Who was knocked out of Bake Off?
Who left The Great British Bake Off last night? – The Great British Bake Off semi final on November 8, 2022, saw the remaining bakers compete in Patisserie week. It kicked off with the Signature Challenge where the bakers made four identical mini Charlottes – although Sandro’s were judged too big.
- Judge Paul Hollywood declared Janusz’s offering too “untidy”, while Abdul and Syabira nailed it with their flavours.
- Next was a tricky Technical of a vertical tart with Syabira getting the No1 spot, and Sandro left trailing at the bottom.
- It all came down to the final showstopper, a Krokan which had to stand at least 60cm high.
With the judges raving about Syabira’s helix design and Abdul’s intricate space ship, it was down to a choice between Sandro and Janusz, with the latter’s Brighton Pride deemed messy. After much deliberating Paul and fellow judge Prue Leith sent home early favourite, Janusz,
The two-time star baker said: “‘It doesn’t surprise me. I am just leaving the tent, I am not upset. “The best bakers are left clearly: it was an amazing time, with amazing people.” The Polish-born baker posted on Instagram: “I DID IT! Being chubby, gay and the first Polish national contestant on GBBO I knew I had a lot to represent walking into the tent.
“I wanted to do this by being myself but also set myself a little challenge to wear a colour of the pride flag each week and hope that I could tick them all off mission accomplished! “I love being able to be a part of so many different communities and Great Britain is a home that’s allowed me to do that.” He signed off with “Janusz has left the tent”.
Why were there people missing from Bake Off
Great British Bake Off viewers were left shocked to find that not one but two of this year’s contestants were missing from the show. On tonight’s episode viewers were told that Rebs and Abdul would both not be competing. The reason behind their disappearance was that both of the bakers were ill.
- Illnesses have occurred in the tent before, but never with two contestants at once.
- Fans of the Channel 4 show took to Twitter to have their say on their absence.
- Lucy Brewer (@lucy_brewer) said: “Oooh controversial straight off the bat with sickness amongst the group.
- Hope they’re ok and back next week!” Their absence left some viewers confused about whether anyone would be eliminated from the competition.
Shi (@VIRTUEMOIRS) said: “How is this week gonna work if Rebs and Abdul aren’t there? Hang on.” Ariadne (@Ariadne_Reviews) pointed out that it might mean that no-one would be going home in this week’s episode. She said: “This does mean that nobody is going home though doesn’t it?” She added: “To be fair to Rebs and Abdul, I would have pulled a sicky for Bread Week too.” Bread week is one of the competition’s toughest weeks as Paul Hollywood specialises in baking bread.
- The first challenge of the episode saw the bakers make a pizza, which was a first for the show.
- But some of the choices of toppings left viewers disgusted.
- Phil (@Phil_tutty) commented: “I’m not a pizza snob or purist, but there are some absolute wrong uns in this tent.” Janusz caused mixed reactions with his decision to put a full English breakfast on his pizza.
Ash Jayy (@Thepictureofaf) said: “Janusz doing a full English pizza, a man after my own heart!!” But Hellen WAlmsley-J (@TheVintageYear) disagreed and added: “Baked beans on a pizza. Are you mad, Janusz?” But even some of the more well-known toppings proved contentious. If you’re obsessed with The Great British Bake Off and all things baking, you’re in luck as we are too! What happened in week 2? – Week 2’s signature challenge saw the bakers making “illusion macarons” – which essentially means a macaron that doesn’t look like a macaron. Dawn and Maxy received the first Hollywood handshake of the series, for their quirky daisy and yoyo-shaped bakes.
For the technical challenge, the contestants were asked to rustle up the classic Garibaldi biscuit – but this time they had to add a chocolate twist, courtesy of Prue’s wicked meddling. Unfortunately, many bakers found this heat of the episode particularly challenging due to Prue’s vague instruction to “feather” the white chocolate.
The 90-minute episode finally came to a dramatic crescendo with the showstopper challenge, when bakers were tasked with the bizarre mission to bake a 3D biscuit mask. Maxy managed to secure the title of star baker, however, sadly it was all a bit too much for Maisam, who was eliminated after a frenzied panic during the showstopper left her with a broken biscuit mask.
