I’m a Celebrity, South Africa came to a climactic end this evening (Friday, May 12) as musician and radio presenter Myleene Klass was crowned the show’s first ‘Legend’ after winning the final Bushtucker challenge of the ITV1 20th anniversary special: an eating trial.

With Jordan Banjo, who appeared in the 16th series of I’m A Celeb, earning a well-deserved second place, the pair battled it out in front of their former campmates as they took on All You Can Stomach trial – although, as Ant announced it was “slightly different to the eating trials we’ve done before.” Before each round, the two finalists learned what dishes were coming up and they had to estimate how many items on the dish they could eat in five minutes.

Enduring nine rounds, both Myleene – who had never done an eating trial and first went on the show in 2006 – and Jordan took on dishes like Sow Teats, Century Eggs – fermented eggs – Impala Eyes, Pig Snouts, Chicken Mala (intestine), Parny Worms, Mice Tails (of which Myleene at 60) and Stinky, aka fermented, Tofu. The loser of this trial will be knocked out and takes third place overall.

The final two then go on to compete in an iconic eating trial. Taking their seats at the table, the finalists will be joined by their former campmates, who watch on and cheer. Ant and Dec explain that in this eating trial, they’ll be shown what they could be eating and they must both suggest the number of each item they think they can eat in five minutes.

The celeb that picks the highest number must then try to eat that many in the time given. If they succeed, they win a point. Fail and their opponent gets a point. If they both pick the same number, it’s a straight race. Liz was supporting during her stint on the Logie award-winning reality television series, and her win means a total of $100,000 will be donated to the charity. Working to assist women experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, and financial stress, the charity assists those in need through a number of yearly drives where they collect period products and other basic sanitary items to distribute.

I’m a Celebrity.Get Me Out of Here! returned for its nineteenth series on 17 November 2019 on ITV. This series featured Anthony McPartlin ‘s return as the show’s co-host, who was replaced by This Morning co-presenter Holly Willoughby in 2018, after deciding to take a year’s hiatus from television.

A constant change in this series was the end of Bushtucker Trials involving the eating of live bugs. Whilst the stars can still be covered in live bugs, all bugs eaten will already be dead. This change was welcomed by wildlife experts and activists, including wildlife presenter Chris Packham, On 8 December 2019, the series was won by Jacqueline Jossa, with Andy Whyment finishing as the runner-up.

Whyment would return to the series four years later to participate in I’m a Celebrity. South Africa alongside other former contestants to try and become the first I’m a Celebrity legend. Whyment became the joint fourth and fifth celebrity to be eliminated alongside series 17 winner Toff.
