. The next day, the two arrive with Ava at Cameron’s office, as Cameron tells them that Ava’s competitor has footage of her bribing the colonel, who in turn gave it to her shareholders who want to file a lawsuit against her.

Cameron tells them Harvey’s attempt to appeal to Nick sentimentally failed, and asks Jessica what she did to the person he mentored in the DA’s office. Harvey comes to Jessica’s defense that Cameron was never his mentor: only Jessica was. During the deposition, Nick gives his testimony on how he and Ava bribed a colonel.

Harvey and Jessica instead, put in a new perspective: that Nick alone was responsible for bribing the colonel, and now that it has come to light, he is attempting to pass the blame to Ava. Cameron tells them this is irrelevant to the deposition, to which Harvey tells him this is a taste of what would happen in court if Nick were to testify, especially since Nick is unable to look at Ava without an expression of guilt.

Later that night, Cameron goes to Harvey to tell him he will still manage to win in trial, before Harvey calls his bluff and Cameron admits that he is under orders to make a deal. Harvey tells him the only deal they will accept if it is only a fine with no admission of guilt, which Cameron reveals was the deal he was told to make with one adjustment at his prompting: Ava is to admit to being guilty of bribery, making it official that Cameron has still beaten Harvey.

1. In Jessica’s office, Harvey tells her he refuses to take the deal, something which Jessica suggests they do since it is practically the same deal with only a single technical change, something which Darby would consider to be acceptable.
2. Harvey still refuses to take the deal, prompting Jessica to answer his earlier question: she would indeed do everything she has done again, even though it caused a rift between them.

She also tells him they have already accepted the deal, behind his back. Rachel confronts Donna about Harvey forbidding Mike from telling her, as Donna tries to explain it was for Rachel’s protection as well. Rachel expresses disbelief, since Harvey hardly knows who she is as if he did, he would know she would never tell anyone Mike’s secret.

Donna then tells her that if she wanted to be angry at Harvey for his decision, she should be mad at her too since she also told Mike the same thing: specifically that Mike should have gotten over Rachel, even after Rachel had told her then about her feelings for Mike. Rachel accuses Donna of choosing Harvey over her, which she confirms, but insists that it is part of her job, prompting Rachel to comment how everyone cares about their job but have no life, something she implies is inclusive of Donna, prompting the latter to walk out of the room.

Later that night, Mike goes to Rachel’s apartment where they both apologize for their earlier argument. Mike tells her that Louis has asked him to become his new associate, and they spend the night together. The next day, Ava signs the deal as Harvey assures her that this is a good deal.

• She tells him she is aware it is, her only hesitation being that she will be returning to London without her protégé,
• When Harvey points out that Nick betrayed her, she points out however that Nick did not do so for personal gain, but because he had no other choice.
• As Harvey insists a betrayal is still a betrayal, she replies that regardless of his betrayal, she will still miss her protégé.

After she leaves, Donna enters to confirm if Harvey is still going through with overthrowing Jessica, something which he replies in the affirmative since she confirmed that she does not regret her actions. Donna then suggests that since the entire blame is on Jessica, perhaps they should consider forgiving Mike.

Mike enters Louis’ office to accept his offer of becoming his new associate, and the two begin quoting from the Jerry Maguire movie. Louis excitedly tells him that he has already prepared something to celebrate this and rushes out of his office. After Louis leaves, Harvey enters and quotes the movie with Mike as well, to show he has forgiven him.

As Mike tells him he cannot go back on his word to Louis, Harvey tells him it would not be going back on his word, just going back to where he belongs: as Harvey’s associate. Harvey tells Mike to take the night off to celebrate with Rachel, unaware that Louis is outside the office holding a cake.

Did Harvey go to his dad’s funeral

Harvey’s estrangement from his mother is something he’s been very open about. Ever since discovering at a young age that his mom, Lily, cheated multiple times on his father (who Harvey adored greatly) and then his mom asking Harvey to keep it a secret from his dad, the lawyer has faced many personal issues. • Harvey and his mom finally made peace.
• The episode opened with Harvey seven years ago going back to Boston for his father’s funeral.
• It was beyond heartbreaking for him, especially since he and his father were so close.
• Things became even more tense when Harvey came face-to-face with his mom at the funeral.

Firstly, he didn’t want his mom speaking at the funeral and saying anything about his father. Though Harvey’s brother Marcus helped him come to terms with it. Admittedly, Lily did give a touching speech, which focused on her ex-husband’s love for his sons.

It even caused Harvey to shed some tears. It looked like things were going well and Harvey was about to make things right with his mom at the wake, but before that could happen, her partner Bobby, whom she cheated on Harvey’s father with, showed up. During the Season 6 winter premiere, Donna told Harvey he needed to go make amends with his mom. After all these years, it was about time. For way too long, Harvey has let what Lily did eat him up inside, cause intense anger and affect his relationships.

Like Harvey usually does, he listened to Queen Donna and went to Boston. It took guts for Harvey to do what he did, and of course a reconciliation with Lily didn’t come easily. They had a stressful dinner causing Harvey to yet again walk away from his mom. At first, it didn’t seem like Harvey and Lily would find any common ground, but after Bobby lit into Harvey and Marcus told his brother that enough is enough, Harvey realized it was time to make things right.

As he told his mom, he doesn’t hate her, but he does hate what she did. Lily did apologize and feels truly sorry for hurting Harvey so badly. So that’s that and Harvey and Lily are once again in each other’s lives. It looks like Harvey can finally put all his mommy issues behind him and move in a positive direction both professionally and personally. We’re sure there will still be times when Harvey finds himself surrounded by drama and gets angry, but establishing a relationship with his mom just might be the key to a happier Harvey.

1. Plus, now that the void seems to be filled, this could also mean a Harvey and Donna relationship is on the horizon.
2. You can’t be truly happy with someone until you are happy with yourself, and it sure seems like this is the direction Harvey is heading.
3. Between his mom and Jessica, Harvey is slowly healing, so here’s hoping only good things are to come for him.

Former Manchester United star Yorke’s time in charge of the Bulls ended abruptly on Saturday night, less than 24 hours after a 1-0 loss to Adelaide United on Friday. Sources familiar with the dressing room spray, who spoke to the Herald on the condition of anonymity, said Yorke’s speech was delivered to Macarthur’s entire travelling squad, with chairman Gino Marra also witnessing the incident.

CEO Sam Krslovic was also present for part of the dressing down. The term “pub team” was used regarding a Macarthur team sitting sixth on the A-League ladder. Individual players are also understood to have been singled out for criticism by Yorke. According to those with knowledge of the incident, Marra intervened and attempted to stop Yorke’s address as he took aim at the professionalism and standards accepted across the Macarthur playing group, the club and A-League in general. Marra declined to address the incident when approached on Sunday. “We won’t be commenting on the circumstances of the mutual agreement reached between the club and Dwight Yorke on Saturday,” the Bulls chairman said in a statement, “Our focus is only on the next chapter of the club and appointing a new coach who we hope will deliver more success to our supporters.

We thank Dwight for his contribution to Macarthur FC and leading the club to the 2022 Australia Cup title,” Attempts to contact Yorke on Sunday via his agent Lou Sticca were unsuccessful. “Dwight is very proud of his time at Macarthur FC, winning the Australia Cup and qualifying for the Asian Champions League,” Sticca said.

Who is Harvey Price? – Harvey is Katie’s eldest child – born in May 2002. Harvey was born with the genetic disorder Prader-Willi syndrome. This condition leaves people feeling constantly hungry and can lead to diabetes and obesity. It also affects intellectual and behavioural development – he once dropped the C bomb live on TV,

2. He has a very close bond with his mum Katie and is known to make regular TV appearances alongside her on shows such as Good Morning Britain and Loose Women.
3. Last year, Harvey and Katie starred in their own BBC documentary, Harvey and Me, in which viewers got a closer look into the pair’s close relationship and its ups and downs as Harvey prepares to move out at 18.

Harvey has also released a book with Katie, titled, ‘Harvey & Me: A Mother’s Love’. Harvey’s dad is former professional footballer, Dwight York. Dwight was in a relationship with Katie Price from 2001-2002.

Did Dwight Yorke abandon Harvey

One thing that everyone can agree on when it comes to Katie Price is that she is a devoted mother to her eldest son Harvey Price. Harvey, 20, has Septo-optic Dysplasia, autism, and Prader-Willi syndrome which means he requires around the clock care. The mum-of-five shares an unbreakable bond with her son and has displayed her care and motherly instincts towards her son many times over the years.

However, little is known about Harvey’s relationship with his other parent, former international and Premier League footballer Dwight Yorke, 51. Katie fell pregnant with Harvey in 2001 while briefly dating Dwight but their relationship was short-lived after she allegedly found out that Dwight had cheated on her, the Mirror reports.

The glamour model recalled how she had been on a lingerie photoshoot when she heard that Dwight had been partying with other women. During an interview in 2009, Dwight addressed the allegations and admitted that he wasn’t the “perfect partner”. He added: “I think anyone who’s in a relationship would like their partner to be faithful and I’m saying I wasn’t the perfect partner, she knows that”. • However, his visits to his son became less frequent with Dwight admitting: “It is a combination of different things, one my time schedule and being based up in Manchester and a footballer on an everyday basis.

“Maybe if she had not made life so difficult for me, might have been able to take a far more proactive role.” Katie’s ex-husband Peter Andre previously wanted to adopt Harvey but Dwight was furious and wrote that he wanted to “throttle” him. Speaking of her ex in her 2014 autobiography, she said: “The last time Harvey’s biological father Dwight Yorke saw him, which was around eight years ago, the first thing he asked was why was Harvey so big. “Why was I overfeeding him? I’d explained Harvey’s condition to Dwight many times, but he refused to understand it and kept going on about him being fat.

“It’s sad that he’s unable to accept Harvey for who he is and seems unable or unwilling to work within his limitations. On that occasion, I think Dwight wanted to blame someone for the fact that his son is disabled. “I have always said that if Dwight could see what a courageous and talented boy Harvey is then he would enjoy being with him so much.” Katie claims she has tried on multiple occasions to reach out to Dwight over the years and insisted that it’s “never too late” to be in his son’s life. In November 2018, the mum-of-five shared a series of baby photos as she spoke of the struggle of bringing up a child with complex needs and told Dwight the “door is always open”.

• I don’t get it!” In 2020, Katie revealed her drastic plan to make sure Harvey and Dwight met face to face after alleged years of no contact.
• Chatting with pal Mel, Katie said: “What I would like to do is turn up at his dad’s place – Dwight Yorke’s – ring the doorbell and be there with Harvey, for him to see Harvey.

“That’s what I would like to do and I will do that. I think Dwight should start entering Harvey’s life, it’s been years.” Katie, who accuses Dwight of not seeing his son since he was four years old added: “I would love Dwight to come into contact with Harvey. In Katie’s 2021 book, Amy said: “I think it’s sad that Dwight isn’t in Harvey’s life. His agent has always been in contact with me.

“If Harvey isn’t well, she’ll message me and ask how he is. But Dwight never asks himself.” The year prior, Harvey was hospitalised and put into intensive care as he was so poorly and Dwight’s agent rang Amy to ask about “how bad he was”. Amy recalled: “I said, ‘Look, this has got to stop now.

• If Dwight wants to know about Harvey, he’s got our number and he should ring us himself”.
• She added: He shouldn’t be going through his agent.
• It’s about time he took some responsibility.
• But we’ve heard nothing from Dwight, which is a shame.

Early life – Born Katrina Amy Alexandra Alexis Infield in Brighton, East Sussex, in southeast England, Price was the only child of Ray and Amy Infield ( née Charlier). Her father left the family when she was four, and in 1988 her mother married builder Paul Price, after which she acquired his surname.

Why did Suits end

The Last Two Seasons – USA Network This left Aaron Korsh with a decision to make. After deciding that there would only be nine seasons, the last season was cut down to 10 episodes and all the remaining unresolved plots had to be concluded by then. This was a tricky task since Suits had burgeoned into a litany of subplots and other intricacies over the years.

To compensate, fresh characters were added through three brilliant new lawyers in Katrina Bennett (Amanda Schull), Alex Williams (Dulé Hill), and Samantha Wheeler (Katherine Heigl). All of them became popular characters, while the show still had some of its stalwarts in Harvey, Donna, and of course the unforgettable Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman).

Between them, and the fact that Mike returned for a recurring role, the show had all the ingredients it needed for its final two seasons to be just as successful as the rest of it was.

Meanwhile, Harvey tries to find a way to nullify the deal Mike made with Anita Gibbs, but fails. He then decides to hand over the case files for Liberty Rail, telling Gibbs that she can prosecute a murderer in exchange for Mike not going to prison. Gibbs rejects the proposal, saying Harvey should do the right thing and get the case prosecuted anyway instead of using it as a bargaining chip. Jessica, Louis, and Donna return to the office the next day and find that all the employees are gone. In the last scene, Mike is seen entering the prison gate.

Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) Joyce Whittington (UK) (This is a revised version of Ann Aspinall’s article, published in 2002. It was further updated in 2017.) What is Prader-Willi Syndrome? PWS is a genetic disorder with pronounced behavioural characteristics. Except in rare cases, the genetic fault is new, is not inherited, and arises in the first cell formation at conception. The characteristic symptoms and behaviours of PWS were first identified by Prader, Willi and Labhart in 1956 (Prader et al, 1956). PWS is characterised by hyptonia and feeding problems in infancy, hypogonadism, characteristic facial features, short stature, developmental delay, obesity and an obsession with food and eating. Most people with PWS have mild intellectual disabilities (mean IQ 60-65), with approximately 20% having IQ > 70 and about 22% having IQ < 50. Regardless of measured IQ, most children with PWS have multiple severe intellectual disabilities, and their academic performance is poor for their mental abilities (Whittington and Holland, 2004, 2017).

• Genetic information
• Prevalence: The estimated prevalence of PWS is 1 in 22,000 to 1 in 25,000 births (Whittington et al, 2001; Smith et al, 2003; Vogels et al, 2003, Diene et al.2010))
• Recurrence Risk: In the vast majority of cases, the risk of having another child with PWS is very slight indeed.
• Genetics: Current research has shown that PWS results mainly from one of four genetic abnormalities:

1. A small deletion of Chromosome 15 (most common; 50-70% of cases)
2. Chromosome 15 maternal disomy (associated with older mothers; 25-50% of cases)
3. A translocation of chromosomes involving Chromosome 15
4. An error in the imprinting of Chromosome 15

1. Research shows that there are important differences between (1 & 3) and (2 & 4), for example in cognitive abilities and susceptibility to psychiatric illnesses (Whittington and Holland, 2004, 2017)
2. Clinical diagnosis: Consensus diagnostic criteria for PWS developed in 1993 (Holm et al) have proven to be useful in arousing suspicion but a blood test is necessary for accurate diagnosis.
3. New-born baby

• Usually small, weak and floppy with feeble cry
• Poor or no suck, leading to feeding problems
• Reflexes which are usually present at birth may not appear until later
• Physical features may include: narrow face, almond shaped eyes, small mouth, feet and hands, fair skin and hair (in types 1&3), and small genitalia (more apparent in male babies who often have undescended testes)

Early infancy

• During the first year of life, the degree of floppiness reduces and motor functions begin to improve (although they are likely to remain delayed or weak)
• Most infants will sit, stand and walk late
• Muscle tone is likely to cause later problems with speech
• A wide range of IQ; maternal disomy has higher verbal ability, deletion has higher visuo-spatial ability
• Most display a degree of stubbornness
• Generally placid, cheerful and affectionate babies

Late infancy

• Most are better at concrete, rather than abstract, concepts (e.g. jigsaw puzzles/ wordsearch)
• Preoccupation with food: This can be lessened by good management and strict dietary control but if not monitored weight gain is rapid
• In many ways food becomes central to their lives as they enjoy:
  • Thinking about it
  • Talking about it
  • Looking at it
  • Preparing it
  • And most of all, eating it

Weight gain in infancy

• Babies are slow to put on weight but usually catch up in the first year (Butler et al, 2010)
• Between the ages of 2 and 4 their appetite increases dramatically (believed to be due to hypothalamic abnormality resulting in lack of satiety)
• Many consume everything that is put in front of them (hyperphagia)
• This is the beginning of a life-long problem

This weight gain is not only due to excessive food intake, but also to the need for fewer calories than the norm to maintain an acceptable weight because of a low metabolism. Thus there is a combination of seemingly insatiable appetite and a reduced biological need for food. Primary years Problems which may begin to appear include:

• Perseveration
• Temper tantrums
• Obsessive and compulsive behaviour
• Stubbornness
• Rigidity; intolerance of changes in routine
• Skin picking
• Many have poor auditory processing

Teenage years

• Puberty is usually delayed and incomplete in both sexes
• Infertility (only 3 recorded cases of babies born to PWS mothers)
• Tendency to be shorter in height (compared to other family members)
• The risk of scoliosis is increased
• Social skill deficiencies become even more apparent

Adulthood

• All problems from childhood remain, especially those relating to food
• Sleep problems/sleep apnoea especially in those who are overweight
• Life expectancy has increased in recent years but few individuals live past their forties
• Diabetes is frequent in those who are obese or have a family history
• Psychiatric illness may develop; affective disorder in deletion cases and psychosis in maternal disomy cases.

Interventions

• Professionals should be involved at an early age:
  • Paediatricians, health visitors, portage workers, physiotherapists, psychologists, speech therapists, dentists, opticians and dieticians
• Educational intervention is also considered to address cognitive, physical and other developmental delays; teachers should be aware of cognitive differences between genetic subtypes
• Exercise to improve poor muscle tone
• Children should be taught to recognise a sensible portion size
• Visual aids and cues to learning should be used because of poor auditory processing
• Children cannot estimate the passage of time – they should be given concrete explanations (not ‘in an hour’ but ‘when the clock says’)
• Children should be given limits as to how long they can go on repeating questions
• Strategies for coping with change in routine should be taught
• Assistance in making simple choices
• Growth hormone therapy should be considered at an early age to help ameliorate small stature, facial appearance, abnormal body composition and poor muscle tone and be continued in adulthood
• Repeated revision and consolidation is necessary (because of poor short-term memory)
• Many find it difficult to work in groups but make progress in 1:1 situations
• Medication to control psychiatric illness
