  1. Plagued by infidelity, recriminations and pointed press leaks, the “War of the Waleses” captivated the world.
  2. But throughout Princess Diana and the then Prince of Wales’s 20-year odyssey, there were moments of real affection, no matter how fleeting.

Is Harry still in line for the throne?

Line of succession to the British throne – Here is the line of succession to the British throne. According to the outlet, Charles and his wife Queen Camilla were referred to by their former titles of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, while Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton were designated the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

  1. William and Middleton still retain those titles, which were given to them by Queen Elizabeth on their wedding day in 2011, but they were also named the Prince and Princess of Wales by Charles following his ascension to the throne.
  2. MEGHAN MARKLE, PRINCE HARRY BUY FILM RIGHTS TO ROMANCE NOVEL IN NEXT HOLLYWOOD MOVE The outlet also noted instances in which Elizabeth was still referred to as the reigning monarch instead of Charles, as well as other errors.

As of Tuesday, all the outdated references on the website that were pointed out by the outlet had been corrected. “The Royal Family website contains over five thousand pages of information about the life and work of the Royal Family. Following the death of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, content has been revisited and updated periodically. Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, leaves after appearing during the Mirror Group Phone hacking trial at the Rolls Building at High Court on June 7, 2023 in London, England. (Photo by Carl Court/Getty Images) According to the publication, Harry’s profile had also been moved lower on the website’s landing page.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ profiles can now be found beneath those of the working royal family members. The profile page for Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, is listed last on the landing page. Andrew lost the use of his “HRH” title, his military roles and his royal patronages in January 2022 following allegations of sexual abuse, which he strongly denied.

In February 2022, Andrew settled a lawsuit with his accuser Virginia Giuffre, an American woman who alleged that the royal raped her when she was a teenager at the home of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Both instances in which “His Royal Highness” was used to refer to Harry on his profile page concerned his work to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and end the stigma around the disease.

  1. In January 2020, following the couple’s announcement that they were stepping back as senior members of the British royal family, Buckingham Palace announced in a statement they would no longer use the “HRH” title.
  2. Harry remains fifth in line to the throne behind William and his children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.

The royal family’s website was updated in March to reflect changes to the titles of Harry and Markle’s children. The couple’s son Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 2, were named the Prince and Princess of Sussex on the website’s line of succession page after they were previously designated “Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor” and “Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.” The two are sixth and seventh in line to the throne behind their father.

  • The website was updated one day after Harry and Markle used the title of Princess for the first time when announcing Lilibet’s christening.
  • The changes were in keeping with a 1917 decree issued by King George V that the children and grandchildren of a reigning sovereign have the automatic right to the titles prince or princess and HRH.

After Charles ascended to the throne in September, his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet became eligible to receive royal titles. As monarch, Charles could have revoked their titles but opted not to when Harry and Markle decided to use them. “The children’s titles have been a birthright since their grandfather became monarch,” Harry and Markle’s spokesperson told People magazine at the time.

Can Prince Harry be king?

Could Prince ever become King? – It’s a good question! And the answer, possibly surprisingly, is still yes—despite the Duke of Sussex having made it very clear that he’s keen to distance himself from royal protocols and press intrusion (which would likely only ramp up further if he were to become King).

At present, and this is a birthright “privilege” that cannot be revoked without an Act of Parliament being in place. However, there are a whole myriad of things that would need to happen in order for it to actually reach the stage that Prince Harry was first in line and set to become King, as of course he has an elder brother,, who is the current heir to the throne—and who is expected to step up as monarch when King Charles III eventually passes.

In the event of Prince William’s death occurring before King Charles’s, Prince Harry would still not be the next choice for King, instead that honor would move on to Prince William’s eldest son,, Likewise, if Prince George were unable to fulfill the duty of becoming monarch, would take the throne—and failing that, Prince Louis also stands ahead of his uncle Harry.

Currently, below Prince Harry in the order of succession is his and Meghan Markle’s son, (yep, that his grandfather is the current King), followed by his daughter,, So, the bottom line? Yes, Prince Harry could one day be King.but there’d need to be a lot of unfortunate and premature deaths in order for that to happen.

And even if it did happen, there’s no certainty that the present Duke of Sussex would actually want to take on the role (he could very well choose to abdicate).

Is Harry still a Duke?

Why did Harry and Meghan leave the Royal Family? – Harry and Meghan met in 2016 and married in 2018. They stepped down as senior royals in January 2020. Angry about media intrusion, the couple were frustrated that Buckingham Palace stopped them developing their “SussexRoyal” brand.

Would Harry’s child be a prince

Answered By: Harry Hill Date: created: Dec 19 2023

Harry and Meghan’s children have been named prince and princess on the Royal Family’s website as the couple said it was their “birthright”. It comes after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex publicly used the titles prince and princess for Archie and Lilibet for the first time.

They used the title princess for their daughter, known as Lili for short, when she was christened in Los Angeles on Friday, Harry and Meghan’s children became a prince and princess when the King acceded to the throne, but they had remained “master” and “miss” on the Buckingham Palace website for the last six months.

Now the succession list on the website has been updated to reflect the change – with Archie and Lilibet listed as Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex. Previously they featured on the line of succession page as Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor. Image: Lilibet at an ‘intimate and casual backyard picnic’ for her birthday. Pic: Misan Harriman When Archie was born, he was the great-grandchild of a sovereign rather than a grandchild, so was not given the title. However, when the Queen died and her son King Charles acceded to the throne, it meant Archie and Lilibet were entitled to be a prince and princess.

They aren’t entitled to use the HRH style because Harry’s use of the title is currently in abeyance, after he and Meghan left their roles as working royals. Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player February: King Charles heckled by anti-monarchists It is understood Archie and Lilibet’s titles will be used in formal settings but not in everyday conversational use.

As such, the announcement of Lilibet’s baptism in California was the first opportunity to use her title since the death of the Queen. Harry and Meghan were keen not to deny their children their birthright, but wanted to allow them the chance to decide for themselves when they are older whether to drop or keep using the royal titles.

Did Prince Harry inherit anything from?

Royal Inheritance – After stepping down as working royals, Harry and Markle largely relied on Harry’s inheritance from his late mother, Princess Diana, estimated at $10 million. Representatives told Forbes in 2021 that Harry was not a beneficiary of any of the $100 million left to the royal family by his great-grandmother, the Queen Mother.

It’s unclear if Harry was left any money from his grandmother the late Queen Elizabeth II, whose will is expected to stay sealed for at least 90 years. How old would Princess Diana be if she had not died

Answered By: Peter Brown Date: created: Jul 30 2023

If she were still alive today, Princess Diana would be 61 years old, However, given that she died 25 years ago, it seems impossible to imagine her at that age. The woman who came to be known as the People’s Princess is forever remembered as a youthful figure, only 36 at the end of her life and far younger than that when she first entered the spotlight as partner to then-Prince Charles, now King Charles III with the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

  • But just how young was Diana when she met the future monarch — and how much of an age difference was there between them? Diana Spencer was just 16 years old when she met Charles at her family home, Althorp House, in November of 1977.
  • The prince, who as the first in the line to the British throne, was a popular and eligible bachelor, but that first meeting wasn’t a romantic one.

At the time, Charles was linked to Diana’s older sister, Lady Sarah Spencer. Born in 1948, Charles was nearly 13 years older than Diana. But even still, when he later recalled that day, he admitted Diana made a big impression on him. “I remember thinking what a very jolly and amusing and attractive 16-year-old she was,” he said in an interview the couple gave while announcing their engagement in February of 1981.

I mean great fun, bouncy and full of life and everything.” When Diana was asked her first impression of him during the same interview, she bashfully replied, “Pretty amazing.” She was impressed again when, at age 17, she accepted an invitation to his 30th birthday party at Buckingham Palace. It was an event she called “fascinating” when she looked back on it in conversations with author Andrew Morton for his book “Diana: Her True Story — In Her Own Words.” When the book was published in 1992, Morton denied that Diana had been a source; after her death in 1997, he confirmed that she had been the primary source.

Diana was 19 when her relationship with Charles became a romance, and she was still a teen when she accepted his proposal of marriage, By the time they married, in an epic ceremony held at London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral on July 29, 1981, Diana, the newly minted Princess of Wales was 20, and her husband was 32.

Set in the ’90s, the fifth season of “The Crown ” will take place around the time of the couple’s separation in 1992. When the couple divorced in 1995, Diana was 35 and Charles was 47. During the early hours of 31 August 1997, Diana, Princess of Wales, died from injuries sustained earlier that night in a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris, France. Diana’s partner, Dodi Fayed, and the driver of the Mercedes-Benz W140, Henri Paul, were found dead inside the car.

  • Dodi’s bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, was seriously injured, but was the only survivor of the crash.
  • Some media claimed that the erratic behaviour of the paparazzi chasing the car, as reported by the BBC, caused the crash.
  • In 1999, a French investigation found that Paul lost control of the vehicle at high speed while intoxicated by alcohol and under the effects of prescription drugs, and concluded that he was solely responsible for the crash.

He was the deputy head of security at the Hôtel Ritz Paris and had earlier goaded paparazzi waiting for Diana and Fayed outside the hotel. Anti-depressants and traces of an anti-psychotic in his blood might have worsened Paul’s inebriation. In 2008, a jury at the British inquest, Operation Paget, returned a verdict of unlawful killing through grossly negligent driving by Paul and the following paparazzi vehicles.

Some media reports claimed that Rees-Jones survived because he was wearing a seat belt, but other investigations revealed that none of the occupants of the car were wearing them. Diana was 36 years old when she died. Her death sparked an outpouring of public grief in the United Kingdom and worldwide, and her televised funeral was watched by an estimated 2.5 billion people.

The royal family were criticised in the press for their reaction to Diana’s death. Public interest in Diana has remained high and she continues to retain regular press coverage in the decades since her death.

  3. For another, she wasn’t perceived as “aristocratic” enough to be a princess, according to The Duchess: Camilla Parker Bowles and the Love Affair That Rocked the Crown by Penny Junor.

“Lovely for you two to have a fling, but this absolutely cannot end in marriage,” Prince Charles’s great uncle Lord Mountbatten advised him, according to the documentary The Real Camilla: HRH the Duchess of Cornwall, Soon after, Charles was called away on naval business overseas, and used the time to put distance between himself and Camilla.

  • He is descended from not one, but two illegitimate children of King Charles II of England: Henry Fitzroy and Charles Lennox, via two of his great-great-grandmothers, Adelaide Seymour and Rosalind Bingham,” adds Harrison.

“Then also on his mother’s side there are American links, so in a way, Harry is getting back to his roots by settling in California. Diana’s maternal great-grandmother, Frances Ellen Work, was an American heiress who divorced her husband in 1891 on the grounds of desertion.

It was a high-profile case that appeared in all the newspapers at the time.” Harry clearly identifies very strongly as a Spencer, Harris points out, “and we can draw many parallels between the unconventional path that he’s taken and that of his ancestors, as well as the clever way many of them used the media to their own advantage”.

For example, one of the first Spencers to cause a royal ruckus was Robert Spencer, the 2nd Earl of Sunderland. In the 1670s, he orchestrated King Charles II’s secret pact with France and also became one of James II’s closest advisers, known for his diplomacy, but also his duplicity.

  • Nearly 300 years on, my father would talk about him with an ashamed, resigned chuckle,” Charles, the present Earl Spencer, writes in The Spencers: A Personal History of an English Family.
  • Robert was known to be “cunning, supple shameless” with “a restless and mischievous temper, and an abject spirit”; Harry may be starting a new life in California, but maybe the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

With her rose-gold hair and blue eyes, Lilibet Diana is “very Spencer-like”, according to Harry – just like him and his mum. But that’s not all the youngest member of the Montecito Mountbatten-Windsors stands to inherit from that side of the family. Just as, one day, her young cousins may show traits of the Middleton clan, so Lilibet will undoubtedly find genetics playing a part in her life, just as they have in Harry’s.

  1. Harry is extremely proud of his Spencer heritage, as was his mother, who spoke to him about it at great length when he was growing up,” says Ingrid Seward, royal commentator and editor of Majesty magazine.
  2. The Spencer family are known for being outspoken, all action, leading with the heart, not the head.

Not only does Harry look very Spencer with his red hair, but he calls his aunts Sarah and Jane his ‘red aunts’.” With the bushy ginger beard he is currently rocking, Harry certainly resembles his ancestor John Spencer, the 19th-century politician who was known as the “Red Earl”.

But the Spencer trait of auburn locks – and shaping royal history – can actually be traced a few generations back, to Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough. Played by Rachel Weisz in the Oscar-winning film The Favourite, Sarah started as a maid in the court of James II and became the most powerful woman in England through her manipulative control of Queen Anne.

In 1700, Sarah arranged the marriage of her distant relation Charles Spencer, the future 3rd Earl of Sunderland, to her favourite daughter, Anne. Centuries before the modern Diana and Prince Charles wed, Sarah attempted to marry her favourite granddaughter – the original Lady Diana – to the broke Frederick, Prince of Wales, with a promise of a £100,000 dowry.

The plan fell through after King George II was warned by his prime minister to find a wife “less politically threatening” for his son. And Harry’s current family feuds have antecedents. Sarah ended up falling out with her granddaughter Anne and disinheriting her grandson Charles, 5th Earl of Sunderland.

Alexander Pope said of her: “Full sixty years the World has been her Trade,/ The wisest Fool much Time has ever made./ From loveless youth to unrespected age,/ No Passion gratify’d except her Rage.” Harry would probably say she just needed a good therapist.

  • Then there’s Diana’s great-great-great-great-aunt Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire.
  • The daughter of John, 1st Earl Spencer and his wife, Margaret, the teenage Georgiana became a sensation in 18th-century London.
  • But she found that her cold, older husband was not as interested in her as everyone else (remind you of anyone?) Like Harry in his youth, Georgiana had a reputation for hard partying – she was a gambling addict with a laudanum dependency who was always having to borrow money.

Scandal turned to calamity when Georgiana became pregnant by the future prime minister Charles Grey and she was banished to France. But Georgiana set the fashions of the day – popularising French hair powder and tall hairstyles among other trends – and also campaigned tirelessly for the Whig party, while the newspapers documented her every move.

  1. You live so constantly in public you cannot live for your own soul,” her mother, Lady Spencer, wrote to her.
  2. The Spencer tendency to choose passion over propriety is strong in Diana’s immediate family, too.
  3. Her mother, the heiress Frances Roche, was quickly disillusioned with country life as a young aristocratic mother.

“I’m so bloody bored with opening village fetes,” she told a friend. It was no wonder that the fiery Frances wanted more from life. “She was very attractive and blonde and sexy with such joie de vivre and fun about her,” a friend told Brown for The Diana Chronicles.

By the 1960s, Frances escaped to London and started an affair with married bon vivant and wallpaper heir Peter Shand Kydd. She separated from Diana’s father and fought for custody of the children but lost, partially due to her own mother, Baroness Fermoy, who testified against her. Social outcasts, the Shand Kydds eventually moved to the coast of Scotland.

Diana’s older sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale also inherited this rebellious Spencer spirit. According to Brown’s book, she was kicked out of boarding school and once rode her horse into her grandmother’s living room. Sarah had her own romance with Prince Charles, and introduced her younger sister to him.

  1. Then there’s Diana’s younger brother Charles, who has seven children from three marriages and is known for speaking his mind.
  2. At his speech at Diana’s funeral, he famously pledged that “we, your blood family, will do all we can to continue the imaginative and loving way in which you were steering these two exceptional young men, so that their souls are not simply immersed by duty and tradition, but can sing openly, as you planned”.

His daughters are certainly singing their own tune. The model Kitty Spencer, 31, recently wed multimillionaire businessman Michael Lewis, 63 (five years older than her father). “Sometimes I feel like my family should be on The Jerry Springer Show,” she once said.

  • From the outside, the structure looks so dysfunctional.
  • However, every single member of my family is part of my happiness.” So, what clues can we glean about Harry’s future from how his famous forebears ended up? Although – like Harry – many of them were banished or exiled or moved abroad, nearly all of them ended up coming back to the royal court.

Whether it’s dynasty or destiny, there’s no doubt we can expect many more surprises from this Spencer.

What is the relation between Prince Charles and Prince Harry?

King Charles ‘ fractured relationship with his son Prince Harry is certainly on his mind one year after Queen Elizabeth ‘s death. As the late monarch often brought her family together, Prince Harry’s rift with the royals seems wider than ever. Fissures within the family came to the fore when King Charles’ younger son and his wife, Meghan Markle, left the U.K.

for the U.S. in 2020, and relations have remained strained since. “I’m sure misses him. Harry is entertaining, warm and very loving as well. And they had a great relationship,” a source close to the royal household tells PEOPLE in this week’s exclusive cover story. King Charles “leans toward the compassionate rather than the disciplinarian style of family leadership,” adds royal biographer and Queen of Our Times author Robert Hardman, implying hope for the future.

Managed to navigate these choppy waters, and that’s why she was always admired and loved — because she got the family through,” says the source close to the royal household. ” will have to show that he can do that.” Queen Elizabeth was “especially important,” a friend tells PEOPLE, and the anniversary of her death will surely be top of mind on Friday.

The Queen died at Balmoral Castle at age 96 on Sept.8, 2022, and King Charles’ accession sparked a year of change for the royal family. Although Prince Harry, 38, made plans to stop in London to attend the WellChild charity awards on Sept.7 before heading to the Invictus Games in Germany, which begin Saturday, sources say that there is no chance of a reunion with his brother or father anytime soon.

Prince William feels betrayed by Harry’s claims in his memoir, Spare, and the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, but he is dealing with his feelings privately, insiders say. A source who knows both brothers says the public drama “has quieted down a bit.” In matters both personal and professional, “there is an enormous loss,” says a source close to the royal household, “as played a very important part in all of their lives.

But I’m impressed at how smoothly things are moving forward given all the little hiccups that there are in the background.” One Year Later: Life Without the Queen. The biggest “hiccup” of all, of course, has been the ongoing estrangement of Harry and Meghan from the rest of the royal family.

  • Queen Elizabeth — despite being someone with whom Harry had “his own rapport,” as Hardman puts it — was tough with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when she felt she had to be, ruling they couldn’t be half in, half out of the royal family as they’d hoped.
  • When it comes to the royal way of doing things, “There’s no and hawing,” Hardman tells PEOPLE.

  • Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty On the surface, King Charles has followed the same signposts that have dotted the royal road for decades.
  • Along with continuing the annual Balmoral tradition, the King has hosted Christmas at Sandringham just as his mother did and carried on with royal events like Trooping the Colour and the ancient Order of the Garter ceremony.

He and Queen Camilla head to France on Sept.20 for a state visit — and although it might go undetected beneath the pomp and pageantry, insiders say there is a different mood on royal outings. Queen Elizabeth, reflecting her generation, greeted the public at a distance and through a gloved hand, while King Charles takes a less formal approach.
