Who is the world’s best striker right now

Answered By: Clifford Gonzalez Date: created: Mar 23 2023

Highlights –

Scoring goals is the hardest thing in football and essential for winning games in the Premier League, which features the best defenders in the world. Erling Haaland is arguably the best striker in the world and has already broken numerous records in his career. Gabriel Jesus, despite having an excellent impact since arriving at Arsenal last summer, is only the fourth-best striker in the league right now.

Scoring goals is the hardest thing in football – at the end of the day, they win games. In the Premier League, finding the back of the net is particularly difficult given strikers are often facing the best defenders in the world. Down the years, though, there have been some brilliant centre-forwards in the English top flight.

  1. Alan Shearer, Luis Suarez and Didier Drogba are just some of the names that come to mind when thinking about the greatest marksmen in the game.
  2. Today, there are some absolutely incredible sharpshooters in the division, including arguably the best in the world in the form of Erling Haaland.
  3. But there have been two notable departures in the summer, with Harry Kane and Aleksandar Mitrović, two of last season’s best, swapping England for Germany and Saudi Arabia respectively.

So, with their moves away, who are the 10 finest forwards in the Premier League? We have put together our list for right now, but with some new names joining English clubs in the summer, we could see a few fresh faces enter the fray as the 2023/24 campaign unfolds.

Is Haaland the best striker?

Goal scoring record by getting 36 goals in the prep beating out the likes of Andy Cole Alan cheer and Muhammad Salah. he’s also broken some of Pep guardiola’s records too like being the fastest player to reach 25 goals under Guardiola. I’d be the top goal scorer for Guardiola. it was seasoned where he scored 22 goals.

Is Messi better than Haaland

Answered By: Daniel Rivera Date: created: Jun 20 2023

Haaland vs Messi – Haaland’s mentor at City, manager Pep Guardiola, obviously knows how talented and determined Haaland is, but he admits that a comparison to the Argentinian player, widely regarded as the greatest of all time, is pointless. “In terms of goals and mentality, yeah.

  • But Messi has produced these numbers every season during the last 10-15 years,” said Guardiola.
  • But Erling, since the start at Salzburg, before, and now here, has the same level.” Behind Messi and Shakhtar’s Luis Adriano, Haaland is just the third player to score five goals in single Champions League game, and he was the youngest (22) and fastest to do so (25 games).

For his club and his country, Haaland is far ahead of where Messi was at 22 years old. Haaland has 201 goals in 244 games while Messi had 140 goals in 262 games at 22 years old, However, Haaland is a designated striker so his and Messi’s position at the time did differ and as Guardiola pointed out, Messi is the complete package – not just in scoring.

  • Almost every game, scores goals.
  • And one or two goals in every game, he’s had the chance to do it,” said Guardiola.
  • But Messi is the most complete player I’ve ever seen, in vision, in passes, in dribbling, in competitiveness, and in many things that make it difficult anyone.” It’s true that it’s not all about the numbers.

A player’s success can be measured in many different ways. That said, though, Messi’s best year was in 2012, when he had 91 goals in a year. If Haaland can reach that peak, then we’ll come back to this conversation. He could very well do so if he continues to score at the rate he is now.

Who is better than Erling Haaland

Answered By: Roger Sanchez Date: created: Sep 23 2023

Mbappe on top for now – It’s difficult, for now at least, to argue with the assertion than Kylian Mbappe is the natural successor to the Greatest Of All Time throne abstained by the ageing Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. However, that could easily change with time.

  • Erling Haaland is undoubtedly the superior goalscorer, but Mbappe seems a more complete player at the moment.
  • Transfermarkt calculates the value of the Frenchman to be a colossal £158m, making him the most valuable player on the planet at the moment.
  • Haaland finds himself narrowly behind on the list at £150m and the pair make up the two most expensive assets in world football at the moment.

Haaland has the advantage of arguably operating within a better-run club, with Manchester City still on course to compete for the Champions League and the Premier League – a more prestigious domestic league than Ligue 1. Only time will tell which talent will amass more Ballon D’Or gongs, but needless to say, the duo will undoubtedly share the podium on several occasions.

What is No 10 in football?

What is a number 10? A number 10 is an attacker who operates in the spaces between central midfield and the front line. They often receive between the opposition’s midfield and defence – a space commonly referred to as ‘between the lines’. Where does the name ‘number 10′ originate? The classic number 10 role is so named because it was traditionally the number worn by the player in that position.

It was called the ‘ enganche ‘ in Argentina, which translates as ‘hook’, to describe its importance in connecting midfield and attack. As sides began to move away from the 4-3-3 of the 1970s to the 4-3-1-2 or 4-4-2 diamond of the 1980s, the ‘hook’ became even more important. In the modern era, the number 10 usually plays underneath a single centre-forward, with a double pivot in behind in a 4-2-3-1 structure.

A single number 10 is also used in a 3-4-1-2 shape. However, many teams now use defensive midfielders in the spaces where a classic number 10 would operate. As a result, the role of the modern number 10 now requires more varied movements and a broader skillset. As the game has evolved, though, number 10s are required to do much more. Their responsibilities involve far more than just creating for others with on-the-ball actions. Movements into the penalty area to support the centre forward(s) are important, as well as moving out wide and into the inside channels to support a winger or full-back,

They should help create wide overloads, to get teammates into spaces to cross. The modern number 10 might also drop deeper centrally to receive, especially when there is little space between the lines. Number 10s are also expected to provide a goal threat by running beyond the striker(s), attacking crosses and supporting the second phase of play after a ball into a centre-forward.

What are the out-of-possession responsibilities of a number 10? The classic number 10 had few defensive responsibilities – often, they had something of a free role. When their team was defending, they would look for space to receive a pass following a turnover and launch a counter-attack.

  1. While the rest of the midfield battled for possession and defended central areas, the number 10 was thinking about how to take advantage when possession was regained.
  2. A modern number 10 has far more defensive responsibility, though.
  3. They will often push forward to press the opposition centre-backs or move to defend in wide areas.

Often, they will directly engage and duel with opposing full-backs high up the pitch. A number 10 also plays a key screening role if the coach wants them to block access into the opposition’s pivot. From this position, they will screen central passes, block forward runs and make interceptions. Who are the best modern number 10s? Mesut Özil at Real Madrid and Arsenal Özil was a creative number 10 at both Real and Arsenal, breaking lines through his clever passing, disguised touches and superb vision. He created space through his movement and passing, and constantly got on the ball in pockets of space between the lines.

From there, he could turn to feed the ball through gaps in the opposition’s defence (above, top). Another strength was his understanding of when to stand still and hold his position while others moved around him. Thomas Müller at Bayern Munich Müller is a versatile number 10 with a very different skillset to Özil.

He is combative without the ball, effective and smart in instigating a press, and does a good job of screening and providing cover. With the ball, his movements are varied and unpredictable. He connects passes into the centre-forward well, but his main strength is getting into goalscoring positions. Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United Fernandes finds ways to penetrate forward with his passing from the number 10 position. He can connect into runners beyond the opposition’s defence, provide crosses from wider positions, deliver dangerous balls from set-pieces, and shoot from range.

  • He can also combine with short passes through both inside channels and wide areas to great effect.
  • His ability to find runners in behind is probably the strongest part of his game, however.
  • He is able to play both long-range, diagonal passes to wingers, or deft passes through or over a deep block (above).

He has a hugely valuable ability to both spot and then find runs from midfielders into threatening positions. Paulo Dybala at Juventus Dybala is a skilled dribbler, impressive in tight spaces (below), and agile enough to avoid pressure when on the ball. Which other players are examples of a Number 10? Diego Maradona at Napoli (below). Dennis Bergkamp at Arsenal. Juan Román Riquelme at Boca Juniors. Kaká at AC Milan. David Silva at Manchester City. What are the benefits of playing with a number 10? Playing with a number 10 makes it more likely that a team will access the space between the lines.

When this happens, a team is also more likely to create chances. This is particularly so against teams that set up with two flat defensive lines, such as in the 4-4-2. Otherwise, the number 10 can create gaps in an opposing back line by moving away from goal to drag defenders out of shape. Pausing on the ball can also help dismantle a defensive line if an opponent moves towards the ball.

You might be interested:  Who Is Molly Mae?

This can enable teammates to exploit the resulting space. A number 10 will take attention away from the main goal threat – the centre-forward or centre-forwards – through movements, passes and their general threat in support of other attackers. This can lead to more space in more advanced positions, and more – and better – chances to score. Diego Maradona operated as a classic number 10 during his time with Napoli in Serie A Allsport UK/Allsport What are the disadvantages to playing with a number 10? In the modern game, players who don’t contribute defensively severely affect the rest of the team.

As a result, modern-day number 10s need to do more than provide on-the-ball quality. They must also be willing to work hard and do the job asked of them out of possession. In attack, there can be too great a reliance on a number 10 to provide creative output for their team. So, whenever opponents block access to the number 10, man-mark them, or stop them from receiving in key areas, the team’s attacking output can be compromised.

With many modern teams using either a single or double pivot close to the defence, access to the central spaces between the lines – where a number 10 should be most effective – can be difficult to find. The increase in formations that limit central space has led to a decline in use of a traditional number 10.

  1. There are now more rotations, movements and swapping of roles, so the number 10 may find themselves moving away from their preferred position.
  2. This may leave some coaches questioning whether they need a specialist number 10 at all.

What is a false 9 in football?

What is a False 9 in Soccer? – The term ‘False 9’ is something you hear more and more of in the modern game. As football tactics continue to develop and coaches try to come up with alternative ways of breaking down the defensive line of their opposition, all sorts of new inventions can see the light of today.

  • Effectively, a false 9 is a centre-forward who is stationed high up the pitch but has the freedom to roam around and drop back into deeper positions to receive the ball and link up play.
  • These players tend to operate primarily in central areas, somewhere between centre-forward and central attacking midfield.

The main goal of the false 9 soccer position is to cause confusion amongst the opponent’s defensive line by picking up the ball in space away from the opposition center-backs. Here, attacking players are able to draw defenders out of position, disrupt the defense, and make marking more difficult for the opposition.

  • False 9s need to be technically gifted, with intelligent movement, great ball control, a varied passing range, and crucially, the ability to finish chances.
  • Despite the fact they regularly drop back into advanced midfield positions in order to create opportunities, they will also be expected to be clinical in front of goal when the chances come, like any good center forward would be.

As you can see, it’s a demanding role.
