Will Usyk fight Tyson Fury
Todd DuBoef believes an undisputed heavyweight title showdown between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk can still happen sooner rather than later. Negotiations for WBC title holder Fury and WBA, WBO and IBF champion Usyk to face each other broke down in acrimonious circumstances earlier this year, with the Ukrainian instead facing Daniel Dubois in a mandatory bout last month which he won via a ninth-round stoppage.
Stream boxing and top sport with NOW | Live boxing on Sky Zhang was ‘very close’ to Fury fight | Tyson remains ‘first target’ Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk ‘won’t be hard to make,’ says Bob Arum | ‘Could be December’
“Absolutely,” DuBoef told Sky Sports, “I think we were plagued by timing in this last go-around. Timing from both guys just didn’t match up and we were trying to squeeze this fight in, in the spring, before the Dubois-Usyk mandatory had to happen. “There were a bunch of circumstances, so the good news is Usyk came out of the fight with Dubois.
Some people thought he didn’t look as good as they thought he would, but it was a really good, competitive fight. “Tyson is going to stay razor-sharp and hopefully is going to be fighting the baddest man on the planet, and they’re going to be going at it. “I think, soon after that, it would be appropriate, and the stars should align for timing purposes, that the unification happens very soon.” Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player Tyson Fury appeared to rule out a unification bout with Oleksandr Usyk, claiming he is fighting for money and has no interest in fighting for legacy.
DuBoef would not be drawn on when a much-anticipated clash between Fury and Usyk could happen but did add a “shorter horizon” for it following the 35-year-old’s fight with Ngannou makes sense. He hit back at those critics complaining big fights are not being made as well, insisting an appetite still remains for it to happen.
- DuBoef compared it to negotiations Top Rank CEO Bob Arum and rival promoter Don King were involved in while making the welterweight unification fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad in 1999.
- There was always an appetite,” DuBoef said.
- There’s always an appetite to present something when it’s always going against public opinion where people say ‘you can’t make the big fights’.
Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player Speaking on Toe2Toe, Scott Welch discussed Tyson Fury’s fight against Francis Ngannou and his future after that bout. “I remember when they said ‘Bob and Don will never make De La Hoya-Trinidad’, and we sat in a deli with Don and the three of us made the fight.
- Sometimes, a lot of the narrative is created online and on social platforms today, and that’s unfortunate and it creates headwinds for reality.
- People have knee-jerk responses to what they hear out there and it kind of drives the negotiation, so if we could keep everybody off the social platforms, I think the alignment of where you could get a big fight to unify all the titles, particularly in the heavyweight division, is very appealing for everyone.” Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk told Sky Sports they remain hopeful and are willing to cooperate with Fury’s team to make the fight happen.
“We’ve always been optimistic and cooperative,” Krassyuk said. “Usyk even accepted a 70/30 split early this to make it happen.”
Is Tommy Fury close to Tyson Fury?
Tyson Fury and Tommy Fury are two fighters whose names transcend the sport for very different reasons, with both becoming among the most recognisable figures in British boxing. Tyson has forged a path to becoming potentially undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, while maintaining an undefeated record.
His trilogy of fights against Deontay Wilder elevated him to worldwide fame after his well documented comeback from obesity and depression to become heavyweight champion of the world once again. Tommy, meanwhile, shot to fame in 2019 when he entered the Love Island villa as a contestant having already embarked on a professional boxing career.
On the reality TV show, he met his partner, Molly-Mae Hague, with the pair going on to become a famous couple both on social media and increasingly across all forms of entertainment. However, when asked, Tommy was resistant to the comparisons, confessing that he believed he was a “nobody”. He said: “This is my life.
It’s all I have ever worked for. “I trained as an amateur, running in the dark nights, in the cold mornings for stuff like this; media workouts, public workouts, big fights, big stages, and now it’s about to happen. “Everyone who knows me will tell you I’m a quiet kid, keep myself to myself, go about my business, train hard and that’s it, nothing more to it.
No big things in my life.” John Fury has five kids in total and two others, Shane and Roman, have connections to the sport of boxing. Shane, younger brother of Tyson, is often seen accompanying the world heavyweight champion at fights while Roman turned pro in 2020. How much is Nate Diaz getting paid to fight Jake Paul?
Jake Paul vs Nate Diaz prize money: How much did fighters earn for boxing match?
- Jake Paul added another win to his record on Saturday night after he beat former MMA fighter Nate Diaz in Dallas.
- Though Paul failed to knock Diaz out, he eventually won a decision victory over the former MMA competitor, bringing his record to 7-1, with four knockouts.
- While the numbers aren’t confirmed, Paul reportedly brought home an estimated $2m from the fight, while Diaz is believed to have won a guaranteed $500,000.
Those numbers track with Paul’s most recent fights, in which he took home $2m following his bout with Tyron Woodley and $1.5m after battling Anderson Silva.
- In addition to his fight purse, Paul also was given a share of the pay-per-view earnings, which could boost his total take to as much as $10m.
- While still a significant payout, its significantly less than he took home after his first loss earlier this year to British boxer Tommy Fury, which he said netted him $30m between his purse and PPV earnings.
- In that fight Paul took home 65 per cent of the PPV earnings, as opposed to his 50-50 split with Diaz in his most recent bout.
- Following his decision loss to Fury, Paul said he had a rematch clause in his fight contract and has been insistent that the two men will meet again in the ring.
That may not be the only rematch on Paul’s horizon; following his fight on Saturday, he reportedly made a $10m offer to fight Diaz in MMA. Diaz reportedly initially scoffed at the idea, but appeared more open to it following the bout. That match may have to take a back seat to Paul’s rematch with Fury or Diaz’s anticipated bout with Conor McGregor.
Why did Fury Usyk fall apart?
Bob Arum Reveals The Real Reason Fury-Usyk Fell Apart Tyson Fury’s US promoter, Bob Arum, is honest in his assessment of the failed negotiations with Oleksandr Usyk. The two fighters were set to make history by putting their world titles on the line to crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis, and the first ever in the four-belt era.
Initially targeted for Saudi Arabia, complications mean the contest would have to take place at Wembley Stadium. This opened up a fresh set of talks about purse splits and rematch terms. Arum told the reason it did so was the promise of Middle Eastern money. “Nothing really went wrong. I think what happened was the initial deal was easy to make, but there was no urgency on either fighter because the Saudis were talking about putting up really big money to get the fight done in November / December.
So I think that it was hard to keep the fight together under those circumstances, because the money that they could make in Saudi if it was real was so many times more than what they would make for a big fight in the UK.” It’s that Saudi influence on the sport that Arum ultimately attributes the collapse to, certainly not laying the blame at his own man’s door but saying he ‘doesn’t fault’ Usyk either.
I don’t think you put the blame on anybody. It’s a business and I can see where each fighter was coming from. I was involved in the middle of those negotiations, and I don’t fault either fighter.” It’s reported that the offer from Saudi Arabia will still be on the table come Winter, To keep the four-belt fight alive, they must stay active, but, more importantly stay champions.
