Is Amber Riley the Jellyfish
The finalists for the new series of The Masked Singer were decided on Saturday as five become three and in a huge shock, Jellyfish wasn’t one of them, as Amber Riley was revealed to be the celebrity inside the costume. And the result did not go down well with ITV viewers at home, who hit out at the studio audience for the way they voted.
- From her first performance on the ITV programme last month, Jellyfish has been a clear frontrunner for Masked Singer glory, thanks to covers of songs like Sweet Child O’Mine and Take Me to Church.
- Masked Singer panellist Jonathan Ross declared to have rumbled who Jellyfish is, when she sang Tom Walker’s Leave A Light On.
Having already thought it was Glee star Amber Riley down to her vocals, Jonathan said he was sure the star, famous for playing Mercedes in the hit show, had her own song of the same name. Is jellyfish a girl or boy?
Life cycle – Jellyfish have a complex life cycle which includes both sexual and asexual phases, with the medusa being the sexual stage in most instances. Sperm fertilize eggs, which develop into larval planulae, become polyps, bud into ephyrae and then transform into adult medusae.
- In some species certain stages may be skipped.
- Upon reaching adult size, jellyfish spawn regularly if there is a sufficient supply of food.
- In most species, spawning is controlled by light, with all individuals spawning at about the same time of day; in many instances this is at dawn or dusk.
- Jellyfish are usually either male or female (with occasional hermaphrodites ).
In most cases, adults release sperm and eggs into the surrounding water, where the unprotected eggs are fertilized and develop into larvae. In a few species, the sperm swim into the female’s mouth, fertilizing the eggs within her body, where they remain during early development stages.
In moon jellies, the eggs lodge in pits on the oral arms, which form a temporary brood chamber for the developing planula larvae. The planula is a small larva covered with cilia, When sufficiently developed, it settles onto a firm surface and develops into a polyp, The polyp generally consists of a small stalk topped by a mouth that is ringed by upward-facing tentacles.
The polyps resemble those of closely related anthozoans, such as sea anemones and corals, The jellyfish polyp may be sessile, living on the bottom, boat hulls or other substrates, or it may be free-floating or attached to tiny bits of free-living plankton or rarely, fish or other invertebrates.
Polyps may be solitary or colonial. Most polyps are only millimetres in diameter and feed continuously. The polyp stage may last for years. After an interval and stimulated by seasonal or hormonal changes, the polyp may begin reproducing asexually by budding and, in the Scyphozoa, is called a segmenting polyp, or a scyphistoma.
Budding produces more scyphistomae and also ephyrae. Budding sites vary by species; from the tentacle bulbs, the manubrium (above the mouth), or the gonads of hydromedusae. In a process known as strobilation, the polyp’s tentacles are reabsorbed and the body starts to narrow, forming transverse constrictions, in several places near the upper extremity of the polyp.
- These deepen as the constriction sites migrate down the body, and separate segments known as ephyra detach.
- These are free-swimming precursors of the adult medusa stage, which is the life stage that is typically identified as a jellyfish.
- The ephyrae, usually only a millimeter or two across initially, swim away from the polyp and grow.
Limnomedusae polyps can asexually produce a creeping frustule larval form, which crawls away before developing into another polyp. A few species can produce new medusae by budding directly from the medusan stage. Some hydromedusae reproduce by fission.

Who is Jellyfish? Clues and theories so far – Jellyfish was revealed as Glee and DreamGirls star Amber Riley. Are glowing jellyfish real
It’s true! About 50% of jellyfish can produce light. This amazing ability is called “luminescence” or “bioluminescence.” Jellyfish use bioluminescence mainly to defend against predators. Comb jellies, for instance, produce bright flashes of light to startle their predators and give them time to escape.
Other jellyfish can release a glowing tentacle as a decoy. Some even send thousands of glowing particles into the water to confuse their predator. Jellyfish aren’t the only creatures that are bioluminescent. Squid, fish, bristle worms, krill, bacteria, and plankton are some other common organisms that can glow.
Can you spot a pattern among these organisms? There’s a big one: most bioluminescent creatures live in the ocean. In fact, 76% of all ocean animals are luminescent, and 90% of deep ocean animals are luminescent! The ocean, especially the deepest parts, is vast, dark, and doesn’t provide much refuge for animals to hide.
- For creatures in this daunting habitat, the ability to create light is a useful survival tool.
- Creatures use bioluminescence for many important activities like finding prey, evading predators, attracting mates, and communicating with each other.
- How are these organisms able to produce light? It’s all due to energy released by specific chemical reactions.
Often, the two types of chemicals that react are called luciferin and luciferase. The exact kind of luciferin and luciferase varies among organisms, which allows different organisms to produce different colors of light (blue and green light are the most common). Who won the mask last night?
‘The Masked Singer’ Finale Reveals Identities of Medusa and Macaw: Here’s Who Won Season 9 SPOILER ALERT: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 9, episode 14 season finale of “,” which aired May 17 on Fox. Like a river, kept a steady flow throughout Season 9 of Fox’s “The Masked Singer” — and her perseverance was rewarded with the championship.
- Briggs, as Medusa, won this season’s top prize and was finally unmasked on Wednesday night’s finale, along with runner-up, revealed as the Macaw.
- Briggs, who performed the most of any contestant this season, sealed her victory with performances of “Elastic Heart,” by Sia, and “Welcome to the Black Parade,” by My Chemical Romance.
Although Briggs said singing under the Medusa costume was a challenge, she pointed out that it was nothing compared to what she did last year. “When I was on the show, I was six months postpartum,” she said. “My most recent memory was performing at Coachella while pregnant, which was such an undertaking.
I feel like compared to that, this was okay. That made a huge difference that I had something so intense to compare it to, being six months pregnant and performing in the desert heat. And so, I think that helped my endurance a little bit.” Briggs is known for hits including “Wild Horses” and “River”; she recently released the new single “Baggage” and has the new EP “When Everything Went Dark” coming out next month, followed by a North American tour this fall with MisterWives.
In participating in “The Masked Singer,” Briggs said she was a fan of the show and was curious about “having the opportunity to really make it about my voice it was an adventure performing underneath the costume, for sure. I feel like I could see at the beginning of each song and then by the end of it, who knows what I could see.
But my expectations going in were just to be as authentic as possible. And my hope was that the emotion would come through.” Briggs was almost eliminated earlier in the season but saved by the show’s “Ding Dong Keep It On” bell. Asked to choose her favorite performance of the season, she went with her cover of Hozier’s “Take Me to Church.” “I got to do all the things that I love to do in my own sets,” she said.
“I got to lean into the passion of the song, I got to run around, and I love Hozier.” For Medusa, panelist Nicole Scherzinger got it right with Bishop Briggs. Robin Thicke thought it was Grimes. Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg picked Fergie. Ken Jeong went rogue with Susan Boyle.
As for Macaw, Scherzinger got it right again, this time with David Archuleta. Jeong agreed. Thicke thought it was Jason Mraz. McCarthy Wahlberg went with Neil Patrick Harris. Like last season, “The Masked Singer” has once again adopted a “Champion of Masked Singer” format during the regular season. Each episode, three costumed celebrities performed, but only one would win and move on to compete again the following week.
New this season was “Ding Dong Keep It On.” In the new twist to the competition, panelists had the opportunity to save a singer from looming elimination, but the bell can only be rung three times during the first three rounds. Those three singers then faced off on a special episode in a battle to rejoin the competition — which wound up including Medusa.
Bishop Briggs as Medusa and David Archuleta as Macaw join Pentatonix as California Roll, Olivia Culpo as UFO, Lou Diamond Phillips as Mantis, Keenan Allen as Gargoyle, Melissa Joan Hart as Lamp, Alicia Witt as Dandelion, Dee Snider as the Doll, Christine Quinn as Scorpio, George Wendt as Moose, Holly Robinson Peete as Fairy, Alexa Bliss as Axolotl, Lele Pons as Jackalope, Malin Akerman as Squirrel, Michael Bolton as the Wolf, Grandmaster Flash as Polar Bear, Debbie Gibson as Night Owl, Howie Mandel as Rock Lobster, Sara Evans as Mustang and Dick Van Dyke as Gnome as the celebrities unmasked this season.
“The Masked Singer” entered Season 9 with 21 contestants include “Mustang,” “Axolotl,” “California Roll,” “Dandelion,” “Moose,” “Gargoyle,” “Jackalope,” “Doll,” Polar Bear,” “Night Owl,” “Rock Lobster,” “Gnome,” “Macaw,” “Squirrel,” “Wolf” and more. Tim Chappel is this season’s costume designer.
The Season 9 contestants “boast a combined 28 Emmy nominations, six Grammy wins, 10 gold albums, four Golden Globe nominations, five medals, 26 books, two Tony Award nominations, five Lifetime Achievement Awards, four stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a combined 95,231,000 records sold.” Season nine will introduce all-new themed episodes, including “ABBA Night,” “New York Night,” “DC Superheroes Night,” “Sesame Street Night,” “80s Night,” “Movie Night” and more.
Here were the final two contestants and their performances on night fourteen: Nick Cannon and Medusa, “The Masked Singer” (Michael Becker/Fox) Pete Dadds
- Medusa (BISHOP BRIGGS)
- Songs : “Elastic Heart,” by Sia; “Welcome to the Black Parade,” by My Chemical Romance
- Panel guesses: Elle Goulding, Fergie, Kesha, Grimes, Lorde, Shirley Manson, Bishop Briggs
Package voiceover : “I think people who know me wouldn’t be the least bit surprised I’m wearing a costume with a bunch of snakes all over it and looking creepy. Being a cheeky, reptilian enchantress is basically my aesthetic. The truth is, I feel really grateful I have such a powerful costume to embody.
Medusa has become my second skin. The truth is I feel really grateful that I have such a powerful costume to embody. Medusa has become my second skin. I’m actually afraid I’ll get too used to it and won’t take it off when I go on tour. I fought hard to get here, and it would mean so much to me to join the ranks of past winners like the amazing Queen of Hearts,
This experience is something I’ll carry with me forever I cannot believe I am here in the finale! It has been such a journey. I am grateful but deep down in my stomach there is a fire that makes me really want to win. Because more than any other singer this season, I had to fight the hardest to earn my place here tonight.
I was almost sent home, but all of those obstacles prepared me for this moment right now. Because no matter the circumstances, my priority is the connection with the people in front of me. And the hope that they’ll feel less alone because of my music. I hope when my son watches this he’ll hear Medusa’s message that we are capable of being so many different things at once.
That with great loss, there is always still joy. And more than anything, it’s worth fighting for. I hope I make him proud.” Previous songs: “Someone Like You,” by Adele; “Happier Than Ever,” by Billie Eilish; “Dancing Queen,” by ABBA; “New York, New York,” by Frank Sinatra; “Mercy,” by Shawn Mendes; “Take Me to Church,” by Hozier Previous panel guesses : Elle Goulding, Megan Markle, Jessie J, Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, Lorde, Tove Lo, Apple Martin, Dakota Johnson, Florence Welch, Shirley Manson, Susan Boyle, Kesha, Imogen Heap, Regina Spektor, Bishop Briggs, Amy Lee, Halsey, Ashlee Simpson, Grimes, Natalie Merchant, Paula Cole, Hailee Steinfeld, Dove Cameron, Dido. Nick Cannon and Macaw, “The Masked Singer” (Michael Becker/Fox) Pete Dadds
- Macaw (DAVID ARCHULETA)
- Songs : “Hold Back the River,” by James Bay; “All by Myself,” by Eric Carmen
- Panel guesses : Zayn Malik, Neil Patrick Harris, Doug Robb of Hoobastank, David Archuleta, Darren Criss
Package voiceover : “Becoming the Macaw is exciting because it’s like I’m becoming a new person. Even though people can’t see me in this, in a way it lets me show a lot more of myself. I can show the colors I was too afraid to show, and I’m able to tap deeper emotionally in my performances.
You know, I had a lot of anxiety coming here because I wasn’t sure I could handle an environment of being judged again. Especially with millions watching me on TV. But being the Macaw makes it a lot more fun. And if I win, it means I actually can win something. Maybe the last night for Macaw, but he’ll live in me forever.
When I first started this competition, I didn’t think I’d make it this far. And honestly, I wasn’t sure I’d still be singing at all. Not a lot of people know this about me, but I had a major injury last year that made me completely silent for three months.
Who was mushroom on masked singer
It was then the time to announce the mystery singer behind Mushroom’s mask. As many viewers – and three of the judges – correctly guessed, it was Charlotte Church behind the mask. The Welsh singer rose to fame in childhood as a classical singer before branching into pop music in the early noughties.
Who is broccoli masked singer
The iconic performer behind the big green mask reveals his plans for an album and discusses his surprising TikTok success with EW. THE MASKED SINGER Broccoli’s time of brockin’ out on The Masked Singer stage has come to an end. The cruciferous character was revealed to be legendary singer-songwriter Paul Anka on this week’s special Thanksgiving episode, and as such he’ll be missing out on the Super Six.
- Ahead, the 79-year-old discusses his experience on the show and being a surprise TikTok hit.
- Plus, he spills all the details on his upcoming new album featuring duets with Olivia Newton-John and Andrea Bocelli.
- ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First of all, were you familiar with the show before signing on? PAUL ANKA: Yes, I was very familiar with the show.
I was a big fan of the show, as is my family — my son and the kids he hangs out with. And when I got the call, I was very interested, keeping in mind that I’ve been confined here in my house in my studio. I’m working on a new album, and was confined for some time.
- So I accepted, and wanted to kind of get out of the house.
- I was in, I was down for it, and I had a lot of fun, frankly.
- Did your son figure out it was you or did you tell him in advance? Oh no I told him, because I live with my son.
- I spend a lot of time with him.
- So to break away — we have a very good, honest relationship.
I’d rather tell him the truth and say, “Be quiet.” He didn’t even tell his friends; it was pretty cool. He was kind of excited about it, and then when he started seeing it, he was even more excited about it. In one of the clue packages, there were two dogs.
- Was that a reference to you being on Gilmore Girls and the dog being named after you, or was it your song “Puppy Love,” or both? I think certainly Gilmore Girls and “Puppy Love” because right now, “Puppy Love” and TikTok are huge.
- Put Your Head on My Shoulder” is very big on TikTok, too, which we’re all sort of scratching our head about.
It’s amazing. So I mean, I thought the clues were, for the most part, at least challenging for some people. They really ran with the TikTok thing. People were initially thinking you were a teenager! Obviously the song selection is important, and my whole point was to do things that I don’t normally do and put a lot of energy into it, so that people would say, “No, that person doesn’t have that kind of energy.” So I had all the uptempo songs, and really put as much movement as I could in my costume to partially throw them off.
My concern was Robin, because I knew his dad, may he rest. I know Robin, I haven’t seen him recently, but my tonality he would pick up on. So with that, and going the energy route and moving and the selection, I wanted to throw them off as best I could. Speaking of song selection, as someone who’s been performing for so long, how did you narrow down what you’d sing? Well, I wanted songs I was familiar with because as much as I could envision what it was going to be like in the costume, the reality only hit me when I was in it.
I wasn’t really ready to do some unknown sound here. I looked at “Watermelon Sugar,” a couple of very contemporary songs and I said to myself, well, I’m in the studio now, I’m trying to work on a lot of new songs here. So my brain was kind of maxed, so I really chose songs that I felt like I could pull off or that would work for me.
What can you tell us about the album you’re working on? I’ve got to deliver it in about five weeks, and then it’s coming out next year. And I think one of the good sides — if there is one — with COVID is that you’re not going anywhere and I just started writing. I’ve written a lot of songs and I started the process months and months and months ago, and I don’t know, it’s just been rolling out of me.
And we’ve got a lot of diverse material. One of the highlights from this is I have the original master, I’ve known Andrea Bocelli and I thought, wow, wouldn’t it be great if I can get Bocelli on here with Sinatra and myself and do the three of us in “My Way,” which I originally wrote for Sinatra.
- It became very exciting, but it was technically very challenging and we pulled it off, and same with Olivia Newton-John.
- I mean, she’s on her farm up north, and I wanted to do “Put Your Head On My Shoulder” with someone.
- It’s very big on TikTok now with Doja Cat, who got a hit record with it.
- I wanted to make a normal version, if you will.
I have known Olivia, and I just felt it would be the perfect song for her, with her talent, and she’s pretty much staying home, obviously, now with what she’s dealing with. So we put her in a studio up in the Santa Barbara area and we just banged it out.
- And she did a great job.
- She did an amazing job.
- What surprised you most about being on The Masked Singer ? Well, first of all, I loved working with the staff and everyone.
- And I think that the added unfortunate pressure that we all felt I have family in the business and they’ve been shut down, they can’t get away.
Jason Bateman, you know, he couldn’t get to Atlanta — they’re doing Ozark — but he was confined. We talk all the time, my daughter and him, and they’re all very concerned. But when I found I could get back to work, and realize that when I did get back to work, how efficient it was in producing the show, I was really taken with how easy it was under an abnormal situation and how smoothly it ran.
- That’s what everyone has been telling me.
- But you know, I watch the show.
- I think some of them want out of there after the first time.
- I think Mickey Rourke wanted out,
- You know, that wasn’t my take.
- I mean, I was going to have fun, and being a fan of the show, I went with it.
- Did I want to last three weeks? No, I wanted to get back to my album, but I think the ride that I had was great.
You know, I had the experience. But other than that, I didn’t have any expectations. I did the best I could working hard at it, and that was it. It was pretty cool. This interview has been edited for length and clarity. Related content:
