Who kills Palpatine

Answered By: Curtis Young Date: created: Mar 02 2024

5 Emperor Palpatine’s Death In Return Of The Jedi – Return of the Jedi, which belongs to both canon and Legends, ends with Anakin Skywalker’s redemption. Watching Palpatine torture Luke Skywalker with Force lightning, Darth Vader rejects the Sith and picks up his master, dropping him down a chasm to his death. The Legends continuity experienced a renaissance in the early 1990s, with Dark Empire being one of its most prominent installments. The ambitious comic series was initially going to have a new villain claim the helmet of Darth Vader and assume the dead Sith Lord’s name, but George Lucas himself suggested that Tom Veitch have Palpatine return from the dead instead.

The comic series’ name comes from Palpatine’s secret backup portion of the Empire hidden on the Deep Core world of Byss. Palpatine’s Dark Empire, which includes many of his deadliest troops, warships, and superweapons, menaces the fledgling New Republic in what becomes known as Operation Shadow Hand.

Palpatine himself cheats death through an exceptionally rare and unnatural dark side power called essence transfer, which he uses to inhabit cloned bodies kept in stasis on Byss. Palpatine’s first death in Dark Empire appears in issue 5, where he abandons one rapidly-decaying clone body for a younger one, allowing him to best Luke Skywalker in a duel. Issue 6 of Dark Empire includes Palpatine’s next death. Aboard his flagship, the Eclipse, Palpatine duels Luke Skywalker with his lightsaber again, this time with the Jedi being empowered by Leia Organa. The combined Force power of Luke and Leia proves too strong for even Palpatine, and he is dismembered and defeated by the Jedi, though he ultimately dies when he and the Eclipse are swallowed up by his own Force storm. Dark Empire has two sequel comics, Dark Empire II and Dark Empire II: Empire’s End, with Palpatine returning yet again in the former. The first Dark Empire series set a precedent: Palpatine will always return sooner or later if he is killed by conventional means.

For this reason, Palpatine’s final death, shown in the second and final issue of Empire’s End, does not occur when Han Solo blasts him from behind during the Battle of Onderon, but when the dying Jedi Knight Empatojayos Brand and the spirits of all deceased Jedi overwhelm Palpatine’s consciousness and keep it trapped in the Force forever.

Empatojayos Brand was a veteran of the Clone Wars and a survivor of Order 66, so the fact that he was the first Jedi spirit to trap Palpatine is fitting, considering that the sinister order and the ensuing Jedi Purge destroyed the old Jedi Order. Palpatine’s galaxy-wide pogrom of the Jedi facilitated his fascist coup, but it was ultimately the spirits of the Jedi he had murdered that trapped him within the Force forever.

Who kills Yoda?

Jedi Master Yoda, an ancient member of a mysterious Force-sensitive species, was widely revered as the wisest member of the Jedi Council. For 800 years, he trained Jedi. Yoda found himself overpowered in battle against Darth Sidious, who would become Emperor Palpatine, but his wise retreat gave him time to mentor a new hope before ultimately succumbing to old age and passing into the Living Force on the planet Dagobah.

Yoda survived many battles that threatened the Jedi, dueling his former apprentice on Geonosis and striking down his guards on Kashyyyk during the execution of Order 66. He even went head to head with the nascent Emperor, only to be forced into exile at the end of the Clone Wars. During the Clone Wars, however, Yoda began hearing the voice of the dead Qui-Gon Jinn,

The fallen Jedi Master led him to Dagobah, a planet rich in the power of the Living Force. It is here that he found a path to the Wellspring of Life, and Yoda faced his own inner demons to learn the secrets of retaining part of himself even after death.

  • In Return of the Jedi, Following the rescue of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker returned to Yoda as promised.
  • The ancient master informed Luke that soon “night must fall,” alluding to his imminent death.
  • Even Yoda was not strong enough in the Force to stave off that inevitability.
  • It is the way of the Force.
  • He died of old age on Dagobah.

Fans of Jedi Master Yoda likely know that he retains much of his power even after passing into the Living Force. In The Last Jedi, he appears to Luke Skywalker as a Force Ghost after the fall of the Empire, coming to his aid even decades later as the human struggles with his choice regarding the First Jedi Temple on Ahch-to.

Who kills Obi-Wan?

Original trilogy (1977–1983) – Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi robes from Episode IV Obi-Wan Kenobi is introduced in the original Star Wars film living as a 57-year old hermit under the name of Ben Kenobi on the planet Tatooine, When 19 year-old Luke Skywalker ( Mark Hamill ) and C-3PO ( Anthony Daniels ) travel the desert in search of the lost R2-D2 ( Kenny Baker ), Obi-Wan rescues them from a band of Tusken Raiders,

  • At Obi-Wan’s home, the now-found R2-D2 plays a recording of Princess Leia ( Carrie Fisher ) saying that R2-D2 contains the plans for the Galactic Empire ‘s planet-destroying battle station, the Death Star,
  • Leia asks him to deliver R2-D2 and the plans safely to her home planet of Alderaan in order to help the Rebel Alliance,

Obi-Wan reveals to Luke his secret identity and explains that he is a Jedi, a member of an ancient group of Force -sensitive warriors. He explains that the Jedi were hunted down and exterminated by the Empire with help from his former apprentice, Darth Vader (portrayed by David Prowse, voiced by James Earl Jones ), the apparent killer of Luke’s father.

  1. He gives Luke his father’s lightsaber and asks him to accompany him to Alderaan and take up Jedi training.
  2. Luke, at first, declines; but after finding that his aunt Beru ( Shelagh Fraser ) and uncle Owen ( Phil Brown ) have been killed by Imperial stormtroopers, he decides to go with Obi-Wan to Alderaan and train as a Jedi.

At the settlement of Mos Eisley, Obi-Wan uses the Force to trick Imperial troops into letting them through a military checkpoint. They enter a local cantina and meet smugglers Han Solo ( Harrison Ford ) and Chewbacca ( Peter Mayhew ). Obi-Wan and Luke make a deal to travel to Alderaan aboard Han’s ship, the Millennium Falcon,

  1. During the mission, Obi-Wan begins instructing Luke in lightsaber combat,
  2. He suddenly feels “a great disturbance in the Force”, and when the ship comes out of light speed, he and the others find that the Empire has destroyed Alderaan.
  3. The Falcon then encounters an Imperial TIE fighter,
  4. They chase the TIE fighter to the Death Star, and subsequently get caught in the battle station’s tractor beam.

On board the Death Star, Obi-Wan ventures through and disables the tractor beam. Moments later, Vader confronts him, and they engage in a lightsaber duel. Obi-Wan uses the duel to distract Vader as Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewbacca escape to the Falcon, Obi-Wan allows Vader to strike him down, and his body mysteriously vanishes the moment he dies.

At the climax of the film, during the Rebel attack on the Death Star, Obi-Wan speaks to Luke through the Force to help him destroy the battle station. In The Empire Strikes Back, Obi-Wan Kenobi appears several times as a spirit through the Force, On the ice planet Hoth, he appears to instruct Luke to go to the planet Dagobah to find the exiled Jedi Master Yoda ( Frank Oz ).

Despite Yoda’s skepticism, Obi-Wan convinces his former teacher to continue Luke’s training. Obi-Wan appears later to beseech Luke not to leave Dagobah to try to rescue his friends on Cloud City, although Luke ignores this advice. In Return of the Jedi, Obi-Wan again appears to Luke after Yoda’s death on Dagobah.

1 Luke Skywalker – Say what you will about Luke’s whining, the power he wielded in Return of the Jedi was no match for Darth Vader. Having faced his father once before, Luke was familiar with his tactics and used the force to gain an upper-hand. In Star Wars Canon, only Luke Skywalker can be acknowledged as the one who truly defeated Darth Vader.

Who killed KYLO Ren

Answered By: Gordon Watson Date: created: Nov 24 2023

The Rise of Skywalker Nailed Kylo Ren’s Redemption – After Kylo Ren killed Snoke to save Rey in The Last Jedi, it seemed like Ben Solo had finally been redeemed and that the Star Wars sequels would completely flip the original trilogy’s villain formula. However, with Snoke dead, there were no other Star Wars sequel trilogy characters who could be the final antagonist for the third film.

Craving power, Kylo Ren decided to become Supreme Leader instead of turning his back on the First Order, a decision that put Ben Solo’s redemption arc in check. But by bringing Emperor Palpatine back, The Rise of Skywalker made sure that Kylo Ren was not the only villain the heroes would have to face.

With a new, much more powerful Star Wars villain now part of the story, it became easier for Kylo Ren to be redeemed. It was difficult to imagine that Palpatine, the most purely evil Star Wars villain who opposed the heroes across three generations, would not be the final antagonist, and that he would have to share screen time with Kylo Ren for the entirety of the movie.

Palpatine was the sequel trilogy’s endgame, a villain that could only be defeated if Rey and Kylo worked together, Palpatine’s return is what made Kylo Ren’s redemption possible, story-wise. Still, a “there’s always a bigger fish” Star Wars scenario was not enough to sell that Kylo Ren would now be Ben Solo again.

If Kylo simply switched sides only to have a chance at defeating Darth Sidious, then it would not have been an actual redemption arc. That is why The Rise of Skywalker ‘s Kef Bir duel was so important, as it offered Kylo the chance of a more personal, earnest redemption.

Why did Anakin turn evil

The story is Anakin was manipulated to the dark side by Palpatine based on fears of losing Padme and appeals to his desire power and agency, over his life and the galaxy as a whole.

How Obi-Wan died?

One of the most innovative, exciting, and tragic things in Star Wars: A New Hope was the duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader. The duel ended with Obi-Wan’s death and the disappearance of his body (we would later find that he had turned into a Force ghost), and Luke had to come to terms that his mentor is gone.

Star Wars: A New Hope surprised everyone with how wildly popular it became and it set the standards for the space opera/science fiction genre storytelling. It was also innovative in the things that were done to craft the ships and special effects, and, of course, the lightsaber which had fans hooked since Obi-Wan Kenobi pulled Anakin’s blue lightsaber out to show Luke.

Lightsabers were elegant, fascinating weapons. Not only did they glow blue, and then red, as fans saw with Darth Vader’s, but they also were dangerous and exciting. When they were shown in a duel, it had fans unable to tear their eyes away from the screen.

  1. RELATED: Ranking The Top 5 Best Lightsaber Battles From The Movies The lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader was the first duel that is shown in Star Wars, and while it was not full of acrobatic flips or platforms or drama, it still had audiences riveted to the screen.
  2. It was a pretty basic “sword fight” and did not last long at all before Obi-Wan effectively let Darth Vader cut him down.

It ended tragically, with such a feeling of loss. However, it was not bloody, gory, or dramatic. In fact, no one lost a limb or got a cut. In terms of lightsaber battles in Star Wars, it was definitely the tamest. It was needed in the story for Luke to grow on his own.

  1. However, this duel almost ended very differently than what it ended up being shown in the movie.
  2. From the first time we met Obi-Wan, we learned that Darth Vader was Obi-Wan’s failed apprentice.
  3. Vader and Obi-Wan felt each other’s presence while on the Death Star together.
  4. Obi-Wan knew that they would meet and was ready for the encounter.

It was inevitable from the start that the two would meet in battle. While by today’s standards, the duel was rather slow, it was not missing suspense. Fans root for Obi-Wan to win, and for good to triumph over evil. Unfortunately, it was not that easy. Good seemed to have lost, for now.

  • In the novelization for A New Hope, Obi-Wan’s death was different than what was shown on screen.
  • Vader still killed Obi-Wan, but it was described in much more detail than Vader just simply cutting down Obi-Wan.
  • This was the passage: ” lunged forward, feinting, and then slashing in a deadly downward arc with the saber.

It struck home, cutting Kenobi cleanly in half.” From the movie, we all know that Vader just ended up cutting the blade through Obi-Wan’s mid-section, and then Obi-Wan’s body disappeared. In the novelization, Obi-Wan’s body still disappeared. However, this passage seemed to suggest a much more gruesome end.

Obi-Wan was cut down vertically instead of horizontally. This section read much more like what Obi-Wan ended up doing to Darth Maul during their duel on Tatooine. Even though Obi-Wan’s body disappeared, physically seeing him being cut in half through the head would have added a level of gruesomeness to this scene that would have probably changed the entire tone of the fight.

Of course, novelizations are known to embellish quite a bit, because obviously, in writing a novel from a movie, you have that room to add a lot more descriptions. In addition, another note seemed to suggest that Obi-Wan’s death was supposed to look different from the final product.

This was from the actual screenplay for A New Hope, which read: “Vader brings his sword down, cutting old Ben in half.” Again, you had the downward slash cutting Obi-Wan in half instead of the side slash. From that line in the screenplay and the line in the novelization, it appeared George Lucas definitely had the vision of Obi-Wan dying by being cut in half vertically.

Something happened though and that was not what ended up being filmed. If it had worked out, and they had gone with what was in the screenplay, it definitely would have added a very dark turn of events to the scene and added an overall darker tone to Star Wars,

Can Vader defeat Yoda

Answered By: Gilbert Jackson Date: created: May 19 2024

Why Yoda Would Beat Darth Vader – There are certainly scenarios where Darth Vader would have the upper hand in a duel with Yoda, but in most cases, Yoda would be the more likely victor. Vader wields absurd levels of Force power during his dark side prime that would certainly rival Yoda’s own abilities, but likely not exceed them.

You might be interested:  Who Left Bake Off This Week?

No matter what Anakin threw at Yoda Force-wise, it’s hard to imagine the grandmaster not being able to at least stand his ground. Therefore, as was the case in Yoda’s duel with Dooku, a Yoda/Vader fight would likely be decided not by their respective knowledge of the Force, but by their skills with a lightsaber.

Even at 900 years old, it’s hard to imagine Yoda losing to Darth Vader in a lightsaber duel, While Anakin’s Force abilities grew stronger after his mechanical reconstruction, his mobility and dexterity remained somewhat hampered. That doesn’t hurt him much when he’s taking on legions of rebel soldiers, but it would put him at a disadvantage when pitted against Yoda’s relentless Form IV fighting.

Anakin’s win/loss record in duels is honestly a bit shaky, both before and after his transformation into Darth Vader. He’s lost to Dooku, Obi-Wan, and Luke in different stages of his life, and though he hunted down and killed plenty of Jedi as Darth Vader, none of them were anywhere near Yoda’s power level.

Are there different scenarios where Vader could defeat Yoda one-on-one? Absolutely. But it would be an uphill battle, and Yoda would likely have the upper hand in most situations.

Who killed Padme?

Palpatine Knew Padmé Was Dead, Which Makes More Sense If He Killed Her – Right after Anakin dons the Darth Vader mask and takes his first mechanical breath, Padmé takes her last breath and passes away. Darth Vader awakens, and his first question is about the whereabouts of Padmé. Palpatine tells Darth Vader that in his anger he killed her, placing the blame for Padmé’s death on Vader.

  • Vader denies it, saying he sensed Padmé was still alive, which the audience knows she was as Obi-Wan escaped on the ship with her.
  • As Vader breaks down in grief, Palpatine smiles in victory – but how did he know that Padmé died? Earlier in Revenge of the Sith, when Palpatine is battling with Yoda, Palpatine can sense when Anakin is in danger, suggesting that he can sense the state of others’ Life Force from across the galaxy.

This falls in line with Palpatine knowing that Padmé was still alive after Anakin Force-choked her. It also is suspect that as Padmé loses the will to live, the scene is intercut with Anakin being placed in his suit to save his life. This, along with Palpatine’s knowing smile, proves that Palpatine could use Darth Plagueis’ technique and drain the Life Force out of Padmé to save Anakin and then use her death to push him over the edge to become Darth Vader.

Who killed Luke Skywalker?

How exactly did Luke Skywalker die in The Last Jedi? The Last Jedi is one of the more divisive Star Wars films, largely because of how it handled the story of Luke Skywalker, including the legendary character’s death. While some fans felt it was a powerful ending for the character, others felt it was not a worthy or fitting end.

How did Luke ultimately die, though? Luke died after Force projecting his appearance from Ahch-To to Crait. Force projecting himself so far across the galaxy required every ounce of his energy and willpower. While he successfully achieved this feat, the energy and mental stress required to make it happen drained everything from him and is what ultimately killed him.

Luke made this sacrifice knowing it was the only way to save Leia, Rey, and what remained of the Resistance. The distraction that he provided gave them the opportunity to escape. It also taught his nephew Ben Solo a final lesson about redemption and sacrifice, along with reigniting a much-needed spark of hope for the entire galaxy.

  1. After returning from his Force projection, Luke spent his final moments watching the sunset on Ahch-To and was filled with a sense of peace and purpose before passing away and becoming one with the Force.
  2. Despite passing on, fans saw Luke again as a Force ghost in The Rise of Skywalker,
  3. When Rey stranded herself on Ahch-To and was at her lowest point, Luke’s Force ghost arrived to comfort her and provide some much-needed wisdom, hope, and invaluable tools that she would need to complete her journey.

Luke’s voice was among the many voices of past Jedi who gave Rey the inner strength she needed on Exegol. His Force ghost also appeared one last time alongside Leia’s Force ghost at the end of the film as they proudly watched Rey on Tatooine. While many fans still disagree about how Luke’s story was handled in the sequel trilogy, there is no denying that Luke’s death was one of the most momentous in the saga.

The Phantom Menace – In his first appearance, Darth Maul is sent by his master Darth Sidious ( Ian McDiarmid ) to capture Queen Padmé Amidala ( Natalie Portman ) of Naboo to force her to sign a treaty that would legitimize the Trade Federation’s invasion of the planet.

Maul manages to track her starship to Tatooine, where he briefly engages Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn ( Liam Neeson ), who has been assigned to protect the Queen. After escaping Tatooine, Qui-Gon concludes that Maul is a Sith Lord and informs the Jedi Council on Coruscant of the Sith’s return. In the film’s climax, Maul duels Qui-Gon and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi ( Ewan McGregor ).

He is able to kill Qui-Gon and knock Obi-Wan down a shaft, but Kenobi propels himself out of the pit and uses Qui-Gon’s lightsaber to bisect Maul, sending the two parts of his body falling down the shaft.

What were Darth Vader’s last words?

“You were right about me. Tell your sister you were right.” Those were the last words Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader, ever said while he was alive, In his last moments, the former Padawan turned Jedi turned child murdering Lord of the Sith admits to his son, Luke, that there was good in him, as Luke had hoped — and wants to make sure his daughter, Leia, knows that too.

  1. And now we know that Luke granted his father’s dying wish.
  2. Upcoming Star Wars novel The Princess and the Scoundrel by Beth Revis picks up after the events of Return of the Jedi,
  3. And while the title obviously suggests it’s going to focus more on the budding romance between Leia Organa and Han Solo, it also includes a conversation between Luke and Leia on Endor, a few hours after the big Ewok party celebrating the destruction of the Death Star.

The official Star Wars website has the complete excerpt, but here’s the particularly important part. He told me to tell you –” Luke started, but Leia’s head whipped up, eyes fierce as she glared at him. “Don’t,” she warned. “They were his last words. He wanted me to tell you –” “I don’t care.” “He was good,” Luke insisted.

There was still good in him, after all” My father was good, Leia thought, but in her mind she pictured Bail Organa, not Darth Vader. Thinking of Bail made her think of Breha, her mother. Of her home. Of everything she had lost. So Luke told Leia that there was good in the evil Darth Vader, but Leia still struggled to think of him as her true father.

This, of course, makes sense, especially after seeing Obi-Wan Kenobi where a young Leia had a very good relationship with her adopted parents. The rest of the passage also mentions that her feelings about Vader might be complicated because he literally tortured her, which was implied in A New Hope,

  • But, we’d imagine, over the course of the novel maybe she reaches some peace to know that her biological father wasn’t that guy.
  • At least in the end.

Why did Anakin turn evil so fast

Answered By: Carl Mitchell Date: created: Aug 22 2024

During Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Anakin’s turn to Jedi slaughter can feel too sudden. But from his point of view, the drastic act makes sense. While the Star Wars prequels receive positive reception nowadays, there was a time when audiences were far harsher to the trilogy. And taking the brunt of the criticism was Anakin Skywalker, with people taking issue with both the character and actor. One such complaint was Anakin’s turn to the dark side; to this day, some audiences still believe his switch from a friendly Jedi Knight to a child murderer is too drastic.

And while they’re not necessarily wrong, the sudden change makes complete sense from Anakin’s point of view. Star Wars: Attack of the Clones shows how problematic Anakin is; he disobeys the Jedi council, slaughters the Tusken women and children, and even goes as far as to marry in secret. However, he’s still a somewhat charming and caring person, far from the Darth Vader he’ll eventually become.

And the same trend continues throughout Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where, despite having moments of darkness seeping through, Anakin has nothing but compassion for the friends and family around him. Even for the first half of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Anakin enjoys making quips and shows great care for Padmé and Obi-Wan. And so, with the one-week timeframe the movie takes place in, it can feel unnatural that Anakin turns to killing every Jedi without discrimination and even Force-choking his wife to near death.

  1. However, all this sudden anger is the result of decades of manipulation from Palpatine,
  2. With Qui-Gon Jinn’s death in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Anakin lost the father figure he needed in his life.
  3. So Palpatine was there to swiftly take over the position and became one of the few people Anakin spoke the truth to.

He knew all about Anakin’s misdeeds and disdain for the Jedi, all while he encouraged this behavior, subtly convincing Anakin that the Jedi were outright evil. The next major step was to exploit Anakin’s compassion. Once he had the visions of Padmé dying, he couldn’t bear the thought of losing yet another loved one and saw it as his responsibility to keep her alive. Anakin even continues his trend as a good person and reports Palpatine to the Jedi, yet once again, they toss his feelings aside and insist he stay behind as they arrest the Sith Lord. Then, as a final realization of what the Jedi really are, Anakin witnesses Mace Windu try to strike down a defenseless Palpatine.

  1. He slices Mace’s arm and allows Palpatine to kill him in front of his eyes.
  2. And by this point, Anakin knows it’s too late to go back, so he finally gives in to the dark side, believing it to be the key to saving Padmé,
  3. The next time Anakin is seen is when he attacks the Jedi Temple and slaughters younglings, so the jump is rather jarring.

But he had a fierce hatred for the Jedi and truly thought that doing this dark deed would give him the power to save his wife. And most importantly, the dark side had taken him over. The dark side isn’t just a name for using unethical Force-powers; it’s an energy that corrupts the user.

As Yoda says in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, “If once you start down the dark path, forever will dominate your destiny, consume you it will.” There’s still a fair argument to be made that Anakin’s turn was too quick from a filmmaking perspective, as the story had to be told within a movie timeframe.

But as for the character, the drastic and depressing turn makes complete sense and shows how tragic the life of Anakin Skywalker really was.

How did Yoda die?

What’s the Official Reason for Yoda’s Death? – Star Wars has never really given an official reason for Yoda’s death. But the long-accepted cause was simply old age. Luke had left Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back without finishing his Jedi training. In Return of the Jedi, he went back to the swamp planet as he promised.

  1. However, he was met with an unexpected sight.
  2. Yoda was literally on his deathbed.
  3. He had been old in Empire, but he seemed healthy.
  4. He was able to lift an entire X-Wing, and he was able to train Luke without his age causing him any problems.
  5. So, seeing the powerful Jedi dying was a bit unexpected for Luke and for fans.

Even if it was unexpected, most fans took Yoda’s death at face value. After all, he was 900 years old, and having lived through multiple wars, he hadn’t lived a very relaxing life. It made perfect sense that his age would have finally caught up with him.
