Does Nike sponsor Premier League?

The Premier League is set to end a 25-year partnership with Nike and turn to Puma as its official match ball supplier. The English top flight’s existing contract with Nike expires in 2025. US manufacturer Nike had the chance to extend a 25-year partnership but negotiations failed to reach a positive conclusion.

The Premier League has now reached an agreement with German firm Puma to supply match balls for all its fixtures from the 2025-26 season. Puma currently supplies official match balls for Serie A and La Liga, as well as the English Football League, with its Orbita ball used in those competitions. Nike’s Premier League deal began in 2000, with the Nike Geo Merlin becoming the top-flight’s first official ball in the 2000/01 season.

Match ball technology has developed across the subsequent decades, with the Nike Flight — billed as a “revolution in aerodynamics” — used last season. The new version of the Nike Flight will be used for the first time in 2023-24 when the Premier League returns on Friday, August 11 with Burnley hosting Manchester City,

  • As part of its deal, Nike has supplied kit and equipment for the Premier League’s youth development and international events, as well as for the schools scheme Premier League Primary Stars.

Which football club is sponsored by Nike?

Kit sponsors: 20 clubs, 7 brands – The 20 Premier League teams are sponsored by seven different clothing brands. We will see Adidas, Nike, Puma, Umbro, Hummel, Kappa and Under Armour on the Premier League pitches this season. In 2019/2020 there were eight different brands sponsoring Premier League kits, while there were six in 2018/2019, eight in 2017/2018 and ten in 2016/2017,

Adidas is once again the main kit supplier with seven teams. Arsenal, Leicester City, Manchester United, Sheffield United and Wolverhampton Wanderers will continue wearing the German brand. Promoted sides Fulham and Leeds United are added. Watford was relegated while wearing Adidas last year. Nike and Puma follow Adidas by each sponsoring four teams.

Nike already sponsored Chelsea, Tottenham and Brighton, but were able to bring in 2019/2020 champions Liverpool. A great catch, resulting in them now sponsoring three of the ‘traditional’ and last season’s top six. With the promotion of West Brom, Puma now sponsors an extra team compared to last season.

They already supplied Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and 2019/2020 runner up Manchester City. Before the 2019/2020 season the German manufacturer was able to secure a multi-year partnership with Manchester City – and several other clubs belonging to the City Football Group. Umbro saw their Premier League portfolio halved for the 2020/2021 season.

West Ham and Burnley continue to wear the English brand, but they lost Everton and Bournemouth. The blue Merseyside team switched to Danish brand Hummel, while Bournemouth was relegated to the Championship. Under Armour, Kappa and ‘newbie’ Hummel complete the list by each sponsoring one team.

Who is the biggest sponsor in football?

1. Real Madrid (Fly Emirates — €70 million) – Real Madrid is one of the biggest clubs in the world and have great commercial value and brand identity. They are one of the football clubs with the most trophies in the world. It’s not surprising that they have the most expensive shirt sponsorship deal in the world.

  • Real Madrid is the highest earner in Jersey sponsorship globally.
  • The club extended its partnership with Emirates Airlines in 2022 for another four years, worth €70 million annually.
  • The partnership between the Los Blancos and the United Arab Emirates-based airline company dates back to 2013, when the company signed the partnership to replace Bwin.

Apart from the deal with Real Madrid, Emirates is one of the global leaders in sports sponsorship and currently partners with teams like Arsenal, Hamburger SV, Olympique Lyon, etc. It is part of their lucrative contract with Emirates Airlines. Who is the biggest supporter in the Premier League?

1. Manchester United – 20 of 20

Michael Regan/Getty Images Of course, the Premier League team with the largest, widest-reaching fan base is Manchester United. In 2012 the Telegraph reported that, according to a survey, United had doubled their fan base during a five-year period—amassing an incredible 659 million fans. The survey, commissioned by the Manchester club, discovered that football has 1.6 billion fans globally with United having commercial partners in 72 countries. The Telegraph quotes United’s commercial director Richard Arnold as saying: This piece of research is very important, not only for commercial partnerships—both new and existing—but it also provides a roadmap that allows the club to understand exactly what is going on. Arnold refused to give details of rival fan bases but did reveal that United had twice as many fans in Asia as their nearest rivals—Barcelona. In addition to their global following, the Red Devils accounted for 39.9 per cent of Premier League shirt sales in the UK during the 2012-13 season, according to Kitbag, Robin Van Persie—who outsold his nearest rival Steven Gerrard by more than 17 per cent—featured in the top 10 alongside teammates Wayne Rooney, Shinji Kagawa and Paul Scholes, according to the Daily Mail, According to the StadiumGuide website, the Premier League sold 95.1 per cent of all available tickets throughout 2012-13 with United unsurprisingly one of only four clubs to sell out during each and every one of their home games.

Why haven t Chelsea got a sponsor

Answered By: Abraham Brown Date: created: Oct 01 2023

Chelsea won’t have a shirt sponsor for their opening game of the Premier League season. The club launched their new home shirt last month without a front-of-shirt sponsor after a three-year deal with telecommunications network 3 UK expired at the end of last season.

  1. Despite negotiations over a replacement moving towards a positive conclusion an agreement won’t be in place for the club’s opener against Liverpool on Sunday.
  2. They will instead wear their blue home shirt without a front-of-shirt sponsor.
  3. Introducing our 23/24 @NikeFootball home shirt! ⭐ 90’s inspired and shimmering in gold, celebrating 25 years since our iconic 97/98 season where we took home the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

#ItsA90sThing #ThePrideOfLondon — Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) July 10, 2023 Chelsea had agreed to be sponsored by U.S. streaming service Paramount Plus, however the move was rejected by the Premier League due to concerns it could cause problems with the league’s broadcast partners.

  • Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Amazon Prime are the Premier League’s current broadcast partners in the UK, and the league has a TV deal with NBC Sports in the U.S meaning any potential deal was judged to not be permitted under the league’s Deed of License.
  • There were also talks between the club and Stake, but supporters voiced their opposition to being sponsored by a gambling firm and no deal was agreed.

Stake has also sponsored Everton and Watford in recent seasons, but other clubs have chosen to part ways with gambling sponsors before new rules come in from August 2026. Though the new sponsorless kits for the 2023-24 season proved popular with fans, they never reached the point of sale. Why does Nottingham have no sponsor?

Are Nottingham Forest going to get a sponsor? –

  1. Nottingham Forest are certainly keen to secure a sponsorship agreement and the situation regarding the plain front of their shirts is not one they had planned for.
  2. According to reports from the East Midlands, numerous deals have been close to being agreed but none have got over the line yet.
  3. According to, Forest chairman Evangelos Marinakis is holding for a £10m-a-season deal and was willing to start the campaign without a sponsor if his demands were not met.
  4. There has also been a restructuring which has seen the club only make two key commercial appointments in the first week of August.
  5. Former Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley has been brought in by Marinakis to help push a deal through.

2 BOXT were the Nottingham Forest sponsors when they won promotion from the Championship in 2021/22 Credit: Getty At the end of July, Sheffield Hallam University finance expert Dr Dan Plumley told : “It’s ambitious. We have to look at benchmarks. “West Ham and Everton’s are around £10m or £11m.

  1. Newcastle and Leeds meanwhile are closer toward £7.5m.
  2. That is the region we’re looking at.
  3. We know betting companies will often pay more than non-betting companies.
  4. For a newly-promoted club, you are probably setting your sights towards £6m or £7m.
  5. So, Forest are going for above the benchmark there.
  6. The risk is that the longer you go without naming a sponsor, the more likely it could backfire.

“Sponsors want to be involved in every game and we are nearly at the start of the season now. “If it does come off, fantastic. It would put them among the biggest deals in the Premier League. But there is a risk we can’t ignore with this strategy.” But according to Simon Chadwick, Global Professor of Sport at Emlyon Business School, more clubs could follow Forest’s approach in the near future.

Has any team always been in the Premier League

Answered By: Miguel Hayes Date: created: Feb 11 2023

In the early 1990s, English First Division clubs believed that a radical restructuring of football was needed if they and the game in general were to develop and flourish. So on 17 July 1991, they signed the Founder Members Agreement, establishing the basic principles for the setting up of the Premier League.

  1. The League would have commercial independence from the Football League and The FA, leaving it free to organise its own broadcast and sponsorship agreement.
  2. On 20 February 1992, the 22 First Division clubs resigned from the Football League en masse and three months later, on 27 May, the Premier League was established as a limited company.

The first television deal was struck with pay-TV broadcaster BSkyB, a radical move at the time, but Sky has been ever-present and has played a key role in developing the League to its present levels. The inaugural Premier League campaign started on Saturday 15 August, 1992, with 22 clubs.

The 22 inaugural members of the new Premier League were Arsenal, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea, Coventry City, Crystal Palace, Everton, Ipswich Town, Leeds United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Norwich City, Nottingham Forest, Oldham Athletic, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Wimbledon.

Of these, six clubs have been ever-present in the Premier League: Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. When the Premier League was formed, there was always the intention to reduce the number of clubs to 20 to promote development and excellence at club and international level.

Which Premier League team has no English players?

Chelsea the first all-foreign team; Villa the last all-English – Chelsea were the first side to name a Premier League XI without a single Englishman in it, in a 2-1 win at Southampton on Boxing Day 1999. Striker Tore Andre Flo scored both goals for a Blues team which, in addition to the Norwegian, featured a Dutchman, a Spaniard, a Romanian, a Brazilian, a Uruguayan, a Nigerian, two Frenchmen and two Italians.

  • Since then, Arsenal have become the side most associated with the all-foreign Premier League line-up: as of February 2019, the Gunners had named 173 of them.
  • And it’s over 20 years since Aston Villa manager John Gregory put out what remains the last all-English team in the Premier League, in February 1999.

The three substitutes Villa introduced that day were also non-foreign, but the result certainly wasn’t an endorsement of the merits of going English: the Birmingham side were hammered 4-1 by Coventry City.

Is Arsenal sponsored by Nike?

Puma is on the verge of agreeing what is thought to be a £30m-a-year deal with Premier League team Arsenal to replace rival Nike as its kit manufacturer in a bid to bolster its football credentials in Europe. A deal with Arsenal could see Puma benefit from the global reach of the Premier League. The five year deal, which would come into effect from the end of 2013/14 season, surpasses the £25m-a-year tie-up Warrior Sports have with Liverpool FC to become the most lucrative in British football.

  1. It would see the end of Nike’s 20 year association with the London-based club after months of speculation that Adidas were close to agreeing a deal.
  2. Nike and Arsenal had explored an extension of the deal but it is thought the sportswear brand was unable to meet the club’s revised demands.
  3. A spokeswoman for Puma declined to confirm details but did not deny a deal had been agreed.

A spokesman for Arsenal said: “We do not comment on specualtion of this sort. However as previously stated we wre confident of agreeing a significant kit deal.” The club has earmarked 2014 as the start of a period where there commercial revenues would grow sharply after renegotiating deals with a number of existing sponsors including stadium sponsor Emirates.

Puma is looking to drive sales of its football products in Europe after focusing much of its activity around the sport in Africa, where it sponsors 10 teams as well as Cameroon and former Barcelona FC striker Samuel Eto’o. The business is looking to address a sustained period of under performance in western markets as it struggles to steal share from bigger rivals Nike and Adidas while also warding off the advances of US companies Warrior Sports and Under Armour.

A deal with Arsenal could see the Puma brand benefit from the Premier League’s global reach and should the club qualify for it next season the UEFA Champions League.
