Matthew Wolfenden who plays David Metcalfe has reportedly “quit” the ITV soap after 17 years, since joining the show in 2006. Who’s returning to Emmerdale in 2023? – Vanessa Woodfield has been out of the village since last year Vanessa Woodfield has been out of the village since last year, but it’s believed actress Michelle Hardwick, who plays her, is due to return before the end of the year.

Michelle, who has been on maternity leave, teased a comeback was due in 2023 earlier this year. Gabby Thomas and her son Thomas are due to return soon and Cathy Hope will too, with these exits only temporary. Another actress set to return at some point, while having made cameos recently, is Laura Norton,

Laura headed off on maternity leave late last year, and her character Kerry fled after the death of her partner Al Chapman. Kerry recently returned to the soap via a video call for Dan’s final episode, while she also appeared in April in a video call with her daughter Chloe.

How did Dave Glover leave Emmerdale

Storylines – Dave arrives in the village with his parents and younger siblings; Roy ( Nicky Evans ) and Linda ( Tonicha Jeronimo ). He is given a job as a farmhand at Home Farm by Frank. Dave begins an affair with Frank’s wife Kim, unaware that Frank knows.

They are caught out when Frank gives Dave a cottage on the estate and has microphones and cameras planted inside. Frank walks in on them and sacks Dave. Kim then moves Dave into Home Farm, but he becomes fed up of the bickering between her and Frank. Dave and Kim move out and his father, Ned (Johnny Leeze), disowns him.

Kim realises she is pregnant and Frank starts divorce proceedings. Frank then offers Kim £1 million to leave Dave and move back into Home Farm. Kim returns to Frank, telling Dave that he is not the father of her child. Kim gives birth to a boy, who she names James.

  • Dave remains in love with Kim and believes he is James’ father, but when Frank does not let him near Kim, Dave turns to his ex-lover, Kathy.
  • They begin a relationship and Kathy proposes to Dave, who accepts.
  • They marry at a registry office in secret.
  • Im decides to leave the village with James and she persuades Dave to go with her.

Dave decides to leave Linda’s wedding reception to meet Kim at Home Farm. Frank returns and he confronts Dave and Kim. They suddenly notice a fire has broken out in the nursery and Dave runs in to save James, who he manages to pass out through a window.

Ratings – As of 2022, Emmerdale generally attracts an average of 5 million viewers. During the 1990s, the series had an average of 10–11 million viewers per episode. On 30 December 1993, Emmerdale had its largest-ever audience of 18 million when a plane crashed into the village,

On 27 May 1997, 13 million viewers saw Frank Tate ( Norman Bowler ) die of a heart attack after the return of wife Kim ( Claire King ). On 20 October 1998, 12.5 million viewers saw the Woolpack explode after a fire. Kim Tate’s departure from the show on 19 January 1999 was watched by nearly 15 million viewers.

The village storm on 1 January 2004 attracted 11.19 million viewers.18 May 2004 episode in which Jack was shot by his adopted son, Andy, attracted 8.27 million viewers. On 17 March 2005, 9.39 million watched Shelly Williams fall from the Isle of Arran ferry.
