Why did they cast Moaning Myrtle so old

Answered By: Angel Lewis Date: created: May 04 2023

She’s got adult emotions, and that’s why they were seeing all kinds of ages for this part—young and old actresses, but no children.’ Henderson then 36 years old, won the part after six months, donned pigtails, and used her distinctive, gravelly, childlike whisper to make the ghostly character highly memorable.

Who is the Moaning Myrtle in real life?

Highest Rated: 92% Stan & Ollie (2018) Lowest Rated: Not Available Birthday: Nov 24, 1965 Birthplace: Kincardine, Fife, Scotland, UK Shirley Henderson has been most widely-seen as Moaning Myrtle in the Harry Potter films- 2002’s “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and 2005’s “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” Henderson’s tiny frame and raspy voice have led to her frequent casting as introverted eccentrics.

  • Born in Forres and raised in the working class town of Kincardine, Hendeson enjoyed singing, performing on the high school stage and in small, local clubs.
  • At 17 she moved to London and attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
  • Upon graduation in 1986, she began to perform extensively on the stage, including the National Theatre, as well as occasionally working in British television.

In 1995, she landed her first major TV role, in the detective series “Hamish MacBeth.” MacBeth was played by Robert Carlyle, an actor Henderson worked with again in 1996’s “Trainspotting” and 2002’s “Once Upon a Time in the Midlands.” In 1999, Henderson got to showcase her singing talents in Mike Leigh’s Gilbert and Sullivan tale, “Topsy-Turvy,” and the same year she made “Wonderland” with director Michael Winterbottom. Does Moaning Myrtle love Harry

Answered By: Jesse Thompson Date: created: Sep 09 2023

Behind the scenes –

  • Moaning Myrtle was portrayed by Shirley Henderson in the film adaptations of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Being 5′ 0½” (1.54 m) and 37 years old when she first played Moaning Myrtle, she is the oldest actress to play a teenage Hogwarts student in the Harry Potter films.
  • Chika Sakamoto voiced Myrtle in the Japanese dubs.
  • Moaning Myrtle was based on the concept of crying girls found in communal bathrooms, such as those in parties and discos.
  • The myrtle tree is a close relative of the willow tree. “Moaning Myrtle” is a similar phrase to “weeping willow.” Her name is also possibly related to the “Moaning Minnie,” the British name for a German WWII artillery shell that made a distinctive moaning whine before it hit. File:LEGO Myrtle.png Myrtle as a LEGO minifigure
  • Myrtle is omitted from the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,
  • According to J.K. Rowling ‘s early drafts for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, this character was supposed to have been called “Wailing Wanda”.
  • Though never seen or mentioned, Ron and Hermione may have seen Myrtle when they went back down the Chamber of Secrets to destroy Hufflepuff’s Cup in Deathly Hallows,
  • The myrtle ( Myrtus ) is a flowering plant of southern Europe and north Africa. In Greek mythology, it was sacred to Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, and to Demeter, goddess of grain and fertility; Pausanias relates it to the tragedy of Adonis. The Roman poet Virgil relates the myrtle to Venus and used them in wedding rituals, something that Jewish liturgy, which deemed it sacred, also used. Myrtle has also uses in Wiccan rituals, and was considered medicinal by the ancients, including Hippocrates, Pliny, Galen and Arabian writers. File:Myrtle human.PNG Shirley Henderson playing Myrtle.
  • Myrtle’s surname was never mentioned in canon, however in 2015, after being asked by a fan over Twitter, JK Rowling announced it was Warren and that Myrtle also had a middle name (Elizabeth). Rowling also referred to the middle name of Elizabeth as “just one of those classic British middle names”.
  • In one scene of Chamber of Secrets, Ron jokingly suggests that Tom Riddle earned his Special Award for Services to the School for killing Myrtle; this foreshadows the fact that Riddle did indeed kill her.
  • Myrtle is shown to have a crush on Harry throughout the series. In the Goblet of Fire film, the bathroom scene shows her acting sexually towards Harry.
  • Myrtle was also the first person to be killed by Lord Voldemort,
  • Shirley Henderson’s first scene in the film Bridget Jones’s Diary involves her character, Jude, crying in a womens’ toilets.
  • In LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, Harry and Ron battle Myrtle.
  • Hermione and Myrtle have a lot in common. They are both Muggle-born and both Hermione and Myrtle run to the girls’ lavatory upon being teased by classmates, a move that puts both in mortal danger (from a troll and basilisk, respectively). But while Hermione is saved by a repentant Ron and Harry, Myrtle is killed by the unfeeling Riddle.
  • At The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Moaning Myrtle haunts the restrooms, though only her voice is heard. File:Screenshot 1167.png
  • Shirley Henderson and Kelly Macdonald, who played another Hogwarts ghost The Grey Lady, played sisters in the film Intermission,
  • Apparently she never informed anyone about her death until she told Harry, Ron and Lockhart, It’s unknown why she never told Armando Dippet or Albus Dumbledore about the cause of her death. It is possible that shortly after her death she was too distraught or traumatised to talk about it and was not asked for fear of upsetting her.

What was the last thing Moaning Myrtle saw before she died

After Aragog reveals that the student who was killed by the monster of Slytherin died in a bathroom, Harry realises that Myrtle was probably the victim. When Harry asks her how she died, Myrtle says she was crying in the bathroom, heard a boy’s voice and saw a pair of large yellow eyes. She died instantly, and returned to haunt Olive Hornby, a girl who used to tease her.

How old was Myrtle when she died?

Myrtle Was Around 14 When She Died – Tom Riddle opened the Chamber of Secrets in 1942, precisely 50 years before his memory possessed Ginny to do the same. While it is unclear exactly how old Myrtle was that year, the Wizarding World website states that she was born in the late 1920s and started Hogwarts in the early 1940s.

Why is Moaning Myrtle so weird?

Myrtle’s Life and Afterlife Are Tragic – Myrtle Warren was born to two Muggle parents around the late 1920s, and her Muggle-born status would immediately set her apart from the rest of her family and peers. When she started at Hogwarts, she found herself sorted into Ravenclaw. Unfortunately, her time at the school was filled with relentless bullying because of her physical appearance.

  • Considering most of her time was spent crying in the bathroom, it’s sadly fitting that around age 14, her short life would end outside a bathroom stall at the hands of pre-Voldemort Tom Riddle and the Serpent of Slytherin.
  • It seems as if Myrtle became a ghost immediately after this, as she recounts sitting there and waiting for her body to be discovered.

The fact that it took hours for someone to realize she was gone is only one sign of how she was constantly mistreated in Harry Potter, Myrtle’s life was cut short when she was still a kid, so her weird, inappropriate behavior kind of makes sense. She never got a chance to mature much, so her childish behavior carried on into her afterlife.

This would explain why she’d be spying on people in the bathroom and even why she was so quick to torment her still-living bully, Olive. Myrtle’s stalking Olive led to intervention from the corrupt Ministry of Magic and her confinement to the bathroom, where she’s seemingly stuck for the rest of eternity.

Unable to leave, her socialization only comes from those who enter her bathroom. About 50 years pass before she meets Harry Potter, who is not only one of the few people that wander into the lavatory, but he’s one of the only people ever to show her compassion.

Why does Moaning Myrtle look so much like Harry?

The only real similarity is the glasses. Anything else is merely coincidence. After all she is a female and Harry is a male. Dark hair and dark eyes are very common in Great Britain.

Was Draco friends with Moaning Myrtle

Answered By: John Patterson Date: created: Dec 22 2023

Draco’s Strange Friendship With Moaning Myrtle, Explained – In an unusual storyline from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Draco forms a friendship with Moaning Myrtle, a ghost who haunts the Hogwarts bathrooms, Her first appearance is in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, where the central trio discovers that Myrtle was originally murdered by the Basilisk at the hands of Tom Riddle.

She appears again in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, as Harry must bathe in the prefect’s bathroom with the golden egg to unlock its clue as Myrtle looks onward. Her interactions are only ever with the main characters in the story in these two films in the screen adaptations, and she never crosses paths with Draco Malfoy.

However, Draco confides in Myrtle in the Half-Blood Prince novel after his stressful sixth year. At that time, he had been turned into a Death Eater and was tasked with killing Dumbledore on behalf of Voldemort. In a moment of transparency, Draco breaks down in the bathroom and explains the situation to Myrtle, who listens intently.

How did Voldemort lose his nose?

He lost his looks in the process of gaining immorality. He lost his nose as a sacrifice for immortality, such an immoral deed of tearing ones’ souls into pieces made him a little less human and so he lost his human features and developed reptilian features (like snakes who have slits in place of an actual nose).

Is Moaning Myrtle a Ravenclaw

Answered By: Owen Sanchez Date: created: Nov 18 2023

Moaning Myrtle – Before she was Hogwarts’ most, er, impassioned ghost, Moaning Myrtle was an unhappy and picked-upon child. Born in the late 1920s to Muggle parents, Myrtle Warren started her Hogwarts life in the early 1940s, where she was sorted into Ravenclaw, Myrtle’s transition from lonely student to eccentric ghost was thanks to the Chamber of Secrets, Having been teased by fellow student Olive Hornby, Myrtle hid in the first-floor girls’ toilets and began sobbing in one of its stalls. It was here that she ran into Voldemort himself, Tom Riddle, who she overheard speaking Parseltongue in order to open the Chamber, which was hidden behind the sinks.

Thinking that Riddle was intruding in the girls’ bathroom, she opened the stall door to tell him off – only to be confronted with the Chamber of Secrets’ Basilisk, whose gaze killed her instantly. Her body was later found by Hornby, whose discovery would haunt her – both figuratively and literally, for Myrtle returned as a ghost and immediately started to torment her.

After a complaint to the Ministry of Magic, Myrtle was consigned to the bathroom forever.

Who is Draco’s mom?

Narcissa Malfoy’s Very Dangerous Lie – Draco Malfoy’s mother Narcissa was cold, cunning and devoted to the Dark Lord. But she was also a mother, which meant she was willing to risk everything to make sure her son was safe. When Harry survived Voldemort’s Killing Curse for the second time, Narcissa pretended he was dead so she could get to Draco.

Lying to the Darkest wizard that ever lived, in his angriest moment? That took serious courage Hands, softer than he had been expecting, touched Harry’s face, pulled back an eyelid, crept beneath his shirt, down to his chest and felt his heart. He could hear the woman’s fast breathing, her long hair tickled his face.

He knew that she could feel the steady pounding of life against his ribs. ‘Is Draco alive? Is he in the castle?’ The whisper was barely audible; her lips were an inch from his ear, her head bent so low that her long hair shielded his face from the onlookers.

  • Yes,’ he breathed back.
  • He felt the hand on his chest contract; her nails pierced him.
  • Then it was withdrawn.
  • She had sat up.
  • He is dead!’ Narcissa Malfoy called to the watchers.
  • And now they shouted, now they yelled in triumph and stamped their feet, and through his eyelids Harry saw bursts of red and silver light shoot into the air in celebration.

Still feigning death on the ground, he understood. Narcissa knew that the only way she would be permitted to enter Hogwarts, and find her son, was as part of the conquering army. She no longer cared whether Voldemort won. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
