  Tom Grennan Tom Grennan (born in Bedford) is a British singer-songwriter currently based in London. Grennan was born in Bedford. His father is a builder, and his mother was a teacher. He is of Irish/English origin and a big fan of football and particularly Manchester United.

  He played football at a young age for the Bedford Park Tigers. He attended St Thomas More Catholic School. His younger brother is an aspiring boxer. At 18, he was mugged by a group of strangers on the street and was left with four metal plates and screws in his jaw that “still hurt when winter comes”. He trained to become a professional footballer.

  He played for Luton Town for a while, tried for Northampton Town and Aston Villa. But he was later released. He worked briefly at Costa Coffee. He told Music Week: “I was close to playing over in the States but something was telling me not to and obviously it was the music”.

  His musical beginnings are obscure, but he says he was at a house party where he sang “Seaside” from The Kooks. He didn’t remember it, but his friends were impressed and pushed him into performing more. He studied acting at university.   Tom Grennan will be the first-ever Soccer Aid player to take part in the match and perform at half-time at the 2023 charity event. The singer is a massive Manchester United fan and has said the performance at Old Trafford stadium will be “extra special”.Grennan will also be playing on the Soccer Aid England team alongside the likes of Paddy McGuiness, Tom Hiddleston and Liam Payne.Speaking about the opportunity, Tom said: “As a big supporter of Soccer Aid for Unicef and Manchester United fan, this will be a dream come true moment for me – and I hope an equally special moment for everyone in the stadium and those watching at home.”I have been fortunate to play some incredible gigs in my time – but this will be extra special.”The singer will be performing his hit ballad Here in front of tens of thousands of fans at the event, which is due to take place on 11th June.Professional footballer and Queen of the Jungle Jill Scott will be captain of the Soccer Aid England Team, with rapper Stormzy heading the management team.Their rival Soccer Aid World XI team will be managed by Spice Girl Melanie C, along with Line of Duty’s Martin Compston, Robbie Keane and Mauricio Pochettino.Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt will be stepping up as captain for the World XI team, which also includes players such as comedians Mo Gilligan, Lee Mack and Masie Adams, as well as Love Islander and boxer Tommy Fury.
