Is iD part of Vodafone
ID Mobile is a mobile network owned by Currys that uses Three’s network. It offers a range of great value Pay Monthly, Pay As You Go and SIM Only plans. But it really stands out due to the fact that plans come with data rollover and spending caps.
Who is better iD Mobile or Vodafone
iD Mobile review: Coverage and connection speeds – iD Mobile is a virtual network operator, running over Three’s 4G and 5G host network. Three has shown big improvements over the last year. RootMetrics’ latest results give Three a UK-wide median download speed of 29.9Mbits/sec, putting it well behind EE at 66.2Mbits/sec, but ahead of Vodafone, at 23.8Mbits/sec.
In the 16 metropolitan areas where RootMetrics runs specific tests, Three’s median download speed was faster than 20Mbits/sec in all of them, and faster than 40Mbits/sec in eight. RootMetrics no longer provides coverage maps, but Three’s 4G coverage reaches around 99.8% of the UK population, while its 5G services are available to approximately 56%, which means Three is running neck and neck with EE when it comes to 5G rollout.
That’s good news, as according to RootMetrics, Three is also pulling ahead of EE on 5G median download speeds, reaching nearly 200Mbits/sec. We didn’t have enough responses from iD Mobile’s 5G customers to find out how satisfied they were with their 5G service, but we do have the data for its host network, Three. It had the third-best results for 5G satisfaction, coming just behind EE and Sky Mobile, with a whisker over half of Three’s 5G customers (51.5%) satisfied or very satisfied.
That still leaves nearly half of Three’s 5G users dissatisfied, with the major issues being patchy 5G coverage (for nearly 65%) and a lack of noticeable speed improvements (for 44%). As far as reliability goes, 89% of iD users in our survey said that their connection was always or mostly fast enough for web browsing, and 64% said the same about audio streaming.
Less than 55% felt it was always or mostly fast enough for video streaming. This leaves iD Mobile somewhere in the middle of the pack, with better overall results than Tesco Mobile, Virgin Mobile and O2, but worse than Voxi, Smarty or Sky Mobile, View deals at iD Mobile
Has iD Mobile gone bust?
Is iD Mobile going bust? – Not in the UK. The Irish provider with the same brand did go bust. But there’s nothing to suggest the British company is in any financial trouble.
Is iD Mobile slower than Three
iD Mobile network map – Check iD signal using their official map (opens in new window) “You’ll get signal in the same areas with the same signal strength on both iD Mobile and Three. The big differences between them will be the other features they offer.” Compare pricing and deals Are there any differences in download speeds? We tested both networks against each other in real life, measuring speeds in the same areas at the same time. From this we found no evidence of speed differences. So the speed results from Opensignal apply to both networks. They measure average speeds on Three at 25.2 Mbps.
In reality you’ll find speeds as low as 9 Mbps in rural areas and we got peak speeds of around 44 Mbps in the city centre. The biggest benefit being on Three is their super fast 5G speeds. Results from Opensignal and Speedtest by Ookla show average 5G speeds between 103.9 Mbps – 246.65 Mbps, by far the fastest in the UK.
You’ll likely struggle with data speeds while you’re out in the countryside on Three, but that’s true to an extent for all networks. But it’s their 5G speeds that make them stand out among the other networks. Useful link: iD Mobile’s 5G guide “This is another category where there’s nothing to separate the two networks. You get the same speeds in the same areas.” Compare pricing and deals Here are some network features that either network offer Since Three and iD broadcast their call signal (2G/3G) on frequencies that aren’t great at getting indoors, it’s important for both networks to offer extra features to help with this. Both offer WiFi calling as a solution. WiFi calling lets your phone connect to calls using WiFi signal when conventional call signal is poor.
Both networks also let you send/receive SMS messages via WiFi and let you move from WiFi to 4G without your call dropping. Of course, both offer 4G calling which means you can take calls over 4G. But iD don’t offer it on pay as you go, while Three do. Three also offer WiFi hotspots on the Underground that pair well with WiFi calling.
Another big difference is that Three’s list of supported devices is much longer than iD’s, meaning you’ve got a better chance getting WiFi calling to work on Three than on iD. Useful link : Read what difference 4G calling makes

Is iD Mobile going into liquidation in the UK?
iD Mobile placed into provisional liquidation
- 40,000 customers of iD Mobile, the mobile phone network owned by Dixons Carphone in Ireland, will have to move providers after the business was placed into provisional liquidation.
- The business has been up for sale for over a year, but no buyer could be found and so its owner has decided to close it down.
- iD Mobile was set up in 2015 after Three Ireland took over O2 Ireland.
- In order to maintain competition in the marketplace, Three was ordered by the European Commission to provide mobile spectrum to two new “virtual operators” – mobile companies that use the networks of others to provide a service.
- Earlier, in the High Court, Ms Justice Caroline Costello appointed Tom Murray of Friel Stafford as provisional liquidator after she was satisfied the company was insolvent and unable to pay it debts.
The court heard that iD Mobile had accumulated a deficit of €25.2m after three years of trading.
- Ms Justice Costello said the orderly winding up of the company was in the interests of the customers and she noted the parent company was prepared to fund the liquidation.
- Dixons Carphone invested some €20m in setting up iD Mobile.
- It targeted 5-6% per cent of the market, or around 250,000 subscribers, but struggled to make that target.
- In a statement, Dixons Carphone said it had invested substantial resources to try to grow and support the business, but it said that it had been unable to reach the scale it needed to against established operators and its losses became unsustainable.
- Existing customers of the provider will be contacted by text, letter and email in the coming days and will be offered full service for the next 30 days.
- According to Dixons Carphone, bill-pay customers will not receive any further bills for their iD Mobile service and pay-as-you-go customers will be able to use any remaining call credit over this period.
- Customers will be able to move to another networks free of charge whenever they wish.
- “Helping our customers to seamlessly transfer over to an alternative network with minimum of disruption is our key priority,” said Mark Delaney, Managing Director of Dixons Carphone Ireland.
- Dixons Carphone says iD Mobile’s suppliers will also be paid for the services they provide during the period of the liquidation.
- The liquidation only relates to Ireland and iD Mobile in the UK will continue to trade as normal.
- 17 people are employed full-time at iD Mobile.
- Dixons Carphone says it is talking to them about their futures and some will be transferred within Carphone Warehouse where possible and where appropriate roles exist.
- The company says that, if a transfer is not possible, alternative options will be considered, including outsourcing to another company or redundancy.
- As consultation has only begun, Dixons Carphone says it is not yet clear how many of the 17 staff will lose their jobs.

Which SIM card company is best in UK
Best sim card for the UK in 2023 – International sim cards for the UK are worth considering especially for those who are traveling onwards in Europe and want to arrive prepared in the UK. For $24.90 USD you get send a sim card to your home address with 10 GB data in the UK and all of Europe.
Not bad, but e-sim cards are for the UK are even more affordable and much less hassle. The best e-sim card deal for the UK costs $22 USD and gives you 10 GB data. This all sounds pretty good, but as said before local prepaid sim cards offer more value for money, especially if you are a heavy data user.
iD Mobile Review – Are They Any Good?
Those who need just a couple Gigabytes for staying in touch with family, arrange stuff online and get directions I definitely recommend an e-sim card for the UK with just 1 or 2 GB. You can already order these UK e-sim cards for just $5 USD. When I updated my comparison of the UK prepaid sim cards in August 2023 I came to the conclusion that data plans on UK sim cards are pretty good.
Even more reasons for travelers to avoid high roaming charges and slow overseas data plans from their home providers. The UK mobile internet providers offer great deals on prepaid sim cards for tourist in the UK. Since Vodafone UK does NOT offer free EU-roaming and because Vodafone has the weakest 4G/5G network coverage in the UK, it would be my last recommendation.
Then EE does not allow prepaid sim card users to use the 5G network, which means max data speed on an EE prepaid sim card is only 4G/LTE when there is 5G network available everywhere. On top of that EE also stopped offering free EU data roaming. Therefore EE is also not a recommend prepaid sim card for the UK.
With a local prepaid sim card for the UK you can already get 70 GB data for just £20 GBP. As Three Mobile has one of the best 4G/5G data networks in the UK, offer great prepaid sim card deals for tourists, 5G network and some free EU data roaming, Traveltomtom rates Three Mobile as the best sim card for the UK in 2023.
UK prepaid sim card deals used to be pretty good for traveling in Europe, but since Brexit those days are over. Three and O2 still over some free EU data roaming, but it is very limited. When traveling onwards in Europe it is much easier to get yourself a sim card for traveling in Europe on the internet.

According to TFL ( https://tfl.gov.uk/campaign/station-wifi ): The Wi-Fi service is only available at stations. Thanks andewhite. What does this mean for customers on ID Mobile?
Legend 6857 replies Answer
Thanks andewhite. What does this mean for customers on ID Mobile? No tube station Wi-Fi service for iD Mobile customers – it’s only available for EE, O2, Virgin Media and Three customers. If you’ve got Virgin Media broadband at home, you might be able to use their app to use Virgin Media’s Wi-Fi hot-spots. I just joined ID mobile and used my home Virgin media Broadband account to log in on the tube. Not sure whether this works with other networks though.
Can you hotspot with iD Mobile
Wi-Fi hotspot & tethering | Join the discussion, ask questions, share advice. Find out everything you need to know about hotspotting or tethering with iD Mobile. What is hotspotting or tethering? A mobile hotspot is not tied to a physical location, so it allows you to turn your smartphone into an internet router by using your mobile data while you’re on the go.
This means you can connect other devices, such as a tablet or a laptop, to your mobile and access the internet on them. Any internet usage on your mobile or the connected devices comes out of your monthly data allowance. The main difference between hotspotting and tethering is that a hotspot connects one device to another to access the internet via a Wi-Fi connection.
Tethering is linking a device to a smartphone through a USB cable, with the mobile then acting as a router to access the internet on the connected device. Can you create a personal hotspot on Pay monthly plans?
- All our Pay Monthly handsets and SIM Only plans allow you to create a personal hotspot.
- If you have a plan with a limited amount of data, your hotspot usage will be taken from your monthly data allowance.
- However, if you are on an unlimited data plan, you can use your personal hotspot as much as you want without worrying about the cost.
If you do not have an unlimited data plan, you will want to carefully monitor your data consumption when using it as a hotspot, as streaming on other devices like a laptop uses a lot more data than on mobile. You can also set up a bill cap, so if you run out of data and start accumulating out-of-plan charges, you won’t pay more than you want to.
Can you create a personal hotspot on Pay as you go? You can create a personal hotspot on Pay as you go by using your standard top-up credit. This way you won’t need a data package, making the hot spot process for Pay as you go users the same as Pay monthly. It is important to remember that it takes a lot more data to stream videos or play games on a laptop or tablet than it does on a mobile phone.
If you are using your network connection to tether or hotspot, you will end up using a lot more data than you might expect. Whether you have a Pay as you go or a Pay monthly plan, you will want to closely monitor your data consumption when you are hotspotting or tethering.
- From the Home Screen, tap Settings

Who is the CEO of iD?
Wayanad native PC Musthafa, CEO and co-founder of iD Fresh Food, speaks a language that is fresh, crisp, robust and earthy. Express News Service PC Musthafa, CEO and co-founder of iD Fresh Food, speaks a language that is fresh, crisp, robust and earthy.
Much like his company’s trademark product – iD idli dosa batter. The transition of Musthafa from a boy who dropped out of school at the age of 10 to work on his father’s farmland, to becoming one of the most successful entrepreneurs in India, is now folklore. The ‘batter king’, as he is popularly known, however, continues to be as modest as ever.
Even as iD continues to expand rapidly, Musthafa hasn’t left his Wayanad roots behind. Though iD is now valued at over Rs 2,000 crore, he is still a farmer’s son at heart, one who believes that hard work, patience and faith always pays off. Excerpts from an interview Having come from a family of very little means, you went on to study engineering at NIT, did your MBA at IIM-Bengaluru and were in a comfortable corporate job. I’d say that for any business, there are three factors one needs to consider – scalability, sustainability and profitability. About scalability or market size, did you know that Bengalureans tuck in 1 crore idlis every day, the weight of 100 Asian elephants? Three to four meals in a week here are made out of batter, such as dosa, idli, uttappam etc.
Chennaiites eat idli-dosa three times a day. According to my estimates, the idli dosa batter business is probably the largest business opportunity in any food segment. Whenever my grandfather could afford it, he would buy rice and dal and make dosas or idlis for us. I had idlis for breakfast today. In future, I want my grandson to have idlis.
The idli, dosa business is probably one of the most sustainable businesses in the food segment. It has been there for generations and is not going to disappear. Coming to profitability – two-thirds of the batter is water. What is a better way to ensure profitability? Also from a personal side, I had a dream during my childhood to have three meals in a day.
- My father was an agricultural coolie and breakfast was a luxury.
- Today, I am part of a team that serves millions of Indians healthy food every day.
- My business is not by chance, it is by choice.
- Many mom-and-pop stores sell unbranded batter.
- There are other ready-to-eat food brands available.
- How did iD become a market disruptor? My cousins and I started iD with just Rs 50,000.
We bought one grinder, one mixer and a second-hand Scooty. It was back-breaking work. While my friends were having corporate lunches and sipping Costa coffee, I was going around with a sweat-soaked shirt. It took us nine months to sell 100 packets. But we didn’t give up.
Our product is our hero. Our product comes at a premium, but is the best in the market. Two, we didn’t take the credit away from the homemaker. We sell vada and idli batter, not idlis or vadas. Secondly, we constantly innovate and upgrade to stay ahead. A customer picks up our vada batter pouch, squeezes it to get round, crispy vadas with a hole in it.
It is a wow moment since those who never made vadas can now do so. It is soft, crunchy and you feel like having another. Tell us about your Telangana and Andhra Pradesh markets. My friends Rajesh Aiytham and Bhanu Valluri started the business in partnership mode in the Hyderabad region eight-nine years ago.
- Today, Hyderabad is one of our fastest growing markets.
- Our flagship product idli-dosa batter flies off the shelves.
- ID Malabar parathas and paneer are also very popular.
- What are your plans for expansion here? We have a factory in Kukatpally now and are setting up another one in Hyderabad’s industrial zone, which will be probably the second largest batter factory in the world.
It will be ready in four months. The dairy segment is already flooded. How are your paneer and curd products doing? After milk, paneer and curd are the most consumed products in dairy. Our paneer is made with just lemon concentrate and milk, which is why customers love it.
- In Hyderabad, we are the No.1 paneer brand.
- In fact, all our products are free of chemicals and preservatives.
- We wage a war against chemicals in food.
- What advice do you have for those who want to start a business but are worried about quitting their jobs? I was lucky because in the initial two-three years when we started iD, I was studying and then working and functioned mainly as an investor.
My cousins Abdul Nazer, Shamsudeen TK, Jafar TK and Noushad TA managed the show. For those budding entrepreneurs, who are worried about their salary, I’d say identify the right cousins (laughs). Are you also starting a cookware line? You have put up a video on Linkedin which shows an innovative dosa maker.
- I have been in this business for so long and I still don’t know how to make a perfect dosa.
- Sometimes, my dosas take the shape of Australia, sometimes Sri Lanka and India.
- So we were looking for a solution.
- After cracking the vada-making code, my cousin Nazer tried the new dosa tawa and it worked.
- The product is a dosa maker with a tawa, a lid, spreader and a spoon.
It will be available soon at an economical price. Like all businesses, yours too must have taken a hit in the Covid times. In fact, it is the other way round. People have started eating healthy now and our business has risen by 60 per cent in the last one-and-a-half years.
There has been a 10-time growth in e-commerce. I only hope we don’t go back to pre-Covid levels. Helion Ventures and PremjiInvest have invested in iD Fresh. How did you convince Wipro chairman Azim Premji to invest? Is there more funding coming in? I didn’t have to convince Mr Azim Premji. He had consumed some of our products and came forward to invest in 2017.
We are going in for our second round of funding in a couple of weeks’ time. What is your daily schedule like? How do you stay fit? Before Covid, I used to wake up at 5 am, do my prayers, play football with friends every day, go to office by 9.30 am and be back home with my family by 6 pm.
