Who wins 2022 Bake Off

Answered By: Brandon Hall Date: created: Oct 21 2023

Bake Off – 2022 winner revealed 16 November 2022 Twelve bakers entered the tent at the start of the competition, but only one could be crowned the winner of The Great British Bake Off 2022, and tonight Syabira, 32, from London celebrated her win in an amazing final episode.

Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith judged 12 Bakers with 30 Challenges over 10 episodes for the thirteenth series of, This series the Bakers have baked everything from a showstopper that resembled their home to a 3D biscuit mask, trick or treat piñata, Smorgastarta and floating islands. None of it was easy, but they all coped magnificently.

In the final episode, the three remaining Bakers had to battle it out in the iconic white tent for their last ever challenges of 2022 and for Syabira, Abdul and Sandro the stakes couldn’t have been higher as Paul and Prue set three challenges that would test every aspect of their baking prowess, using sustainable ingredients.

  • In a most challenging ever signature they had to make a seasonal summer picnic comprising of small vegetarian pies, beautifully decorated mini cakes, and baking their own classic white bread loaf to make finger sandwiches from.
  • Next was a summer pudding bombe in the tricky Technical and ending with an edible sculpture of Our Beautiful Planet in the stunning Showstopper showing three different baking skills.

The three Finalists put their all into this series and produced amazing baking creations. Paul said: ‘Well done Syabira. She can be a bit of a risk taker with her flavours and it has worked Some of the flavours we have never had in the tent before and unlikely to have again, she is an incredible baker.’ Prue added: ‘She is creative and she is careful, she practices like anything and she is imaginative, she just has the lot.

  • She is a very skilful baker.’ 2022 was to be Syabira’s year, and she triumphantly took the trophy home.
  • On hearing her win, Syabira said: ‘ Thank you so much.
  • I can’t believe it, honestly it hasn’t sunk in yet, this is the biggest achievement in my life.
  • All the hard work, all the trial and error, it has all been worth it.

I am very, very proud.’ The two runners up wanted to congratulate her and Sandro said: ‘I am so proud of Syabira, she is the Queen of Flavours, she fully deserves it. I am so happy for her. I am happy that I have got this far, and I am blessed, I am grateful.

It’s been an amazing experience, it’s been a dream.’ Abdul added: ‘For me this is a massive achievement, and I am so happy and proud of myself and I am happy for Syabira because she has worked so hard for this, and I am just so happy for her.’ Syabira, The Great British Bake Off Winner 2022, talks about her win: ‘I think I am coming out as a new person after this competition, I became more confident and I trusted my instincts.

We can do anything we want as long as we have all of our heart and we work for it. ‘Each of the finalists had won star baker. I had got to the final so that was a massive bonus, for some reason I was very calm that week. Whatever you do in that last week, well it’s the Final, so I was just excited to bake and really enjoy the experience.

  1. There were no nerves as we all knew we wouldn’t be in the next week.
  2. So I think we all just really enjoyed it.
  3. Sandro and Abdul – I love both of them.
  4. Abdul is just hilarious, he is like a cartoon character, he doesn’t talk that much, but he comes out with one liners that just crack the whole room up.

Sandro is competitive and focused and maybe in a way that helped me to up my game. I was so glad to be with both of them in the tent for the Final, it felt like being with my mates, especially at the Showstopper. We were all so desperate to see our friends and family who were patiently waiting outside.

  1. It was a shock when Janusz went, we were great buddies throughout and always backed and supported each other.
  2. We had such a good relationship and we celebrated finishing the Showstopper each week with a shot of Tequila later! It became a weekly routine and maybe more than one shot as the weeks went on.

‘I couldn’t believe it when I got Star Baker three weeks running, I had hoped that wouldn’t jinx it for me and I would be eliminated! And to top off all my good memories from the tent, I got a Hollywood Handshake from the man himself in Halloween Week.

That was a really good week for me which I didn’t imagine I would ever get, because the week before I was actually at the bottom, so that was a great result. ‘I was a risk taker with my unconventional flavours, but I think I managed to please the Judges presenting them with something they weren’t used to or expecting.

They usually ended up liking it, despite their reservations! As the weeks went through they trusted me more. ‘My worst challenge was always the technical. The love hate relationship between me and technical is real. However, in the very first week the Technical was a Red Velvet Cake set by Paul.

It’s one of my favourite bakes so that helped me and gave me confidence. But not all the Technicals were that kind to me! ‘In the final, the judges loved my signature of a seasonal summer picnic; my no porky pie using aubergine and mushroom, quail’s egg and piccalilli; and then broadbean, coriander and salsa verde in my finger sandwiches ; I used elderflower to infuse my swiss rolls with strawberry jam and rosemary cream.

The judges said my sizing was good, and they really liked the flavours and my sponge on the swiss rolls. ‘My summer pudding bombe for the Technical hadn’t quite set properly but Paul liked the flavours. For my showstopper of an edible sculpture Our Beautiful Planet Prue liked my shortbread and said it was delicious.

Paul said my flavours were superb.’ ‘Matt and Noel – I loved both of them particularly when we were stressed and panicking – because they felt nervous for you. Your relationship with them develops as you go through each week. ‘The judges were a bit scary at first and I tried to avoid eye contact with Paul, and Prue was always good cop.

Each week I gained more confidence at the judging. Paul and Prue are both really great people. ‘I had such a great time in the tent, I really loved the interviews in between filming and chatting during the filming with the fantastic crew. My best moment was when I was waiting for the technical challenge.

We would try any way to communicate with each other and feel like naughty school children if we got told off! My worst moment was when I cried and nearly gave up. And my favourite challenge was always the signature as it is short, simple and if you do well, it is a good start to the week. ‘I watched the final at home with the family and friends and made some cakes and we had some pretty expensive champagne on the side.

I will of course keep in touch with all my fellow bakers, and we meet up when we can. ‘Bake Off has helped me broaden my baking experience entirely and it has taught me a lot of basics that I didn’t have before I went in – which showed up in the Technicals! ‘I would like to say thank you to my partner Bradley who always said he would support my dreams, he always knew that I could do it.

  1. I feel like I have won the lottery jackpot, I don’t usually win anything so maybe baking is my hidden talent.
  2. Bradley said you are already a winner to get into the final.
  3. Syabira ends saying ‘I hope GBBO might just change my life and outlook.
  4. I have learnt to be more confident in myself.
  5. I believe there is only one way to know if you can do it, just do it! I will also try to never be too shy again and the knowledge that hard work always pays off.

‘I am not sure what’s next for me, it will be more like what door is open? I am also planning to have a YouTube channel showing how to conquer basic techniques in baking.’ Q&A with Syabira: Did you ever dream that you would actually get into the Bake Off tent, and what was your reaction when you got the call confirming your place? I always dreamed to be in the Bake Off tent, however I never dared to dream to be one of the 12 bakers during the application and interview processes.

Over the years, who or what has helped your baking improve?Over the years, books, youtube, my partner, family and friends have helped my baking improvement. You are given the prize of going up in a hot air balloon with a previous baker, who would you choose and why?I would love to go up with Kim-Joy.What’s the one kitchen utensil that you can’t really be without?I can’t live without my spatulas! In the very first week of filming what special memories do you have of that time?

I have my first relationship encounter with the induction hob and she is high maintenance. I don’t know how to make her work happily. 😀 If you had to make a cake of yourself in your proudest moment – what would it be and why, and what kind of cake would it be? If I have to make a cake, I would make a big butterfly cake, because this experience changes me as a person (in a good way).

As a baker what would you say are your strengths.and what are your weaknesses? My strength is I am quick to learn and a resilient baker. Throw me anything, I will make it work. My biggest weakness is perfection. Can you describe your emotions when you walked into the tent on the first day, was it what you expected it to be? On the first day I walked into the tent, it felt surreal! I couldn’t believe that I am one of the 12 bakers.

I felt sweet, nervous and at the same time excited. If you had plenty of time at home, what’s the craziest kind of Showstopper you can think of to make? If I had plenty of time, I would learn new crazy techniques or anything other than a showstopper. It is very big and I have concerns how I can distribute the cake because it’s massive! Is there any kind of cake or biscuit that you really don’t like and what is your all time favourite? My favourite cake is red velvet cake.

  1. I am not a huge fan of biscuits, but if I have to pick, I would go for ginger nuts or caramel shortbreads.
  2. BIOGRAPHY Syabira, 32, London, Cardiovascular Research Associate Malaysian-born Syabira is one of seven children.

What lies ahead for 2023? –

Hopefully no more international “theme” weeks, hopefully no more Hollywood handshakes, hopefully no more ridiculous time constraints, hopefully no more ridiculous technical challenges, hopefully no more Matt Lucas. In sum, it would be nice if in future, all the bakers have to overcome is the show they signed up for, rather than the self-perpetuating mythos it has built up around it.Oh, wait, that’s exactly what the 2021 round-up said.

‘The Great British Baking Show’ Crowns a New Winner for the 2022 Season

Warning: This article contains spoilers. just crowned a new champion! On Friday, the -distributed series dropped the season finale and named Syabira Yusoff — marking the first time a Malaysian-born contestant has ever won the show.

“I can’t believe it, honestly. It hasn’t sunk in yet. This is the biggest achievement in my life,” the 32-year-old said after her victory. “All the hard work. All the trial and error. It has all been worth it. I am very very proud.” A fairly new baker, Yusoff only began the hobby in 2017.

  • I’ve never been the top person in any kind of competition or any classes that I’ve attended,” she said ahead of her win.
  • So maybe baking is my hidden talent I never discovered until recently.” Mark Bourdillon/Love Productions Judges and were confident in Yusoff’s baking chops throughout the season.

Known for her use of bold and innovative flavors, she won star baker an impressive three times and got a coveted handshake from Hollywood during Halloween week. Throughout the season, she worked to merge British classics with traditional Malaysian flavors.

Syabira can be a bit of a risk taker with her flavors, and it’s worked. Some of the flavors she did, I never had in the tent before, and unlikely to ever have again,” Hollywood said after her win. “She is an incredible baker.” “She’s creative. She’s careful. She practices like anything. And she’s imaginative,” Leith said.

“I mean she just has the lot. She’s a very skillful baker.” Netflix The competition was stiff in the last episode. Yusoff battled it out against fellow bakers, Sandra Farmhouse, 30, and Abdul Rehman Sharif, 29. The finale opened with a signature challenge in which they had to make a “seasonal summer picnic” with vegetarian pies, mini cakes and a loaf of bread to make finger sandwiches.

Yusoff’s “pork-free” pies, heart-shaped finger sandwiches with broad bean and salsa verde, and elderflower-infused Swiss roles ultimately impressed the judges with Leith calling the pies “unusual and really delicious.” The technical challenge also proved daunting as the bakers were tasked with making a summer pudding bombe.

The 2022 champ was second behind Rehman Sharif. Ultimately, Yusoff’s orangutan-shaped edible sculpture — following the theme “Our Beautiful Planet” — for the showstopper challenge, was her final successful push to win the iconic trophy and champion title.

  • It tastes delicious,” Hollywood said of her hazelnut chocolate buttercream.
  • It actually works beautifully with the blackberry in the sponge.” While they may not have clinched the first-place victory, Farmhouse and Rehman Sharif shared their well wishes for Yusoff.
  • I’m so proud of Syabira.
  • She deserved it.

She’s the queen of flavors. She fully deserves this” Farmhouse said. “I’m so happy for her.” “I’m happy that Syabira got it as well because I could see in her how hard she has worked for this,” Rehman Sharif said. “I’m just so happy for her.” Netflix A cardiovascular research associate in London, Yusoff infused her own personal and professional passions within her bakes throughout the competition.

  • In the previous semi-final episode, her stunning double-helix Krokan made of cookie chromosomes wowed the judges.
  • I analyze data to understand the human genome, so my Krokan — it is celebrating DNA,” she said in the episode.
  • Her towering finished product managed not to topple over and proved to be one of many impressive bakes during her GBBO run — a period of time that Yusoff said has been truly transformative.

“I think I’m coming out as a new person after this competition. I became more confident, and I trust my instincts,” she said. “It’s been a while there’s no woman winner, so there you go, all girls, I’m here to get one for all of you. We can do anything we want as long as we have all of our heart, and work for it.” The 2022 season and previous seasons of The Great British Baking Show are now streaming on Netflix.

Who came 2nd in Bake Off 2022?

While it was a tough competition, judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith ultimately decided that it was Syabira who deserved the title of the ultimate Star Baker, leaving Nanny Sandro and electronics engineer Abdul as runner-ups.

Where is chigs now

Answered By: Wallace Rogers Date: created: Jan 04 2024

What does Chigs do now? – Despite his Bake-Off success, Chigs still works as a sales manager for Domestic and General, which he says was very supportive of his GBBO experience, especially in allowing him to take seven weeks’ leave soon after starting at the company to pursue his newly discovered passion.

He told The Mirror, that after appearing on the GBBO, he now takes a black carrier bag to Sainsbury’s and feels guilty “buying bread or a couple of cakes because people who recognise me look into my trolley and say, ‘Shouldn’t you be baking that?'”. Chigs now regularly updates his Instagram followers on what he is baking, with former winner Rahul Mandal commenting “delish”.

The sales manager has also kept in touch with his fellow finalists, especially winner Giuseppe Dell’Anno whom Chigs calls a close friend. Meanwhile, Chigs has met up with contestants from former GBBO series at the launch of Lottie Bedlow’s new book, Baking Imperfect.

Bake-Off fans will be pleased to know Chigs has not given up on his passion and still regularly bakes, with French patisserie a particular area of interest. “I want to explore and do more of that now. I’m looking for some courses so I can become better at it,” he told LeicestershireLive. As for pursuing it as a career, Chigs says: “I’d love to do baking as a career.

That’s the plan. I do love selling, but I love baking more!” READ NEXT:

Who are the 3 finalists in Bake Off?

The final of this year’s Great British Bake Off was met with criticism over the talent of finalists. Finalists Sandro, Syabira and Abdul battled it out to be crowned the winner of Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off 2022 in tonight’s show following 10 weeks of tough competition.

All three bakers have whipped up some impressive bakes this series. Sandro has often been praised by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith for his ambitious recipes, while Syabira has been regularly complimented on her flavours and Abdul has become known as the quiet one to watch. Read more: North Shields woman ‘heartbroken’ after wind ‘destroyed’ her £1,000 Christmas light display But some viewers felt the standard of bakes slipped this year, with some taking to social media to voice their disappointment.

On person wrote on Twitter: “Well that had to be the most underwhelming final I’ve seen. None of them would have won any other final. Very poor quality, very weak winner!” Another said: “Such a beautiful final, not the best bakes but it made us smile. Well done.” While a third wrote: “Seriously underwhelmed by this year’s finalists’ bakes.” In the end there could only be one winner and this year it was Syabira who lifted the sought after glass engraved cake stand.

Speaking at the end of the show Syabira said: “I can’t believe it. Honestly hasn’t sinked down. It’s unbelievable. This is the biggest achievement in my life. “All of the hard work, all of the trial and error, it’s all worth it. I’m very, very proud.” Tonight’s episode saw the three finalists take on some tricky challenges.

For their signature challenge contestants had to take on “the most challenging signature ever seen in the Bake Off final”, a summer picnic using seasonal ingredients from across the UK. The picnic had to consist of six mini cakes, six individual vegetarian pies and six finger sandwiches made from a classic white loaf.

Next up was the technical challenge which is judged blind by Prue and Paul. The final saw bakers attempt to create a summer pudding bomb. The contestants had to create the desert which consisted of an elderflower and berry jelly, a creamy meringue and raspberry filling in a raspberry soaked bread. But all bakers struggled with the challenge, particularly Sandro and Syabira whose summer pudding bomb resembled more of a mush on the plate.

Finally bakers pulled out all the stops in the showstopper challenge which required them to create a large edible sculpture based on the theme “our beautiful planet”. Crowning Syabira as the 2022 winner, judge Paul Hollywood said: “Syabira can be a bit of a risk taker with her flavours and it’s worked.

  1. Some of the flavours that she did I’ve never had in the tent before and unlikely to ever have again.
  2. She is an incredible baker.” Prue Leith added: “She’s creative, she’s careful, she practices like anything and she’s imaginative.
  3. She just has the lot.
  4. She’s a very skilful baker.” Viewers took to Twitter to praise this year’s winner after the show.

One person said: “The best person won, so happy for her!” Another added: “I knew it! Syabira Queen of flavours. Aww Congratulations.” A third wrote: “Syabira, congratulations very well deserved, the most consistent and daring baker throughout. Wish you lots of love, and may you go on to greater things.” Read next:

Who was the first person to leave GBBO 2022?

Bake Off spoilers follow. The Great British Bake Off is back with 12 new contestants marking the end of the summer and the return to cosy autumn nights in. The new series got off to a typically charming and bizarre start with a Star Wars skit from presenters Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas and judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, but sadly, we’ve already said goodbye to one contestant – Will, Channel 4 Related: Great British Bake Off 2022: Meet the new contestants Will, who struggled with his buttercream during the challenge, was told his cakes were “disappointing” by Prue. Meanwhile, Sandro impressed judges with his flavours and presentation, Abdul’s cactus cakes received praise from the judges, and Prue called Janusz’ boozy cherry cakes “perfect”. Mark Bourdillon // Channel 4 Related: GBBO host discusses doubts over “boring” show Cardiovascular researcher and gamer Syabira ranked first, receiving a “that’s fantastic” from Paul, while full-time nanny Sandro came in second place. Nuclear scientist James failed to impress the judges with his red velvet cake and ranked last.

  1. For the final showstopper challenge, bakers were required to recreate a miniature 3D replica of a home that they have lived in – out of cake, of course.
  2. The first Star Baker of the series went to Janusz, who said: “Winning Star Baker on the cake week means everything to me.” Finally, we said goodbye to Will after he failed to impress judges with an over-baked showstopper.

“Obviously I’m disappointed, but I’m proud to have made it,” admitted Will. The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it’s known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix. Bake Off: An Extra Slice, hosted by Tom Allen and Jo Brand, will be airing on Fridays at 8pm on Channel 4.

Why is Matt leaving Bake Off?

Matt Lucas has opened up about his decision to leave the Great British Bake Off, revealing that David Walliams played a role in his departure. The former Little Britain comic announced he was stepping down as co-host of the hit Channel 4 baking show in December, after three years at the helm alongside Noel Fielding,

At the time, Matt cited scheduling issues with his other projects, which he has now admitted is seeing him reunite with former comedy partner David. During an appearance on Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Thursday, Matt explained that he and former Britain’s Got Talent judge were writing together again and had quit their respective jobs to focus on the new project.

He told Zoe: “Me and David Walliams have started writing together again. We just thought it was time, so we quit our jobs and decided to do that. “I mean I still do Fantasy Football League, obviously. We just started last week.” David Walliams and Matt Lucas pictured in 2008 Neilson Barnard via Getty Images Revealing the concept of his and David’s new show had already been worked out, Matt continued: “It will be a show with us playing lots of characters. But we have to write the treatment for it and we have to go and pitch it and see if anyone wants to make it.

But if someone wants to make it, we’ll be thrilled to do it,” added Matt, whose Bake Off replacement is yet to be announced. Matt and David created and starred in Little Britain from 2003 to 2007, which also spawned a US spin-off and a national arena tour. They later worked together again on Come Fly With Me in 2010.

However, the pair have faced renewed criticism in recent years over characters they played in both series, particularly how they performed in blackface. Following Little Britain’s removal from the BBC iPlayer and Netflix in 2020, the duo shared a joint statement apologising for the use of blackface in their shows.

  • Have both spoken publicly in recent years of our regret that we played characters of other races,” they said.
  • Once again we want to make it clear that it was wrong and we are very sorry.” Following Matt’s exit from The Great British Bake Off in December, it was confirmed earlier this week that David had left his role as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent after 10 years.

His future on the ITV talent show looked uncertain since last year, when recordings of him making explicit and disparaging remarks about some auditionees on the set of the show were shared in the media. After the comments were made public, David issued a statement apologising to the people he had made “disrespectful comments about during breaks in filming”.

Is Crystelle Bake Off Indian?

– The chef and author has launched her new book, Flavour Kitchen which showcases recipes from her Goan heritage and encourages food enthusiasts to not be afraid of experimenting with offbeat flavours

Born in North London to Kenyan-born, Portuguese-Goan parents, Crystelle Pereira grew up watching her mum cook curries by the kitchen stove. She was the only one out of the three sisters who developed an interest in cooking and flavours always fascinated her.

That’s when Pereira’s family told her to apply for Netflix’s Great British Bake Off. And so she did. Crystelle appeared on GBBO in 2021 and became known on the show for showcasing recipes from her Goan heritage. Her innovative recipes and skills brought her to the finals.

Although she didn’t take the title of the winner that season, Crystelle won the hearts of so many people from the South Asian community–representation matters in the culinary world too! Who are the 3 finalists in Bake Off

Answered By: Carlos Perez Date: created: Oct 24 2024

The final of this year’s Great British Bake Off was met with criticism over the talent of finalists. Finalists Sandro, Syabira and Abdul battled it out to be crowned the winner of Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off 2022 in tonight’s show following 10 weeks of tough competition.

  1. All three bakers have whipped up some impressive bakes this series.
  2. Sandro has often been praised by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith for his ambitious recipes, while Syabira has been regularly complimented on her flavours and Abdul has become known as the quiet one to watch.

  1. Speaking at the end of the show Syabira said: “I can’t believe it.
  2. Honestly hasn’t sinked down.
  3. It’s unbelievable.
  4. This is the biggest achievement in my life.
  5. All of the hard work, all of the trial and error, it’s all worth it.

Some of the flavours that she did I’ve never had in the tent before and unlikely to ever have again. “She is an incredible baker.” Prue Leith added: “She’s creative, she’s careful, she practices like anything and she’s imaginative. She just has the lot.
